"Should you make the Switch? That answer should largely depend on whether you think the system’s library of games will satisfy your needs"... apart from zelda i don't see any other game(yet) worthy of the switch

UltraNova2637d ago

It seems the Switch is liked by a lot of reviewers. One thing that they all seem to agree on is the lack of games right now.

If Nintendo delivers on games in 2017 and remains strong going forward I can see the Switch surpassing xbox one's lifetime sales by the end of 2018, Q1 2019 tops.

bouzebbal2637d ago

so we are having a wii u and vita all over again. the machine in itself is decent but when you lack games to back it up then the device is completly useless.
Zelda is on Wii u, let's not forget that.
The problem for me is of course lack of games, but mostly no word about the online plans. The overpriced peripherals killed it for me. I only buy Nintendo machines to play Zelda, and i kept the wii u for that.

zeal0us2637d ago (Edited 2637d ago )

That's way too optimistic. I wish Nintendo the best with their system because competition is great for the industry. However I don't see this system surpassing the XB1 in two years let alone four years. Nintendo first concern should be to deliver a strong 2017 so to lure more developers to their system. They don't need another WiiU situation where developers say they will support the system but abandon ship when the system isn't selling. Overall Nintendo got their work cut for them. They will need third party support now more than every unless they want to repeat history.

People that complain about games will hear: "X1 and PS4 were light on games too, and no one complained!"
The difference with this is, those consoles had major 3rd party launch titles as well. So even if there was nothing spectacular in the 1st party department, there were still major releases to play. That's not really the case as much with the Switch. I guess we'll see if Zelda is enough to carry the console for a while.

darthv722637d ago

For that to happen Ultra, people would need to stop buying not just the xb1 but also the ps4 in order for switch sales to excel at the rate you are thinking.

Probably not going to happen but it does have the potential to surpass the wiiu in that time frame.

jaymacx2637d ago

@bouzebbal I wouldn't say we are having a wii u/ vita all over again. I think you are overreacting. If you just like zelda mainly then, Nintendo console isn't really a good purchase for you.

One key thing everyone crying about lack of games are missing, is that its March . We are getting games each month .. then we have E3 shortly after. Then we have the late summer and fall holiday season.

IamTylerDurden12637d ago

Bouzebbal

Vita had more exclusives and more quality games at launch. Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, Escape Plan, Super Stardust Delta, Virtua Tennis 4, BlazBlue, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Hot Shots Golf, Hustle Kings, Fifa, F1, Rayman Origins, Modnation, MLB The Show, Unit 13, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and more.

conanlifts2637d ago

Xbox one is at 25 million currently. By next year at least 30 million. So 12 months (Q1 2018) you expect it to sell more than this. It will need to exceed the sales numbers of ps4 in its first 2 years ( the same time period) to match xbox ones sales by Q1 2019. But to match it in 12 months it would have to be by far the fastest selling game system in history. While i think switch will do well i am not sure it would move anywhere near this number. By years end it might push 8 million, end of year 2 maybe 15-20 million if it performed extremely well. But 30 million...highly unlikely.

XanderZane2637d ago

Maybe 10-12 million in 2 years if they are lucky, but there's no way they will sell over 27 million in 2 years. I can see them outselling the Wii U of course, but now much else.

slavish02637d ago

Lol here we go again. I remember Nintendo fans saying the same thing about the wii u.

King_Lothric2636d ago

The Wii U was liked by a lot of reviewers too and look at how that ended up.

UltraNova2636d ago

@ people who commented regarding Switch's sales.

As much as I disslike Nintendo's direction for the past 15 years, I cant turn a blind eye to their handheld domination. If Nintendo handheld fans see the Switch as the next DS (I do and and so is my 12 year old nephew and all his friends), provided big N caters to that fanbase (via portable deticated games) then yes I stick by my estimates > 30 million by March 2019.

CrimsonWing692637d ago

See I agree,

You can say that about any device that plays games. So by this logic I guess since the library will not satisfy my needs there's no point to "make the Switch".

gedden72637d ago

Sorry Fast Racing RMX looks DOPE AF (Launch game) Arms looks fun AF! Splatoon 2 looks just as fun or more so than the 1st games adding REAL multiplayer gaming with friends with Nintendo new network features it will be a much better experience. All those Indie games looks GREAT and Amazing and first coming the Switch, just to name a few Pocket Fighter, War Groove, Mr Shifty, Steamworld Dig 2 and MANY more great looking indie games! and really this is just sampling a great games and software coming to the Switch in its 1st year. More are coming. LOT MORE.

kevnb2637d ago (Edited 2637d ago )

that upcoming mario game looks fantastic as well, but lets see. For now they should probably port over all the best wii u games, the wii u has a small enough install base that this would make sense. Later on we have pokemon, dragon quest xi, fire emblem, shin megami tensei, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I think they have a pretty good start. Lets not forget that the 3ds has been an undeniable success, lets see if the switch can follow up on the 3ds while satisfying the home console market as well.

Damd_Bowsr2637d ago

Have you seen all the games for 2017 alone? The Switch will be comparable to PS4 by mid 2018 and unless XBox does something special at E3, I see the Switch beating it out in worldwide sales in 18 months. XBox is busy focusing on a new console when they haven't done anything with the X1 or XBox S.

MoveTheGlow2637d ago (Edited 2637d ago )

Hm. I mean, it totally depends on your tastes, too. A lot of people loved the Vita for being a great avenue for indie games on the go, and it seems like the Switch could be another one of those along with it being a good first-party outlet for Nintendo (which is the key differentiator from the Vita, which didn't have much in terms of meaningful first-party support).

Like, personally I'm anticipating Blaster Master Zero and Puyo Puyo Tetris on the Switch. Both of those will be on other platforms, I'm sure (PPT was already out in Japan for a while), but the Switch seems like a wonderful device to play those on. But hey, I'm a child of the NES and SNES era of games, so of course I'd love a NES reboot and a vertical-drop Japanese puzzler featuring a dog that is also a doctor. I'm hoping Crosscode will make it over once it's complete, too. That game would be perfect on the Switch.

But if you're into big console games other than Zelda and Mario, I get it. You're not getting a Horizon or a Gran Turismo on here any time soon. I just think it's a really neat device as a portable - the TV thing's just an add-on for me.

KillZallthebeast2637d ago

a real pokemon game like on the handhelds would probably make me get one rather quickly

Mulando2637d ago

Problem is, they can't really rate the Switch right now. Only zelda (which seems to be pretty good) and some smaller games. Also there is now only service right now ... many things are just not there where it should be.
It is really disappointing that Nintendo hasn't their online service in place for the launch. It really almost seems like a "paper-launch" to me ... yes we got the hardware but what about other things. In my case .. I don't like Zelda ... waiting for 2D Mario games and a new Mario Kart (not the old one)

ic3fir32637d ago

zelda and mario on the same year? 2 goty games on the same year same console? is instant buy.
ps4 and xbox 3 years to get good games, switch 2 very very good games the first year

XanderZane2637d ago

Agreed. Which is why I'm going to wait a year and see what other games comes to the system. If a lot more must have games make it to the system and some retailers put it on sale for like $250 or maybe bundle Zelda with it, I'll most likely get one.

RomanPSX2636d ago

Not for me. Im happy with my ps4 pro and the one s. Waiting for scorpio.

Kubark2636d ago

The only other game that interests me is Fast RMX. In Australia (where I live) the damn thing cost $469! Virtually no games to excite anyone and overpriced to boot. I think anyone who would invest in this thing is mad at this point in time.

Orionsangel2636d ago (Edited 2636d ago )

It feels like a repeat of the Wii U. We're gonna get those big Nintendo franchises once in a while but in between dry periods of nothing to play but mediocre third party games you can mostly play on Steam.

Seraphim2636d ago

to each their own but there are several games announced worth purchasing but that is about it. However, aside from Zelda [now] and Mario later this year there isn't much in the foreseeable future. Dragon Quest, Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem ('17?), untitled SMT and Untitled Namco Bandai project are all TBA. And if you don't like RPGs that pretty much leaves Zelda and Mario as the only offerings for a lot of gamers.

I actually cancelled my pre-order last night and decided to hold off. Of course part of that was not being able to secure Zelda SE and perhaps more importantly the fact I'm playing Nioh, have Horizon, Neir coming next week along with Ghost Recon, have 3 games in backlog and Mass Effect, Persona 5 and other games coming the next couple months. If it were a quieter year I would have never thought twice about buying a Switch right now and playing Zelda now.

Even though I still have my Gamecube I'd like to see Nintendo bring Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD to Switch. Because at the end of the day most of us buy Nintendo as a second, maybe even third console and when it comes to Zelda or Mario, if we're extremely lucky we'll see 2 during a consoles life but more likely than not just see each of them once. Even then, Zelda especially is one that seems to be made on last gen but also available for next gen. This happened with the GC/Wii and now again with the WiiU/Switch. Hopefully Nintendo has more than a 5 year life expected for the Switch and going forward they can support their consoles longer.

EddieNX 2637d ago

Yo cant really put a numerical score on a console, its the games that make the console not the other way round.
Switch is the only one that dares to be unique.

XStation4pio_Pro2637d ago (Edited 2637d ago )

Yes you can. It's a piece of hardware. That's like saying you can't score a TV unless you consider how good the shows you watch on it are.

You can score the hardware on its performance/specs, build quality, value, software support, usability, compatibility and also the games that will/won't be available.

kevnb2637d ago

huh? you can watch the same shows on any tv.

MonsterChef2637d ago

While you can watch the same shows in different TVs, the experience might not be the same. Sports, is a thing that is tangibly different on cheaper TV sets, and that's when the specs of a particular TV really shine.

davand1142637d ago

You really can't. When you review a console at launch it has to be a review of it's potential, which is hard to review. If consoles were considered to be the final sum of their parts then all console at least in the last 3 gens would receive terrible scores.

XbladeTeddy2637d ago

I had a kid at my school who was unique. He got bullied pretty bad.

generic-user-name2636d ago

The only one that dares to be unique? Please, it's a glorified tablet with 2 Wii motes attached.

Though I agree with the rest if your comment. Which kinda damns the Switch for me as I'm expecting super weak 3rd party support.

cyclindk2636d ago

Although technically not specifically video game "consoles," the BILLIONS of mobile devices in existence currently that can play games and stream to television are pretty close.

- lack of dedicated easy docking system in most cases
- most don't have "full-fledged" AAA titles

Nintendo will have to achieve a balance of content and uniqueness if they want to succeed with this. The price point was ALMOST perfect, but they ended up on the higher-end, which I think may hurt them slightly. 249.95 and they would fly off shelves, 199.95 and every man, woman and child on the face of gaming earth would have one in their overly expansive pant pockets.

Looking forward to Zelda but I don't think one game can carry a system launch. It will be interesting to see if Zelda can pull me away from Nioh and Horizon.

DaDrunkenJester2637d ago

Zelda is the wife and I's favorite franchise. I'm almost done with Nioh and then hoping right into Zelda, we will play that together and when I have some alone time I'll be playing Horizon :)

ninsigma2637d ago

Zelda and horizon. Not a bad March for you at all :)

DaDrunkenJester2637d ago

@ninsigma

Seriously an amazing start to 2017. Got freaking RE7 in VR which was amazballs, Nioh which is amazing and now Horizon and Zelda in one week? Then a few weeks later we are getting Nier and ME:A!? Good lord I need more time haha

ninsigma2637d ago

Haha nice! First game I bought this year was psychonauts the rhombus of ruin on vr which was great! Just got horizon today and it is fantastic so far! I'm definitely gonna pick up re 7 at some point as well as nioh and KH 2.9 that I missed so far and then Nier and crash bandicoot to come later! Fantastic year for games that will have gamers of all sorts very happy! I'll likely pick up the switch later in the year, maybe around sales time, which means zelda and mario odyssey too. I could play zelda on the wii u but if I'm gonna get the switch anyway, I'd rather wait and play the better version!

cyclindk2636d ago (Edited 2636d ago )

You make it sound like you are cheating on your wife with Horizon :)

You watch out for that red-head, she's a feisty one!

Uken122637d ago

I agree with you but in some cases one game can carry a system launch. Halo 1 and Mario64 are the only real examples. Technically you could sadly count Wii Sports lol. And Smash Bros on GameCube was a pretty big deal for it's time even though it launch 2-3 weeks later than the GC.

You should probably finish Nioh and Horizon first lol. You don't want 3 time consuming games all at once. 2017 is turning out to be the best gaming year in a long time! (2011 when Dark Souls and Skyrim were released, was a year to remember)

BLKxSEPTEMBER2637d ago

Yes you are absolutely correct when you say Halo carried OG Xbox and Mario 64 carried N64 launch. I did have DOA3 to go along with my Xbox at launch at least lol. Yes I will most likely finish Nioh and Horizon before moving on to Zelda. Hell I still need to finish Yakuza Zero and RE7. So many great games in such little time. Honestly I'm glad MS doesn't have many games to offer me right now because I just can't handle it lol. And I'm still undecided on Ghost Reacon WL.

XStation4pio_Pro2637d ago (Edited 2637d ago )

I bet Zelda is gonna be great, but honestly I could care less about almost every other title being released. As a mobile platform I'm sure switch will be the best, but as a console, it's just not anything I am interested in

This is GameSPOT, not GameSTOP.

XStation4pio_Pro2637d ago

Yup. Initially misread. My bad.

CrimsonWing692637d ago

I don't think Game[spot] (owned by CBS Interactive a subsidiary of CBS Corporation) is in any way selling the Switch...

... Game[stop] "Power to the Players" probably will though.

EddieNX 2637d ago

There's tons of great stuff lined up I don't dont envy your taste

davand1142637d ago

It's not a mobile platform. It's a console hybrid that can be used as a portable console. Cell phones are mobiles.

CaptainObvious8782637d ago

You COULDN'T care less.

If you could care less that means you have at least some level of care.

Fire Emblem: The Three Houses Review - Analog Stick Gaming

"When Three Houses was announced for the Nintendo Switch, I was more hyped for this than almost any game currently available on the platform. While its story doesn’t quite live up to the previous entries I’ve enjoyed, mostly due to some poorly handled reveals and its failure to offer us up a compelling villain, Three Houses succeeds greatly due to its vast replayability with new game plus, and yet another memorable cast to add to the franchise.
