I'm thinking about getting a Vita. There are a decent number of games I want to play on it and it seems like a cool device. I owned the PSP since the day it launched and I really enjoyed it.

I'm hoping that Sony will release a new handheld that can play stripped down versions of every PS4 game. I've talked about this before and why I think it's possible, despite it seeming improbable. Basically, if they require developers to make games scalable between their three platforms--new handheld, standard PS4 and PS4 Pro--this would give gamers a lot of choices as to how they can play their PS4 games. Imagine being able to play your PS4 games while traveling or away from the house. It would be incredible if Sony can pull it off.

Sony already pulled it off with remote play (if you have a good WI-FI connection), but I get where you're coming from.

Nah I hope Sony dumps it so they can only focus on PS Pro and continue with new VR.

I never thought I'd mention the ps Vita on a post but here it goes.

As a standalone piece of kit it's great and there are a lot of good games for it. I wish they they supported it more of late but that's life.

However since you mentioned VR, I bought the VR for my youngest lad and all I can say about it is "I wish it would work ALL THE TIME. despite constant messing around we have had A LOT of issues with it. The main issue being that the tracking completely stops and we have to unplug and restart the processing unit every 10 - 15 mins. Once it loses track the camera box comes up say fill you head in the box which he does and then after hitting ok it STILL comes back. So after powering on and off the processor it comes back to life.

We have covered the reflective surfaces sorted the room lights, Set the gaming area as per dimensions specified, redone the tracking lights, redone the camera so many times i've lost count!!

Since we bought it he has played Worlds, VR Playroom, Blood Rush, Eagle Flight and Resi 7. HOWEVER never for more than 10 -15 mins and he's sick of it.

Any ideas would be great but we are considering either getting a replacement (we had to wait till the end of Jan to get it due to availability) or ditching it completely.

So short answer PS Vita great but VR for our experience doesn't work properly

If the Vita had proper L2 R2 L3 and R3 then that 'stripped down PS4 game' thing would have been a lot more feasible (and probably done already). As of now Remote Play is available on not just the Vita but a wide range of devices. Remote Play works surprisingly well on my shitty i3 laptop.

@pinkcrocodile, sounds like its faulty. Mine occasionally has drift, you just hold down options to recentre whilst looking at the camera.

My youngest lad is a little sensitive so he thinks it's something he's done wrong.

It better be! It's the best handheld console I own. Though I admit I mostly play the retro PS1 titles, but that's still a huge selling point that Sony seems to have glossed over. Now you can play classic RPGs like FF7 and not worry about saving. You can just put the handheld to sleep. Perfect for train rides to work.

I have a pro and a 4k tv...yet still play my vita more. I may be the only person in the world for whom this is true....either way...I sincerely hope it gets another lease of life. A truly great console.

if not the only you are one of very few. ;) to each their own though. Some people just have more use, desire, what have you for handheld over console.

the vita is great though. I'm happy I bought one but at the same time regretful. I knew even with the PSP I didn't have room or desire for handhelds but like the PSP bought the Vita anyway. Sadly it's mainly useless to me, though it does have some fantastic games & is a great device. I do really wish Square would bring FF Crisis Core to the Vita though... Even though I don't use my vita hardly ever I've been thinking about finally buying PSTV so I can play Gravity Rush and other games on my TV.

It still has games releasing & on the horizon, but support has dropped severely recently (probably due to exploits reducing profits).
Optimisation has dropped too, take a look at Hollow Realization for instance, even with the extra 30% memory that Hollow Fragment didn't have access to.

I'd like if ports could be handled by more capable people instead of mobile porting companies with no Vita experience, or at least more support for the 1 guy doing certain ports by himself.

I wonder if Sony would ever consider dropping the memory card prices, or if that be too much of a loss considering they had to dump a large portion of manufactured Vitas 2 or 3 years ago.

Am I the only person pissed about losing PS Now? It was the ONLY thing I played regularly on my Vita. I'm a little down on Sony (except for the PS4). I have 4 month old 65" Bravia that still has an ancient version of Android. All users received a non removable tile on their home screen saying the "Marshmallow" update was coming "after December". I mean, what does that even mean?? I emailed Sony support and was told "No ETA". Let's not even get started on Nougat. My point is, Sony seems to have a habit of great products with atrocious support (i'm talking updates and live customer support). I just expect more from a company that sells their products at premium prices.

I play my Vita all the time, have a bunch of games in my backlog, plus several this year that I'm looking forward to. (Really hyped for Danganronpa V3 and Mary Skelter: Nightmares) It may not have mass appeal, but that won't stop me enjoying myself with such a great little system. :)

Now if someone could just confirm the localisation of Net High, Uppers, Coven and The Labyrinth, Dungeon Travelers 2-2, Death Mark and Idol Death Game TV that'd be great... M'kay? ;)

Yes it will be great when I can Zelda MARIO kart etc on my big TV and then take it on the go and play it. Difference is it won't be a stripped down version besides slight resolution drop Switch for the win.

I am so glad I bought the second one,.. the first one years ago got stolen,... Basically playing it daily when on the bus or working night time shifts,.. only thing I wish is for it to have triggers +2 more buttons instead of touch pad,.. Beautiful machine.

they should be using the ps vita as a wireless vr screen. no more wires, plus you can take it out with you and play it as a vita. at least you would get your moneys worth out of it. get rid of the ridiculous eyetoy the vita does have a camera to judge distances.

I doubt it. The Vita was an awesome piece of hardware but its crazy how fast technology advances. It's just wouldn't make sense to build another powerful portable device then a year later get over powered from the next Galaxy phone.
