I'd say Resident Evil: Revelations laid down the groundwork on how to create a great title in the franchise that greatly blended classic and modern elements into a wholesome experience.

I wouldnt say saved I would say evolved with all ready existing gameplay that started with part 4 .

I believe they have listened to the fans this time .but are the fans happy only time and the sales will tell .I'm hoping they don't mess up resident evil 2 remake

masterfox2666d ago

Nope, this ain't Resident Evil one bit is more like mixture of Silent Hill 2, P.T. and Outlast in other words the game has a identity crisis.

Darkwatchman2665d ago

No it doesn't. It's a very clearly focused survival horror game with several key callbacks to the older and design/gameplay elements that 4-6 abandoned. The only reason you think it has an "identity crisis" is because its first person.

You know what game had an identity crisis? RE 6. 4 campaigns each with their own different styles that were meant to appeal to different audiences from the slightly more atmospheric Leon campaign to the full blown cover military shooter that was Chris' campaign to the stealth and puzzle focused Ada Wong campaign.

THAT is a game with an identity crisis. Resident Evil 7 knows what it is and sticks to it regardless of how longtime series fans may feel about the new perspective.

I agree that it's a RE game first and foremost. Haven't beaten the game yet but damn I'm really enjoying it. Atmosphere is killer. Probably my favorite setting in series. Don't think I like it more than 1,2,3 and 4 but it's great nonetheless. In fact only thing I would say negatively about it is I don't think it has the replayabilty those other games had. But as far as a first time through it's right up there with those games.

Wish I had VR too, would be really scary to play it like that.

Ogygian2664d ago

They've taken classic Resident Evil and evolved it with the times.

Hardiman2664d ago

Welp with that mentality then the new God of War isn't a God of War game. Different perspective and more story driven. RE7 was exactly what the franchise needed.

ZeekQuattro2664d ago

No. Like I've said in the past the Revelations series was Capcom getting back on track but unfortunately they again went off the rails with the advent of RE 7: Silent Hills Edition. So like RE 6 I'll pass. I'm still waiting for Remake 2 which I hope is still a thing at this point.
