NiOh Review: Don't Call it Bloodborne 2 | DualShockers

I enjoyed GR2 just as much as the first one. It's not hugely different; the new gravity styles add enough variety to freshen up combat, missions and challenges. It's a bit longer, and the plot was more interesting to me, although more convoluted too. If you end up playing it, keep in mind that although the game's credits roll after mission 20, there are actually 26 missions, and you have to seek them out to get the true ending; I was surprised that they left like three more hours of game easily missable by many people.

Every games like Souls, each of them has their own identity despite the similarities. For Example, Lord of The Fallen which I enjoyed it. It surpassed the test to become its own thing rather than be Souls knock off in my opinion. BloodBorne did the same thing. So I'm glad Nioh surpassed the test. So I can't wait The Surge.

SoulMikeY, 2 issues with your 'opinion'; firstly, it's a fair guess you haven't played Nioh through to be able to make that judgement, second Nioh's early reviews suggest it's vastly superior to Lords of the Fallen. LotF wasn't bad, in my opinion, but I had more fun playing the demos of Nioh alone.

Yeah, but reviews are skewed too. It might be better than Lords, I'll admit. But just from the demos, it can't even hold a candle to the worst dark souls, yet it has higher review scores from some so far.

So yeah, I exaggerated a bit with Lords, but every Soulsborne game is vastly superior to Nioh.

Lords of the fallen has some similarities to the Souls games or Bloodborne but it does have some unique features such as you have a limited time to get back your experience when you die. Of course dying again means you lose that experience.

There is also a "risk-reward" feature in that Harkyn's experience increases through a multiplier that builds up the longer the player mixes up combo attacks or avoids using checkpoints and spending their experiences. Use a checkpoint and your multiplier resets.

As one who has played all the Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 & 2 and Bloodborne I don't think Lords of the fallen is garbage. It can even be played at a similar pace to Bloodborne providing you wear light armor and you better "git gud" if you do that since you can't call for help.

Also, Lords of the Fallen is a very competent game. The visuals, combat, atmosphere, and loot were solid. Your weapons actually have impact when they hit enemies and there many interesting secrets to the game. It was not made by a huge team and it didn't have the budget of a Souls game, you have to understand that going in. Obviously things like voice acting and world size will suffer bc of this, but all in all it was entertaining and well built for what it was. I thoroughly enjoyed it, i respect Deck13, and i am highly anticipating The Surge.

Your entitled to your opinion but yours is not an opinion that the majority agree with, Nioh is a beast onto itself it has similar game loop as Souls games but it isn't a clone and if you played it you would know that.

Me and the wife would both be totally flipping out! It's our favorite game this gen (her all time favorite), we both got our first and only platinum trophy on Bloodborne.

If it gets announced at E3 then everything else is just icing on the cake.

Really like what explain. I don't see similar mechanics. Nioh has a vastly deeper weapons system along with various chi items that enhance abilities. A completely different lore that takes place in ancient Japan. Much slower paced. And relies heavily on using three different fighting stances.

I recall a vastly simpler weapons system in bloodborne. Each weapon had two functions and you relied heavily on timed dodge moves. No pets that bestowed powers or need to pray at shrines. Took place in some gothic fantasy world. Other than dieing a lot I don't see the comparison please help me see what you see.

Bloodborne has 90% of the same mechanics as Dark Souls, NiOh is heavily inspired by Dark Souls and has 90% of the same mechanics. Bloodborne is faster than Dark Souls, NiOh is faster than Dark Souls. See where the comparison comes from?

The chi items are the same as weapon and personal buffs. NiOh has three stances but people that have played it know that the low stance is the way to go.

Oh boy! I am still playing Yakuza 0, Resident Evil 7 and FFXV and NiOh arrives! I had just finished The Last Guardian, Rise of the Tomb Raider and WatchDogs 2 three weeks ago. I cannot remember another time like this, certainly in the last decade, when there were so many good and great games around in a period of 2 to 3 months. There will be just enough time to play NiOh before Horizon arrives and then Persona 5 and in the midst of these, we will be playing The Legend of Zelda on Switch! Gravity Rush 2 will have to wait on the shelf for now...

The amount of games on PS4 exclusives wise is simply amazing. It's only February and so far it's been exclusive after exclusive

This is one thing I like about Sony they won't simply hold back titles to release around holiday season. This way all the games get in the limelight

Fall season is the worst time to release so many games because most get big price cuts by black Friday and or are simply lost in the shuffle

I like how an intentional game mechanic is a "flaw" lol. "I lost my progress when I visited the shrine, all the enemies re spawned". You gotta find and open up the shortcuts yo! I didn't any real flaw described in that review.

It'a death penalty. It's not inherently positive or negative. It depends on what you like.

It says there are some flaws in the conclusion and that's the only thing in the interview that was supposedly frustrating. It's a positive, a good game mechanic. There are consequences for leveling up before you open up the shortcuts. It's not even a penalty if you can make it back to where you died.
