Prior to the release of Nioh, many who followed the game were content with calling it a Dark Souls rip-off. While some agreed the classification was a bit harsh, few argued that it wasn’t somewhat appropriate.
Team Ninja: "The Nioh franchise has sold over 6 million copies worldwide now!"
At 6 million NiOh is on the cusp of nearly outselling Ninja Gaiden’s 6.8 million with just only 2 titles under its belt
This could mean Team Ninja may see no reason to return to producing new NG games
they deserve this, Nioh is a amazing game. Hopefully they will expand and make a more ambitious game and have even more sales.
With PlayStation Now’s May lineup, you can try to survive unrelenting yokai in feudal Japan, rub shoulders with manga icons, and battle your way across an entire city. Starting tomorrow, May 4, Nioh, Jump Force and Streets of Rage 4 will be available to play on your PS5 or PS4 console.
Ohh I always wanted to try Jump Force. Can get back on my fantasy of being Goku :)
Nioh was given out on PS Plus around a year ago (most people who have PS Now also have PS Plus) and Jump Force is not particularly good. There's a big gap in quality between PS Plus and PS Now.
Total worldwide shipments and digital sales for Nioh 2 have surpassed two million units, and total shipments for the Nioh series have surpassed five million units, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja announced.
I'm so happy to hear that because that means they will continue developing amazing games like that.
Nioh is such a great game. I love the series.
"Soulslike" will suffice...
"That sounds like a simple task, but it’s really not. Technically, Nioh and Dark Souls are defined as Action RPGs. That sounds like a pretty good classification until you realize that label is also applied to titles like Diablo III, Borderlands and Fallout 3. "
Except Diablo 3 is a isometric RPG, Borderlands is a FPS and Fallout 3 is a Sandbox surivival game....
Dark Souls didn't invent action RPGs, nor did they invent difficult games.
Am I the only one who thinks Nioh is actually more similar with Onimusha than it is with dark souls? It feels like an Onimusha game, with ramped up difficulty
This article doesn't affect how I think about either of the games. Nioh is Nioh, Dark Souls is Dark Souls. Both are fun. Guess I don't see any real issue, who cares if people compare the two games? Team Ninja admitted they were making the game in Souls like fashion, so there's nothing there unless you're trying to make something out of nothing. Oh wait, that's what articles do now for clicks... right..
