bouzebbal, first of all you can't preorder the PS4 because you can just buy one. Second, your idea of good is subjective, which is why people like me still prefer the XB1 exclusives.

ChrisX has a point though. I know that I'm in the minority with my gaming preferences and that more good games in more diverse categories can only lead to more gamers wanting an XB1. MS can only benefit from broadening its' portfolio and I'm curious to see what MS has yet to unannounce.

If you want to pay all that money, then go ahead, and laugh yourself to sleep. Most people that are really interested will just put that money toward PC and keep their normal consoles that will be able to play every single game the Scorpio can play. And the multiplats will perform fine

That is true, the Xbox brand with the Scorpio will most likely capture the market for those mostly interested in cross plats, but the more high quality exclusives that are offered the more variety there is for consumers to choose from. Xbox brand hands down has the better console exclusive shooters with Halo and Gears
(Crackdown may join that club as well) and arguably the best racing simulation (Forza) but it is lacking in other areas. "IF" MS can tap into those areas and build successful franchises with single player adventure games like Tomb Raider and role playing games, that would only help bring in more gamers. MS has tired with games like Quantum Break, but it wasn't revived as well as thought. Doesn't mean they can't keep trying until they get ti right with that type of game.

@aconnellan Not everyone does, but quite a few of us do. Though rather than focus on 4k with 30fps and low settings (ala Scorpio), most of us crank them up and get 60fps at 1080p or 1440p. True 4k gaming (not the half-ass console version) is still very niche.

I understand that people have gaming PCs, and true 4K gaming itself is still pretty niche like you say. But my point is that the argument against Scorpio is currently "but all their games are on PC, just play them on that", when not everyone has or wants a PC, whether that's because of cost, effort, or simple preference.

The argument against the Xbox One at launch was 'multiplats are better on PS4', which is true; but they're better again on PC. So why wouldn't you get all multiplats on PC? Because people prefer to game on console, specifically on the PS4.

The same is true for when people ask "why not just get all the Xbox games on PC instead?" Because people prefer to game on console, and in this case specifically on the Xbox

Here comes Kingthrash again with his concerned trolling. Mate, you make out that everyone buys exclusives day 1 and finishes them quickly, therefore they only have Halo Wars 2 to play. I still have FH3 to finish, must be at least 40 hours already having finished Gears. Then there's the third party stuff. Not Started Titanfall 2 or Battlefield yet, not to mention the multiplayer aspects of all of these games. If you're cycling through games 1 a week you may be a bit empty on the game front but most people I know still have a backlog to play. That's before all the new stuff like Mass Effect and RDR start to hit.

Games will look great, it's far more powerful than the Xbox One, so the upgrade is very promising for anyone playing exclusively to that platform. It doesn't matter if it can't hit native 4k. It's going to show a huge difference either way.

I upgraded to a PS4 Pro and it blew my mind when I played ROTTR for the first time. And that gap wasn't as dramatic as we're talking here. I'll definitely be doing the same thing with my X1S -which was still a worthwhile investment purely for its UHD Bluray support.

You're going from 900p at mid-high settings to 1800-2160p at high-ultra settings.

Comparison and 4K videos online will work but may restrict people to seeing the differences if their internet is slow, so having 4K HDR TV promotional displays showing off visuals at retailers will probably be the best route for marketing.

Absolutely. Ps4 Pro gives an incredible boost to games that support it and there will be much better examples later on this year. I can only imagine the boost Scorpio will give (even if it goes the upscaling route) due to its beefier GPU. Can you imagine how amazing the dark and gritty world of gears 5 would look on that thing??

If the latest rumors are true, Scorpio will do 4k/60 on ultra due to the newly patented architecture AMD and MS have been working on since at least 2013. It's supposed to boost efficiency by 60% (6tf x 1.6 = 9.6tf worth of performance) over an equivalent PC.

I know it's just the latest round of rumors from Mr. X's site at this point, but consider that the devs behind Ori recently released a statement that Scorpio was way better than Pro. Why? I don't think that the PS4's performance is way better than the XB1's, and the percentage of difference between the OG's is supposed to about the same as that of the Pro/Scorpio. 343 also said that Scorpio was beefier than they expected, and we all expect the GPU to be 6tf, right?

All I'm saying is that it's plausable that MS and AMD have patented a low latency architecture, debuting in Scorpio, that boosts efficiency by 60% over equivalent PC HW. Since no one will actually know what Scorpio is truly capable of until MS unveils the tech later this year, however, you may also be right in your speculation. As for the Mr. X rumor, I'll believe it when I see it.

Yes, it's going to be interesting seeing all the fanboys eyes see HDR and 4k on their 1080p screens and even on a stream. Their eyesight will be able to see the differences once the Scorpio is announced. It's going to be a sight to behold.

With that aside, I'm really looking forward to the announcement and I hope MS gives me a reason to pick one up. If the price is right (please be $399 MS), I will preorder one in a heartbeat. Price is king whether people want to believe it or not. I can give two sh!ts about the games because I don't own a X1 so I will have a big backlog already. Noticed I said me and we'll I'm going to take that back a little.

I do want to see some new IPs though. Not going to lie. At $399, expect Scorpio to fly off the shelf. Can't wait for both Sony and MS conferences. It's going to be a great year. Games and a hardware announcement. As a gamer, who can ask for more.

the sony diehards are so salty on all of the scorpio posts. curious how their arguments changed from the xb1 being not as powerful to suddenly the importance of exclusives. lets be real here... at least in my circumstances.

i own 2 xb1s consoles, (one on each 4k HDR tv) and a ps4 pro (also on one of the 4k HDR tv's). I probably have around 12 games for each console. of those 24(ish) games, about 3 are exclusive to xb1 and 2 or 3 are exclusive to ps4. that still leaves 18 games - the majority of my purchases - multiplatform 3rd party. if a multiplatform game has a ps4 pro patch, chances are i will buy the game for the Pro to make use of the extra power it has - this only became a thing when i purchased the Pro. before the Pro it was more about which platform had more of my friends playing a particular game as i found the power difference between the base ps4 and the xb1s to be negligible in real life use. Some games actually looked sharper on the 1s thanks to its fantastic 4k hw upscaler but to be fair, the Pro can offer this now as well for sub 2160p content/games.

What does this tell us in my real life use study? That exclusives are a minority of the games I play and I will always buy the best version of a multiplatform game regardless of platform.

i have both consoles because i do enjoy the exclusives that each offer (love both forzas and halo and i also love uncharted and god of war on ps4) so i understand that exclusives have importance. for me though since most of the games I buy are 3rd party, my biggest requirements are power and support. xbox has plenty of 3rd party support and scorpio is way more powerful than the pro so what does this say? probably that i will start buying my multiplatforms on scorpio. i'll still have the pro for exclusives or if more friends are playing a certain game that I'm playing on playstation but I'm super excited for scorpio. I'm a gamer first and a brand whore loyalist never. companies need to earn mine.

people buy console mainly because:
1. their friends play on it
2. they like the games it offers

for Sony and Nintendo who have plethora of single player games, varied in genre, it's easier for people to buy it even if their friends don't play/have one, which helps A LOT in gaining new markets. MS on the other hands seemed to focus a little too much on multiplayer games, which helps on regions where it has an established install base, but in new regions or regions where their install base is too little, people simply won't look at it because it's useless to buy a multiplayer-focused console if none of your friends are on it, quality of the games won't matter.

look at it like this:
1. I want to play TLoU, Uncharted, and God of War, none of my friends have PS4 but it doesn't matter because those are single player games, I bought PS4 in the end.
2. I want to play Zelda and Mario, luckily a multiplayer focused game "Mario Kart 8" has FRIGGIN SPLITSCREEN, it doesn't matter if none of my friends have it I can invite them to play with me, maybe talk them into buying another Switch, same as above I bought Switch in the end.
3. I want to play Halo, Gears of War, and Forza, all of which has multiplayer as a big part of the game. Even in the whole country there's not that much players exist, which means I most likely have to play against far away players with big latency and language difference. It's too bad but I won't get 100% enjoyment out of it if in every multiplayer games I have a hard time even just speaking with my team.

Okay, let's forget about exclusives like you seem to want to do, let's assume both PS4 and X1 have all the same games, then why would someone who owns one of the two buy the other one 'cos there's no reason to?

Especially currently if you own a PS4 there would be no reason to get an X1 since all the big selling games even look and run better on the PS4.

With the Scorpio, however, MS has one enticing thing to get people to buy it, those multiplat games will look and run better on it than on the PS4 Pro.

But not everyone will flock to the most powerful console that easily, especially not if they have a bunch of friends on the other brand AND a whole collection of games for it, some will do it, but am sure most won't.

WITH exclusive games tho, one could be persuaded to get the other brand's console to complement the one you already have, so yes, they are important in selling a system.

As for people who have no brand loyalty at all and don't yet have a current gen console, they might just as easily go with the more powerful one, but that's still not a given. Exclusives do exist, if they want to play Halo they go for Xbox, if they want to play Uncharted they go for a PlayStation.

Then there's the added fact they might even already have a PC capable of running the Xbox games with PlayAnywhere...

I dunno, but something tells me that having more and more enticing games on Xbox would be a good thing....

@Aeneas I agree with you. Add into account of those many gamers that just upgraded to the OneS/PSPro, potentially a very high price tag. I can see the possibility of this being a hard sale for many (obviously not the crowd here on N4G) standard gamers. Thats what is needed for mass market appeal.

If the specs hold true I could see this machine retailing for $499. I mean the last time I heard MS say something about a "premium product" it was the pro controller and it certainly had a premium price tag. That isn't to say it's a good product (I have heard nothing but positives about it) but again, I don't think the average player who plays more than a "casual" but less than gaming enthusiasts would bite.

Who knows what will happen, but It will be interesting to watch it play out. I have a feeling that MS (Xbox division) feels a bit backed in to a corner, and it just may make them do something really good, but I think everyone can agree they have to seriously bring it with the content to counter Sony's 2017 line up.

I'm fairly certain this will launch with Crackdown 3, which will be the "killer" app / "system seller".

I've still got my OG Xbox one, so I was tempted at one point to get an S, especially when I saw one on ebay today for 219.99 with a copy of Battlefield 1 (a helluva sale).

I think with MS trying to sell the S models off, we may see something soon on Scorpio, possibly prior to E3.

I'm still on the fence, as I don't even have a 4k TV yet, but I'll most likely get one eventually.

I figure by that time Sony will have a more powerful Pro type system (to compete with Scorpio). So I'm holding off on jumping the gun on any of these systems.

Honest opinion here.

I think MS should hold off on Scorpio and make it a true 9th gen system. PS4 Pro (which I got day one, and enjoy I should add, it's a nice little upgrade especially for 4K TV owners) hasn't exactly set the world alight. MS is too eager to pump out new hardware. They should just make due with the 35mil sold or however much it is, and ride it out another 2 years.

Most people have already invested in PS4 this generation, and if anyone buys a second console it's gonna be a Switch, which not only offers more exclusives but offers portable play. MS would be better to wait, beef it up a little more, and come hard in holiday 2019.

But, that's just one anonymous users opinion. Either way I'll be buying one to sit alongside my Switch and PS4 Pro.

Genuine question: Do people think Scorpio will have exclusive games? I mean games for it but not on XBOne to take advantage of the power. Do people think there are unannounced games at the moment that are going to be ready for it at launch?

I dont believe there will be Scorpio exclusives. It would really piss of XBO owners being left in the cold like that. So the down side is Scorpio is going to release with only the games we know about now, or possibly a couple smaller titles if they get announced very soon. I dont see anything getting announced at E3 and making it to shops this christmas. I guess Sea of Thieves and Crackdown are going to be the titles to carry it this year. Do they have release dates yet?

Sea of Thieves is in beta, so it'll almost-certainly launch within the next 6 months - likewise, Crackdown is set to launch 'before Holiday 2017'... with regards to new games, Forza Motorsport 7 will be announced/released well before Christmas, as well as a bunch of VR games.

As to the matter of exclusives, Phil Spencer said that while Microsoft's 1st party devs will continue to support the XO, 3rd party devs can do whatever they want - leaving the door open for games like Star Citizen, which was never going to run on a 'vanilla' XO... and while exclusives like Crackdown and Forza will dazzle, it'll be multiplats like Red Dead 2, CoD and the Witcher 3 that sell the most Scorpios.

I do find it funny how Sony fanboys now preach about games and exclusives since Scorpios announcement, but before that it was all about power, frame rate, is funny how the train they jump on always sounds the same.

Yeah Xbox could do with more exclusives games, but there's still plenty to play, but does that now go hand in hand with the fact we could now say the PlayStation could now do with more power. It always boils down to nothing is perfect and there is always more that can be done to make it even better.

I'm happy with what I own which is an Xbox one, if I had the money I would like a PlayStation as I enjoy the industry I've known since I was a kid, I never I'll wish another developer and I certainly don't go the fan boy route.
