i'm a fan of both, and yes, i don't think this game is going to even compare, going by their previous dull games and the gameplay videos of the surge.

Story wise sounds intriguing, but the gameplay demo video doesn't interest me so far. Maybe it's the level/enemy design. Need to see more gameplay videos of other levels or a boss fight.

Are we comparing Deck13 to the likes of From and Team Ninja? Do they deserve that level of expectation?

No, no they don't. While I didn't find LotF as poor as some-it was an average game nowhere near the quality of it's obvious influences and suffered with very limited environments and slightly clunky gameplay-I certainly saw little to suggest a move into From or TN territory any time soon.

I'd love to be proven wrong but it's going to take a vast improvement to see them reach Nioh in space standards. The gameplay looks an improvement and surely they won't have as few different looking areas as last time out but story, pacing and all sorts of stuff just has to get so much better. I dunno if they have the budget to go with their ambitions to be honest.

everything is dark souls now. gaming news 'people' use dark souls as a synonym for 'difficult'
its especially bad when people compare stuff preceding dark souls to dark souls, like castlevania.

Nah the developers of this game already made one dark souls clone and they're making another. Hint, the first one was really bad

the problem is, developers are content with subpar gameplay with no depth. souls are good games, but that gameplay is seriously lacking. Team Ninja at the very least, incorporated deep mechanics to separate its game from the barrage of clones.

Featuring_Dante -"souls are good games, but that gameplay is seriously lacking." you just denied one of the major reasons why souls games are extremely successful. that statement is usually said by people who only played a little of it. im not implying you did, but to each his own i guess?

gameplay is phenomenal in the souls games. most fans and critics agree to this, its easily the best the last 2 generations has ever seen since the OG ninja gaiden series. which also is one of my favorite series of all time.

alas, team ninja's attempt at souls games were insanely better than fromsofts attempt at ninja gaiden, ninja blade is completely horrid. but nioh, man is it such a freakin good game. a fantastic foundation for whats to come next. team ninja is back from the dead.

It might be good if it can do the controls right, make it nice and fluid and precise. Lords of the fallen was a mediocre souls game rip off. The play style just wasn't exciting. Maybe this time they'll beat this mark, but I doubt it.

After watching the gameplay video, showcasing how one acquires weapons/armour schematics from enemies (by literally decapitating it off the subject) I became a fan.

Hopefully the story is strong.

Big shoes to fill, with expectations like those, I hope they succeed but I have my doubts. This is a game I actually will read up on,I dont usually but Deck13 hasnt made big games I know of so I am skeptical. Wish them well, I like the premise and direction, but easier said than done.
