Has The Lack of Cuphead News Killed The Hype?

Will Cuphead actually release in mid-2017, or should we expect another delay for the highly-anticipated indie game?

It still won't stop posts on N4G telling us how stupid Sony are for announcing games too early though. Because Microsoft never do that. They especially don't announce a game at the same E3 as Horizon Zero Dawn and then cancel it a month before it SHOULD have really been releasing.

Better question is who cares? Of course lack of news it's going to hurt hype of a game but at the end of the day what does this matter to the end user? Who cares about consumers purchasing based on the novelty of something.

Somebody buying this based on curiosity or excitement is not really something I believe any company should be banking on if you make a quality game the consumers will come and you will continue to sell well long term.

Hype in my opinion is absolutely irrelevant if the game is solid.

With the way xboners always mention cuphead in most articles as a game they are rly lookin forward to, I don't think the hype is dead

It is quite a long time to wait for a old Disney style animation platformer. It's going on 3 years of waiting now? It looks neat but I don't know if this will be something revolutionary. It was announced waaaaaaaaay too early.

@prince, rayman legends was a ubisoft game with probably hundreds of staff working on it. Cuphead is by MDHR studio consisting of 2 brothers working on the unity engine, hence the delays.

I think there was. It was one of those games you really couldn't help but like, even if you weren't into Xbox.

It has a ton of charm, and a sense of humor which is often lacking in many games.

Well, when the original announcement was back at E3 2014, saying coming 2015, it's understandable that people are somewhat frustrated that we're already almost 2 months into 2017, and we don't even so much as have a release window.

My biggest fear for this game is them overpricing it. It would make sense so they could recoup the dev cost for the extended period of time this indie title has taken. 14.99- 19.99 is where I'm living for this title. They take that 24.99 and up route and I'll wait for a sale.
It's the whole reason FF 15 went multiplatform. Things start getting so damn expensive. I think that's why 15's last few chapters were like machine gun fire. It was supposed to be a lot more fleshed out like the other chapters are, but after going multiplat the only way to have a chance at making some of that back was to get it tf out the door. Wrap the game up and get it outta here. If 15s cost started getting crazy for a full AAA title, Cuphead has got to be racking up quite the bill.

Interesting points, but it may well be that it's the smaller team creating this that's both contributing towards its long development time and why costs aren't spiralling like your FF15 example.

Does look awesome though, I just hope they get the freedom to make the game how they want to and aren't rushed on it.

Must admit it looks good. I'd def get this if I had xbone. Not too keen on the artstyle but the gameplay looks cool. Its supposedly rock hard though.

I would play it just for the art style. I like the creativity and I like platforming. I don't have a Xbox so I'm out of luck but hopefully it's good. I would like to see creativity like this in future games.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but for me it has. It's been almost 3 years since the game was first unveiled at E3 2014. I understand game development isn't a short process, but this is a fairly simple looking indie title; what have they been doing all this time? MS keeps hyping the game up; are they just not helping the developers out? You can't keep showing off a game like that for 3 years straight and not expect people to eventually say screw it and go play something else and basically forget.

That being said, I really hope they've been working hard to beef the game up into something huge.

Very strange that Microsoft hyped a XBL/XB Arcade type game like Cuphead 2-3 years before release. It looked great, but it had too long a lead time if it were a AAA release, and for an XBA game it's just silly. That's one area where Microsoft has really, really, dropped the ball with XB1. XB360 had an amazing XBA library through it's whole existence. You could always go on XBA and find a fun and original indie game for $10-$20. It was the one area where they were miles ahead of Sony. But instead of leveraging that big advantage, they seriously slacked on XB1 and the Marketplace is 99% just digital versions of normal full price boxed games. The connection with smaller devs seems to be all but gone, and it's rare to find a great budget indie there now. Worse yet, a lot of the great 360 XBA games aren't even buyable or playable on XB1, which should have been a no-brainer. Marble Blast Ultra anyone? There is a long, long, list of great ones. Whoever at MSFT is responsible for dropping the ball with 360 XBA to XB1 when it comes to budget indies failed badly imo. XB1 should have 20+ great budget indies, and ones that are out by now 3 1/2 years after the release of XB1.

My biggest problem is I keep forgetting it exists until I think about what games I want to play on the X1....and right now it's about the only one I've been waiting for.

I'm sure once it gets closer to release we'll hear and see more, and it can probably generate hype again.

As far as Microsoft's announcements go, Cuphead actually marks the LAST of the games I hold any interest in on Xbox One. I bought one with a few games in mind: Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Scalebound, Cuphead, and the Phantom Dust remake, along with whatever comes along that catches my eye such as Forza Horizon.

I enjoyed Sunset Overdrive, but I really ended up not really liking Quantum Break. Beyond that, Phantom Dust's remake bit the dust and Scalebound, the game I anticipated the MOST, got cancelled. Now, it literally falls to Cuphead.

I won't sell my Xbox or anything--I find that a little extreme. I feel confident about Cuphead, but yeah, I cannot say I find the Xbox One's offerings particularly appeal, especially with what developers will release on PS4 this year.

Yeah, Cuphead is the last for me to. One of those games I actually brought the system for.

QB was the primary game I wanted, was disappointed. Good, but far from great game.
SSoD I really wanted to like, and game play was good, but the presentation was annoying
Scalebound I was on the fence about, but I was still hoping to play it, so that was disappointing when it was canceled.
Wanted to play through the Halo campaigns, but I just can't seem to get into it for some reason whenever I try. i remember liking Halo 1 back in the day, but now it just seems off for some reason. That's more me though.
Gears of war, while a technical masterpiece for it's original release, really doesn't hold the same impressions I originally had. Fun, but I'm not a big fan of the whole space marine motif. 2&3 I'll get around to one day, and maybe will play the new one soon.

Overall though, I don't really see why people are so excited for Xbox this gen. I understand console fanatacism, but the games overall are really kind of lackluster in terms of how much hype you'd expect to see from good games. It's like they're just excited because it's Xbox than because of any actual quantative analysis on if MS is actually delivering a constant stream of quality games.

I wanted to get on board the Xbox train this gen after skipping their first two gens, but boy, did I pick a wrong time to dive in. I should have just gone with it in the 360 era, because back then, at least they were constantly delivering on rather high profile and exciting games.

This gen is a pale shadow of MS last gen....pre-Kinect that is. I can't believe that so many actually act like it's so great in comparison to the past.

For the rest, i'm hyped as hell for this game, too awesome... the only good game microsoft has in 2017 imho
