Do not use Nintendo Switch near an aquarium

Following the recent issues, Nintendo has released a statement in the form of a list of the places you shouldn't be using the Joy-Cons wirelessly.

Behind a TV
Near an aquarium
Placed in or under a metal object
Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as
a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
Laptops, tablets, etc.
Wireless headsets
Wireless printers
Microwaves
Wireless speakers
Cordless phones
USB 3.0-compatible devices such as harddrives, thumb
drives, LAN adapters, etc.
..
That is a long a$$ list.

"A lot of Nintendo Switch owners are facing problems like Joy-Con controllers not responding or responding incorrectly when used wirelessly"

can they be used otherwise???

HAHA behing a TV lmao..
So tell me Nintendo, how about playing in the metro or train? in the middle of a shockwave of frequencies???

Cobra9512629d ago

That's a crazy list. I don't think I could play here except in a couple of corners in the house, if all of that caused me interference problems. My feeling is that it's a shotgun list. They're throwing out everything that could possibly interfere in the worst case. That was a mistake. It makes their system look bad, unable to cope in a modern world full of wireless devices.

ChronoJoe2629d ago

It's just a list of what can cause interference issues. I was playing mine last night infront of my PS4 while chatting to friends in a PS4 party. At the time I had a wireless PS4 controller, wireless headset, television, console, etc. within a few feet without experiencing any issues.

I imagine most people would be fine in these circumstances, but if you are experiencing issues then trying to move away from items on this list (or moving them away from you) is a potential resolution.

The real question is... what excuses will Eddie come up with this time

darthv722629d ago

during a teardown I noticed they have the wireless module inside the metal shielding as opposed to outside like other devices that use wireless controllers.

That right there will cause a limited reception to the signals back and forth. the chip is rather small and I'd bet that if you cut the shielding from just that section it would improve wireless signal strength.

But who is going to take the time and risk opening up their switch for such a simple fix....?

rainslacker2628d ago

Looks like one is safe playing on the toilet.

I'm sure they are just trying to be thorough in listing all possible sources of interference, The aquarium one is puzzling, sure water is good at blocking certain RF frequencies, but it's not likely to actually cause problems unless you've placed it between you and the switch.

ChronoJoe2629d ago

Indeed it's a bit odd, it's like listing 'walls'.

Goldby2629d ago

what has me confused to all f*s is within 3 to 4 feet of another wireless device such as... cordless phones

i hope it doesnt include cellphones

Ron_Danger2629d ago

If it does, how would you voice chat?

rainslacker2628d ago

Cell phones run on a different band, whereas most of the cordless devices for the home run on similar bands. That's why they cause interference with one another.

Still, Nintendo should have maybe shielded their controller chips better if this is an issue. Probably will make it into a hardware revision.

Most ridiculous launch issues I have ever heard of.

Slowbro2628d ago

so the mobility of the console is very restricted ex. on a train, planes, aand other places you would use the joy cons...alright then this is a very rushed console.

UnHoly_One2628d ago

I have a stupid question.

I haven't been paying much attention to this thing, but what kind of batteries does it use? I assume the tablet has a built in battery, but what about the little controllers?

When they are connected to the tablet, are they using their own power, or drawing from the tablet?

I only ask because it seems like too many different things to keep charged, and if they can fail independently, that would suck.

Gonna scuba dive with it. Guarantee it works underwater lol

Goldby2629d ago

at least if you get the blue screen of death you wont notice it for a few moments

NotoriousWhiz2629d ago

So if you can't use the switch near phones, how are you supposed to voice chat? Lol. Someone didn't quite think things through.

Mr Marvel2629d ago

I only use the Pro controller, so I haven't had any issue with controller connectivity.

Joy-cons are just too uncomfortable for me to bother with them. They're ok attached to the system in handheld mode, but that Joy-con Grip is garbage. Pro controller is a MUST BUY!

NotoriousWhiz2629d ago

I prefer to use the joycons in a detached state. Just let my arms hang where they will with a joy con in each hand.

Sirk7x2628d ago

It's so wonderfully lazy.

Sirk7x2628d ago

I don't even use the grip. Lounging back and having one in each hand is surprisingly comfortable.

Fire Emblem: The Three Houses Review - Analog Stick Gaming

"When Three Houses was announced for the Nintendo Switch, I was more hyped for this than almost any game currently available on the platform. While its story doesn’t quite live up to the previous entries I’ve enjoyed, mostly due to some poorly handled reveals and its failure to offer us up a compelling villain, Three Houses succeeds greatly due to its vast replayability with new game plus, and yet another memorable cast to add to the franchise.
