‘1-2 Switch’ Could’ve Been the Next Wii Sports

1-2 Switch is obviously meant for parties, gatherings, and families, and there's nothing wrong with that. The newly enhanced IR functionality of the joy cons apparently has enough depth to accurately convey motion, distance from objects, and various gestures, a huge step up from the Wii's abilities.

It could've but Nintendo went with Cow milking. You know, because everyone wanted a game where we could milk cows with motion controls

Summons752675d ago

Gotta hit the farming community :p But really they have a bunch of mini games and it should have been a pack in...still tempted to get it for drunken nights with friends but LoZ is more important.

PhoenixUp2675d ago

Idk how many people would've played Wii Sports if it weren't already bundled into the console

Orionsangel2675d ago (Edited 2675d ago )

1 2 Switch and Arms seem like left over ideas for 2007 Wii games. Will Nintendo ever get beyond motion controls and concentrate solely on just making good games? I wanna play modern sequels to familiar franchises we know and love with some new features thrown in and that's all. I want that by the millions! I don't want new ways to play games. Give me a regular gamepad controller a great game and I'm happy. Stop chasing the success of the Wii, Nintendo! Nintendo should release two consoles. One with all the gimmicks and innovations and simplistic games. Then another one that's a sequel to the NES. That continues the familiar feel and fun of the Nintendo we all know and love.

conanlifts2674d ago (Edited 2674d ago )

Arms is getting a great reception from those who have played it. People moan there are not enough new IP's. They then moan too many games are the same. But a new ip is released and they find a reason to moan about it without even giving it a chance or trying it.
1, 2 switch contains a minimum of 24 mini games, it's also not a full priced game. How about we just give it a go. At least its different to COD etc which, while familiar, are very stale now. Of course it could be terrible but we should at least try it first.

Orionsangel2674d ago

I already played motion control games. I don't like them. They're reselling us old garbage with a few new tweaks.

https://youtu.be/6qOsmMayJc...

You can all me old fashioned but I like a traditional gamepad.

conanlifts2674d ago

Just for information it had already been confirmed tgat you do not need motion controls for Arms. It can be played like a traditional fighting game.

Orionsangel2674d ago

Well that makes it different. That doesn't make it a simplistic game with no substance. Oh yeah it still does. Just give us what we want Nintendo and stop with the cheesy party games.

FreeSpeech692674d ago (Edited 2674d ago )

Nintendo won't even give you their Tech Demo LOL, pay up Nintendo Fan Boys. They could make a game about Reggie anally raping you, and you would buy 4 copies!

adaminoregon2674d ago

Umm no. This game looks like hot garbage. How many times to do you think people will want to draw guns at each other, or milk a cow, or block one sword strike? These are all mini games that are done in 15 seconds or less. And we all know they won't really work right.

Switch Sports Will Never Live Up To Wii Sports

The Switch just isn't equipped for a killer sports title like the Wii was

A lot of the points made here are true, yet let's give it a chance, because like the author said, the Wii was a motion control console and everyone did view it as such while the switch is not, so the way people view the game determines how much they invested in it, so again let's give it a chance and see

Ratty823d ago

Wii sports was truly atrocious and you're saying Switch Sports will be even worse? It does not bode well for Switch Sports indeed.

Fntastic823d ago

Wii Sports was ok for screwing around, but the games lacked depth. Also I'm not sure why it seems like they decided to stick with the automatic player movement so all you need to do is swing to hit something. Very noob friendly but not as much fun IMO.

CrimsonWing69823d ago (Edited 823d ago )

Wii Sports was THE game for casuals. I don’t feel many casuals own the Switch. I can’t see this doing the numbers Wii Sports did.

Einhander1971823d ago

Course it won't, the Wii was a phenomenon. Something new with the motion tech. A curiosity to almost everyone. Obviously Switch sports won't create the same impact.

Here's Why Wii Sports Needs To Come To the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo could be sitting on a gold mine with a past favorite.

Because we all miss accidentally throwing our Wiimotes at the TV, so let's throw some Joy-Cons.

Neonridr854d ago

VR is the same way, wrist straps for a reason.

Neonridr854d ago

I loved the golf from Wii Sports Resort.

Cuzizkool853d ago

I was always confused by Nintendo’s decision to kill the franchise. “Super” stayed with Mario titles even after the Super Nintendo. They can still use the Wii name. Hell it’s been so long that releasing a new one, or even an HD remaster, will tap into that nostalgia market.

DazaMc853d ago

Super Mario launched on the NES not the Super NES.

septemberindecember853d ago

Super was never because of the Super Nintendo. Super Mario Bros launched on the NES. The Super is because it's an indirect sequel to Mario Bros.

They can just call it Nintendo Sports or something, but using the Wii name would be a bit confusing.

Bigman4k853d ago

Yeah i agree but i don't think Nintendo will be bringing wii sports to the Nintendo Switch samething goes for diddykong racing

shadowT1163d ago (Edited 1163d ago )

Missing Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PS5 in this list. Love this game!

Orchard1163d ago

They probably didn't include it (and a bunch of others) because of their criteria for "lasting influence on the industry".

SMMM is a good game, but it doesn't stand out enough to have THAT huge of an impact on the industry as a whole - especially when compared to games like Mario, Halo & Tetris.

Sonic-and-Crash1163d ago (Edited 1163d ago )

i would also add Sonic and Crash (pun intended lol) ...Sonic 1 on MD is a all time classic game that helped MegaDrive to separate itself and explode in sales... also Crash Bandicoot ...while not exactly a launch game..it was pretty close to launch for PS1 (in Europe was almost a launch game as PS1 released later here) and trademarked the start of PS era

Orchard1163d ago

Totally agree - those two games were huge for the industry & direction of platformers.

p.s. love the irony of your name for this post :P

jaymacx1163d ago

Sonic was not a launch game. I keep seeing people say it was, but maybe they were so young it’s when they got the console. Crash bandicoot definitely wasn’t even close to being a launch game . These games are system sellers though.

septemberindecember1163d ago

@Sonic-and-Crash

Neither Sonic nor Crash released anywhere close to the launch of their respective consoles. Crash released a full year after the western launch of the PS1 (and two full years after Japan's launch), and Sonic released two years after Genesis in US, and a year after Mega Drive in PAL regions.

CorndogBurglar1162d ago

I knoe it wasn't a massive influence on the industry, but Condemned: Criminal Origins on Xbox 360 is one of my all time favorite launch games.

Ok you love it, and that's great but I think you are missing the point of the article... In any case to judge something like this I think you need time, currently we can see the tree but not the forest

darthv721163d ago

Soul Calibur... that game still holds up to this day. Such an excellent game.

jgilbert111163d ago

That game has aged like a fine wine. Still go back to it all the time on my Dreamcast.

Minute Man 7211162d ago

I should have never sold my Dreamcast

ZeekQuattro1162d ago

Mitsurugi was seriously wounded but the soul still burns.

Orchard1163d ago

Super Mario 64 + Halo were my favorite launch games - outstanding games.

Shuckylad1163d ago

Super Mario World SNES
Mario 64 N64
Halo Xbox
Motorstorm Ps3
Zelda BOTW switch

The Wood1163d ago

Motor storm. . . Yeah. . Underrated

Jericho13371163d ago

Not a launch title though.

Omegasyde1163d ago

In USA not a launch title but yes in EU etc.

frostypants1163d ago

Super Mario World is still my my favorite of all Mario games and in the discussion for best side scroller ever.
