Resident Evil 7 Takes Around 15 Hours, And That's A Good Thing

Considering the new direction that Resident Evil 7 is taking from previous entries in the franchise, is this a good length for the next game?

Too many good games coming out on basically the same day. Dragon Quest 8 3DS, Gravity Rush 2, Digimon World Next Order, Resident Evil 7, Tales of Berseria and Yakuza Zero.

I'm too poor for this! Christmas hit me hard last year. Plus I've been working so much I've hardly had time to game as much as I'd like. I'm still playing through FFXV at the moment so I won't be getting RE7 until after that anyway, but it will definitely be the first game I pick up once I've completed it.

It's way worse than the fall for me with Nioh, Horizon, Nier, Mass Effect, and Persona 5. Also Ghost Recon too. It's good that RE7 can be rented lol!

15 hours is a perfect number for time in this. That is just really an hour a day for a couple weeks. But that is clocked for the campaign. CAPCOM has hinted about many secrets and more that will take time to discover and probably become a huge threads on NEOGAF and Reddit as players learn and discover more things. (ie the RE7 Demo still has somethings no one has found yet according to CAPCOM) Also, take note that there is another 'Chapter' and ' four DLC short stories' in the Deluxe edition. (My guess is there will be 4 tapes with some back stand alone content. Maybe as you play them, they unlock things for the main game or just ass to the lore. And that this extra Chapter will be an Epilogue perhaps, or a new Character/Area/etc and a few more hours of fear. I dunno truly) but I think that way they are building this MetroidVania First Person Survival Horror Texas Chainsaw Luigi's Mansion-esk game is going to do us right in the end. Everything leads me to personally believe this will be 92-94 on the Metacritic, resounded by fans and actually restore some faith in CAPCOM. But I have been let down in the past. Here's to some faith in next weeks release.

I hear you man. Luigi's Mansion on GC and Dark Moon on 3DS were both great. That is a series that I think is one of Nintendo's best. Maybe they will make another one. Who knows?

As for RE7, I see a lot of LM in it but on a way scarier level. Can't wait!

Plus I guarantee playing this game in VR will take a lot longer. You tend to move slower as it is really more scarier. I was shuffling around when I played the demo in VR.

This is actually the average time for a Resident Evil game in fact I would say it's slightly longer.

I normally beat the Resident Evil games around 10 to 12 hours, I would say that's actually sort of longer than normal as well.

15 hours is about average for a standard game and pretty long for horror.
Silent Hill 2, widely considered one of the greatest horror games ever made, only averaged around 8-9 hours. Resident Evil 2 averaged 6 to 8 and REmake averaged around 11.

This is closer to Resident Evil 4's length. A lot can be told in that amount of time, especially if that's just an average playthrough and doesn't account for 100% completion.

With RE2 do you mean completing every scenario it would be 6-8 hours? Because, even though its one of my favourite games of all time I'm pretty sure I completed it in just over an hour.

Horror games dont need to be too long. 15 hours is just perfect. Most of my alltime fav horror games take less than 10 h to finish.

Thats actually quite long for a horror game and I normally take quite a bit longer to finish these types of games because I have to inspect every little detail and object so I can soak in as much about the game world as possible. This is excellent news. We are so close now fellas.

That's actually a really long game.

Alien Isolation (another similar first-person survival horror) was around that long and that game felt like it went on forever, and ever, and ever... and ever, and ever.

Though part of that is that game seeming like it was going to end... and then kept going (over and over).

To be honest, I was expecting it to be beatable in 5-7 hours. I thought as much because it's VR compatible and it takes place on an estate similar to RE1.

Damn right it's a good thing. Especially the way people complained about Alien Isolation being too long and it has a similar playstyle. 15 is solid for a survival horror game. The longest ones I ever played were Dead Rising 3 and Alien Isolation I loved both but it's not for everybody.

I'm perfectly ok with this length. Too many games today often like to pad in filler to extend the playtime which generally I find annoying more than anything. Too many games have gone open-world too. I'm surprised resident evil hasn't gone that route yet in all honesty or at the very least mission-based where you have a hub world to complete/select missions. I would absolutely hate that.

But yeah, I'm very excited for it. I'm going to wait a few days to see some personal reviews about it, and if its generally good then I will be picking it up on steam.

It's 15h because most likely they cut out 10h of the game to sell it later as DLC. It is Capcom people, maybe the DLC is already on the disc.

It's a survival horror game! we don't need 50 or 100 of hours of gameplay now do we? 15 hours is long enough considering I would take 10 long minutes just to decide whether I should open a door cause I'll be scared as hell.
