Resident Evil 7 Sell In Exceeds 2.5 Million Worldwide; Franchise Hits 75 Million Units Worldwide

"Resident Evil 7 was a risk as it moved away once again from the formula it was used to, like when Resident Evil 4 moved away from survival horror and turned into the action series that lasted for another 10 years. It sounds like the risk has paid off as the sell in numbers for Resident Evil 7 has already exceeded 2.5 million worldwide."

Congrats to Capcom. The game is amazing. The atmosphere is spot on and the game is very intense. Great job. Been having a blast.

TheCommentator2663d ago

Wow, that's some massive sales! That's what happens when Capcom, in spite of my earlier impressions, actually does listen to its fans.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, and I'm going to be trying it fairly soon too!

Playing RE7 on PSVR is incredible and terrifying, Capcom deserves to be successful on this one.

UltraNova2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

PSVR is still out of stock here where I live...meanwhile I've been holding off buying it because I want to experience only in VR...god damn it 😠😠😠

KickSpinFilter2663d ago

I just started to see it in stock again last week, perhaps the shortage spell is ending?

2.5 million shipped is a good start but it's down a lot from the over 4 million shipped first week for RE5 and RE6. I'm guessing out of those 2.5 million shipped they have probably sold half of them.

Rimeskeem2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

The game SOLD 2.5 million and they expect to SHIP 4 million units by March 31st.

Unless I read that wrong

I see

TGGJustin2663d ago

You read it wrong. The term "Sell in" is used to refer to shipped numbers. When they say "sell through" it means sold to consumers. They shipped 2.5 million not sold.

Kurdishcurse2663d ago

capcom projected re7 to sell 4 million period...id say its much more than successful.

_-EDMIX-_2663d ago

Will you also have to factor that I'm doubtful that Resident Evil 7 came even near the cost of Resident Evil 5 or 6.

You're not going to know how profitable this was for this company if you also don't know how much it cost them to produce this game.

I just do not believe that this game cost more money than Resident Evil 5 or 6 for god sakes Resident Evil 6 had a Staff of upwards to 600....

IndominusRex2663d ago

Pretty sure the last gen user base was much higher when those games came out...

IamTylerDurden12663d ago

I would assume RE7 was cheaper to make and it should have more staying power than RE6 which was not rated as a very good game.

The game had a much lower marketing and development budget. This game was an experiment to see where they should take Resident Evil. I'm sure Capcom is very happy with the numbers they're seeing.

While Resident Evil continues to thrive and prosper, its longtime rival Silent Hill festers and dies in pachinko

ShaunCameron2663d ago

Pretty much. Even on its worst day, RE still outperforms the S/H competition.

sdcard4gb2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

That is mostly because Konami are fucking idiots...

sdcard4gb2663d ago

The only thing that prospers is the genre of First-Person horror games. If it was only Resident Evil that prospered we would've seen the actual traditional RE.

IamTylerDurden12663d ago

There are plenty of unsuccessful first person horror games as well. Capcom developed a fantastic game, it's silly to try and somehow discredit them bc they went first person. The game was developed for VR from the ground up, obviously that helped influence their decision to go first person.

PhoenixUp2663d ago

@ sd

There are still plenty of successful third person horror games nowadays

Kyosuke_Sanada2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

I'd have to disagree on that. You name me one third person horror for this generation and and Ill name several first person horrors to make up for that. There's barely any on modern consoles let alone PC and none play as traditional survival horror.

sdcard4gb2663d ago

Yeah ? Name at least 5. I am genuinely interested. *prepares a notebook*
What 3rd person horror games there were since The Evil Within ?

PhoenixUp2663d ago

@ Kyosuke

Why would the amount of first person horror games negate the third person ones? I'm certain you could name a lot, but that doesn't make third person horror games irrelevant.

Kyosuke_Sanada2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

What I am saying is that we need more third person survival horror and horror RPG's made from the ground up to use modern technology. I feel that my favourite genre is getting to saturated by a plethora of first person games and seeing that horror is never really looked as a highly profit avenue, releases for them (especially new IPS) are extremely far in between.

PhoenixUp2663d ago

Horror RPG? That's a strange subsection of games, but plenty of them still exist.

There are still plenty of third person horror games still being released

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein103d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

shinoff2183103d ago

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.
