Nintendo Switch Is Sold Out, Here's Why It Doesn't Matter

Nintendo Switch being sold out doesn't exactly indicate that the console is a hot product.

It doeant matter because Nintendo like to only initially send out ahort supplies of hardware to create buzz when it sells out. Wii, wii u, amiibos and other Nintendo products. It doesn't matter though because there will be a lot of switch on store shelves soon because its just not a good product for core gamers

freshslicepizza2631d ago

They are shipping 2 million at first and will scale production based on demand after that.

jebabcock2630d ago (Edited 2630d ago )

Moldy, What I read is that 2 million would be available within the first month or 2 after release. Thats a little different from 2 million being available on release day.

freshslicepizza2630d ago

https://gamerant.com/ninten...

"In the company’s latest financial briefing, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima revealed an estimate of 2 million Nintendo Switch units being shipped (meaning they’ll be in the hands of retailers, not gamers) by the end of March, 2017."

MVGeneral2630d ago

2 million shipped by the end of March. So the release may have been 500,000 accounting for a weekly restock to make 2 million in 4 weeks.

Notellin2630d ago

The switch was by far the most abundant console launch I've seen. My best buy had 60 after pre-orders. I went to the same best buy for PS3, 360, and PS4 and there were way less launch units.

This didn't seem like a typical launch especially for Nintendo. They seemed to have quite a few and they were still available around 11am the next day.

Army_of_Darkness2630d ago (Edited 2630d ago )

It doesn't matter cause the only good game on there is apparently Zelda and that is also available on the wiiU in which from my understanding is that the only difference between the two versions is resolution. Switch 900p, wiiU 720p... Barely an upgrade.. More like a lazy remaster lol!
God of war 3 was remastered for the ps4 running at 1080p @ a solid 60fps, yet some people called it a lazy remaster?! Lol! But yet again, Nintendo gets a free pass.

I do wish nintendo luck. Im still on the fence about purchasing it, but my deciding factor will be what games are planned for the future and the fate of the 3ds.

Firebird3602630d ago

I was on the fence to, walked into best buy and they had a few so I felt that itch and bought it. I honestly couldn't be happier, playing botw on the couch while my wife watches Netflix is awesome. I'm really blown away by the quality, it's a very nice piece of hardware.

CorndogBurglar2630d ago

I'm waiting. 3DS is apparently done (which really sucks). But it all depends on what games come out. Once a new Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and hopefully Monster Hunter release for it I will buy it. But I NEED those 3 games. If there is no new, updated Monster Hunter then it will be a big factor in my decision.

But I more than likely won't get one until those are actually released. They are the 3 big titles I always buy for my 3DS. Hopefully we can get a proper Metroid too.

indysurfn2630d ago

it's twice as much as even PS4 sold on day one! So HELLO. People need to minimize how well the system is doing even though several countries have said it is the fastest selling ever!

XanderZane2630d ago

I'm sure it matters to hardcore gamers who are still looking for one, but it really doesn't matter to me. I can wait, just like I waited over 2 years to get a Wii U.

CaptainObvious8782630d ago

Of course it's going to sell out when Nin create artificial demand by releasing only 2 million in the first month. I'd really like to know how much were available on launch day.

finbars752630d ago

I agree 100%. Most stores here only got maybe 25 switches or less so really selling out is irrelevant. Low numbers . I remember when PS4 and Xboxones were launching they had at least 75-100 of these consoles per store making it actually count.

CorndogBurglar2630d ago

Sony and Microsoft do the same thing. Why do you think they sell out on launch day? Its because they don's ship enough product.

To be fair, Xbox and Playstation are in higher demand so when they sell out you know they will keep selling when re-stocked. So your point is still valid. But again, no company wants to have a surplus of units, thats why there are never enough to go around at launch.

gedden72630d ago

Well actually. Its the same with MS and Sony. Its not what any gaming corp likes to do, but what they are capable of bro. No company; Sony, MS, Nintendo can produce enough systems to not sell out during lunch. You have to look at the next shipments and of course after that. As for a system not geared toward core gamers... Um no. Any system that is dedicated to GAMING is for core gamers. Just because you may not like doesn't mean its not for gamers. I'm a hard core gamer. I have almost all the systems and thinking about getting PC a gaming (best tech and graphics money can buy) and I'm VERY much into the Switch. That makes me not a core gamer? How many systems do you have, 1?????

All new consoles sell out all the time at launch which is why you always pre order right away preferebly like at amazon where you dont get charged til release. You can always just cancel if you decide not to get the console....I however failed to this and will do so for now on.

Seraphim2630d ago

that's what i did. And i finally cancelled my pre-order Tues night. For whatever reason I couldn't find Zelda on amazon until days after the pre-orders went up and Zelda SE along with the Master were already sold out. So if I can get Zelda SE I will likely buy a Switch asap otherwise I'll just wait until I actually have nothing else to play or until there are more games than Zelda to make the Switch worth owning, to me. With Nioh, Horizon, Neir, Ghost Recon, a few games in backlog and more coming I figured why bother. SE Zelda is the most important thing

Funny thing is there were 3 people at Walmart at midnight who all had the SE but not a Switch. There were 4 Switch consoles there and 3 of the 4 went to pre-orders. There were also only like 3 copies of Zelda SE. Which I figured, just sucks they couldn't tell me what they had so I could have left instead of wasting just over an hour in line waiting for them to ring up 5 customers.

nitus102631d ago

Why is this news the shortage of the Nintendo Switch was a forgone conclusion?

Unfortunately now the only people who are going to make money are the scalpers. https://pvplive.net/c/ninte... hopefully people don't pay for the absurd prices but some will.

davand1142630d ago

If you knew anything at all, you would know that nintendo shipped 2 million plus consoles for the launch. They even had a lot of new stock for walk-ins at launch. There's going to be scalpers for the launch of any damn thing just ignore them and don't buy anything from them. Let them take that L and lose their money.

jebabcock2630d ago (Edited 2630d ago )

Davand114, is that alot?

Plus there arent going to be 2 million available on launch. If you read Reggie' statement he did a very subtle backpedal. Here are his words:

"What we’ve said publicly is that there will be 2 million units that will be shipped worldwide for the launch, essentially through month one."

So there will be 2 million consoles available for the launch(meaning available within 1 month of the release day).

How many consoles do you think either the PS4 or X1 sold during their first whole Month? The X1 cleared 2 million in a couple weeks the PS4 cleared 2 million in a week. But Nintendo is hugely in demand not even having 2 million consoles to sell for a whole month...

If they had said 3 million or 4 during the first month, that would have been impressive and would have made sense. It also likely would have resulted in consoles being on shelves and available and no big articles about how hard it is to get one...

inmusicutrust2630d ago

My local target has been showing it has some available, so it's not even that hard to get apparently.

davand1142630d ago

For a launch 2 million is a lot of consoles. Nintendo also put out extra consoles. The best buy that I went to had about 50 extra for walk-in buyers and they said that they would have more consoles on sunday.

nitus102630d ago

Oh wow, two million "worldwide" and you honestly think that will satisfy initial demand?

Personally, I would never pay a "scalped" price for anything but there are many people who would.

Vasto2631d ago

This system will fall flat in the next few months.

S2Killinit2630d ago

I dont think so. I think it will do well. Maybe not amazing but it will do fine. I think a lot of people with time, will want this as a secondary console.

EddieNX 2630d ago

Yep, all the 3ds gamers will migrate to this.

_-EDMIX-_2630d ago

@eddie- I'm not migrating over to this and I own it 3DS I'm simply waiting until they confirm that this is the only device they're working on because if that 3DS successor is true then I'm not going to waste money on the Wii U when I could have the 3DS.

I'm going to go for the platform that gets the majority of their support

If they made crystal clear that they have no plans to work on any other device other than this then I have no problem picking it up this fall but if they're not ready to confirm that I'm not ready to spend money on something that's just not going to get the same support in the future.

davand1142630d ago

@edmix
This seems to be the only console that their making in the near future there was no guarantee that another handheld would be made. A lot of the devs from the 3ds are moving the next iteration to the switch so a lot of the 3ds owners will follow and get the switch, which they can use as a powerful handheld only if they want.

Utalkin2me2630d ago

@davand114

Talking about assumptions...lol.

EddieNX 2630d ago

I always buy Nintendo hardware and there's always enough exlusves for me to justify it! I've put hundreds of hours into both Wiiu and 3ds and that won't change with switch. I they would of announced a successor by noew, and I believe that's what Tue switch is...

NapalmSanctuary2630d ago

I got one as a secondary. Zelda and Fast RMX are great. First console I ever bought on launch day. Only other console I wanted at launch was PS2.

_-EDMIX-_2630d ago

@Dav= well you and Eddie NX have this idea that it won't happen but

http://www.nintendolife.com...

Nintendo hasn't actually made clear if this is the ONLY device they are working on or even planning to support.

http://www.digitaltrends.co...

I'm sorry but this is a problem. Like....a huge problem.

The called this their ummmm "home console" right? Soooooo doesn't that mean they might be working on something else?

Many of you have legit been fighting this dumb crap on "not a handheld" yet some of you are LITERALLY saying this is the 3DS replacement, but hey....its not a "handheld".

Literally this is what I've heard from this fanbase, not you Dave or Eddie, just speaking in general here.

If we go by what Nintendo is saying, they believe Switch is their "home console"

FOR A FACT they stated "we will be able to continue bringing portable gaming systems out, so yes, we are thinking of different ways to continue the portable gaming business"

http://www.polygon.com/2016...

So...lets get this clear.

Nintendo is very much working on another portable device.....

Nintendo for a fact is calling Switch a um "home console"

Soooo why should consumers not be worried that we might be getting the Wii U of 3DS vs Wii U?

They are not saying no.

They are not saying Switch is are only handheld or portable for the future.....they are literally saying its a "home console" and then saying they are working on a portable.

What you and Eddie have stated has zero basis, no links, really nothing other then assumption.

You know what we need from Nintendo? A statement like this.

http://www.develop-online.n...

Not this.

http://www.polygon.com/2017...

Not saying kill it, be we still need to know that Switch is actually getting their attention.

Fire Emblem: The Three Houses Review - Analog Stick Gaming

"When Three Houses was announced for the Nintendo Switch, I was more hyped for this than almost any game currently available on the platform. While its story doesn’t quite live up to the previous entries I’ve enjoyed, mostly due to some poorly handled reveals and its failure to offer us up a compelling villain, Three Houses succeeds greatly due to its vast replayability with new game plus, and yet another memorable cast to add to the franchise.
