New Sucker Punch PS4 game is a new IP

It looks as if the new long-in-development PS4 title from inFAMOUS developer Sucker Punch Productions is in fact a new IP, that is according to known industry insider Shinobi602.

-Foxtrot2689d ago

Ah awesome

Was hoping for inFAMOUS 3 (maybe something with Cole to wrap it up as a trilogy) but a new IP sounds awesome

Abash2689d ago

Another inFamous is still possible someday, but it is all they have done since moving on from Sly Cooper. I'm really excited hearing its a new IP, I love Sly and inFamous so I cant wait to see their next new series

bouzebbal2689d ago

Awesome stuff.. Looking forward to this. Probably at e3. I love this developer I platinumed every single game they made.

naruga2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

@ Foxtrot are u serious?? inFamous was mediocre generally (not technically bad but generic , uninspired and boring to play, completely forgetable ) ... its good that they didnt continued the IP instead invested their resources to smthing new ....i wonder what genre will be the new game and if it manages to attract my interest

nveenio2689d ago

Infamous 1 and 2 are still my only Platinumed games. If it wasn't for a change in my lifestyle, I would have done the same with Second Son. I love those games.

DARKKENT2689d ago

E3 cannot come quick enough

Deadpooled2688d ago

naruga receiving a well deserved 72 disagrees to a mere 2 agrees, want to see "not technically bad but generic , uninspired and boring to play, completely forgetable"? go back to Quantum Broken and Ryse.

Drizzy2688d ago

New ip's are cool. Just hope it's not another shooter. I love Infamous one of my favorite series so here's me hoping they make Infamous 3

SmielmaN2688d ago

@naruga.
Gotta disagree there. Infamous series is one of the best on Sony, imo. I could replay that game for hours. I don't typically return to hunt for wverything in a game when I'm done unless its really enjoyable to me. And infamous games had me hooked.

PhoenixUp2689d ago

Cole's story is already over

-Foxtrot2689d ago

I don't know that lightning bolt in the form of a question mark wouldn't be put their for no reason

I like to think Second Son will go off the Evil ending

Delsin is shown to be the real Beast...John being just an outcome of the timeline being changed

Cole is revived to face his Destiny

Trilogy over and we got a good Beast Origin story with Second Son

Darkfist_Flames2689d ago

but Delsin isnt, i want him to lose all his power except smoke and fight powerful conduits.

PhoenixUp2689d ago

Second Son canonically goes with the ending that Cole is dead, but there are still Conduits about.

inFamous at this point has grown past Cole and just demonstrates how different type of people morally adapt to the superpowers they receive

ShadowWolf7122689d ago

One game with a protagonist nowhere near as liked or well-received as Cole does not in any way indicate the franchise has "grown beyond" him.

And honestly, after the way 2 ended, with that bolt... that stuff doesn't happen for no reason. He'll be back.

PhoenixUp2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

You forget the other game, First Light.

They already went with the ending of Cole dying. There's really no reason to continue the story from there

IamTylerDurden12688d ago

Cole is done, but if anything i'd love to play as Kessler in an alternate dystopian future where u recruit two other conduits to help u take on the beast (perhaps Deslin as the beast) and the game would feature 3 player co op.

ziggurcat2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

"... maybe something with Cole to wrap it up as a trilogy..."

uh... they killed off cole at the end of 2... they even reference him in second son in the past tense as though he was dead.

Inzo2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

Not really, SPP left the door open for a return in both Hero and Evil endings.

ziggurcat2689d ago

At any rate, it says it's a new IP, so that right there is enough to tell you it's not a new infamous game.

Why o why2689d ago

You know what, for a second I tought aint they doing the spiderman game.....can they handle 2 big new ips then I remembered it was insomniac that have been given the opportunity to try their hand at an openworld hero game. Sony aint playing this gen. They are going for the jugulars

-Foxtrot2689d ago

I really wish they were given X-Men to do...they'd nail it.

AsunaYuukiTheFlash2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

@Why o why Insomniac is working on the new Spiderman game not SP.

Ceaser98573612688d ago

Asuna
"Insomniac is working on the new Spiderman game not SP"

Hey there, Good morning .. Where have you been all this time. :D

_-EDMIX-_2689d ago

Definitely I'm happy to hear that they're starting a new intellectual property though because it was always hard for me to get into the infamous series.

Don't get me wrong I beat the first game and really liked it I just never really started the second game and a little while ago finished the third with Second Son.

I think another team would probably do fine with Infamous if they get tied up in their new intellectual property.

I mean we still got a Sly Cooper 4

badz1492689d ago

Sly 4 wasn't developed by them though. It was Sanzaru Games but the last I heard about them, Sony isn't tying them to anything 1st party related anymore.

_-EDMIX-_2689d ago

@bad- trust me, I know.

As to why I stated

"I think another team would probably do fine with Infamous if they get tied up in their new intellectual property.

I mean we still got a Sly Cooper 4"

That statement was simply saying that another team would do fine with Infamous simply because another team did pretty good with Sly 4.

I follow the industry pretty closely (too closely lol)

gangsta_red2689d ago

I always wanted Cole to comeback and actually build a team of metas sort of like the Justice League and then fight against other villains with powers.

Silly gameAr2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

That would actually be pretty awesome. Co op play would would work with a team of conduits , where you can actually play as the other conduits instead of just borrowing their powers like in Infamous 2.

Tussin1872689d ago

This is what I like about Sony's 1st party studios. They are now starting/have been producing 2 different IPs per studio. That's how you do it. I have absolutely no clue what they could be working on. I really love the Infamous series and I'm sure whatever they show will be amazing. What they accomplished so close to the PS4 launch was insane.

Imagine what they can do now. And with the PRO on top of that!!!! MIND BLOWN!!! Can't wait.

starchild2688d ago

Yeah, this is music to my ears. I really enjoyed Infamous Second Son and the spin off First Light, but new IPs are always exciting. Looking forward to seeing what it is.

Too bad...I really enjoyed the infamous series

G20WLY2689d ago

This doesn't mean it's over for infamous.

Ceaser98573612688d ago

Hows it bad?? At least SP is doing something new now. Aint that Great.

DigitalRaptor2689d ago

It's going to be a huge E3 this year.

I think Sucker Punch game reveal with either open or close the show.

Ceaser98573612689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

GOW gameplay will open the show and The Last of us 2 gameplay will close the show.. :)

SaveFerris2689d ago

Nice. I can't wait to see what they have been working on. GG with a new IP, and now Sucker Punch. It seems like Sony is letting the studios try something new for this gen.

Stellar Blade has sold more physical copies than Dragon's Dogma 2 in Japan, despite PS5 exclusivity

By the looks of it, PlayStation 5 exclusivity does not hurt the sales of Stellar Blade in Japan as the game has passed 90,000 sold physical copies.

Hugodastrevas17h ago

Stellar Blade really deserves way more praise than it got, devs have been adding more and more content, for free, since release and the game already was great to begin with!

BrettAwesome14h ago

More than it got? It got tons, by everyone except the sad wankers who's idea of a sex life, is pulling on their dicks while watching big fake cgi titties 😂

gerbintosh46m ago

Don't see the difference between cgi titties and fake boobs. Also no difference to wanking it to either one of them since both aren't physically there

Cacabunga14h ago

I think we can safely claim that Stellar Blade 2 is confirmed!
I got it day one, i have some backlog due to RDR2 i just platinumed.. i will get to Stellar Blade in the near future

shinoff218313h ago

Same but I'm hitting yakuza right now. Stellar blade looks cool though.

neutralgamer199212h ago

Capcom really dropped the ball with DG2. They had easy success on their hand but instead with their stupid decisions ruined the games success

Stellar blade is an amazing game and deserves all the success. For all the artificial hate it got from people who had no interest in the game to begin with this shows if you make a good game it will sell. The so called 1st party drought from PlayStation has meant 4 exclusives in 2024 so far. Other companies need to learn how to run a business and plan for the future

H917h ago

Stellar blade is performing very impressively there, DD2 didn't do well because word of mouth destroyed it's reputation and not about the Microtransactions or performance, bad word of mouth about how the game lacks so many things that were in the first one

Redemption-6414h ago

DS2 sold 2.5M in a little over a week, what the hell are you talking about?

H914h ago

"there", that's Japan, this article is about Japan, the bad word of mouth is about Japan

Hereandthere15h ago

Exclusives matter. No matter what bumbling phil and bond try to say, exclusives is why you buy a console.

The_Hooligan12h ago

How dare you speak common sense!!??

jznrpg7h ago

It would if they added a lot more combat and didn’t focus on graphics

XiNatsuDragnel15h ago

Stellar blade is great excited for 2

anast15h ago

They dropped the ball with dogma. SB is a solid game, it just had to weather the social storm.

shinoff218313h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Said that dd2 was missing things the first one did, like mass effect 2? I haven't played it so I'm really asking.

spss1112h ago

I've played both and I have no idea what people say when they claim it's "incomplete". I've only noticed new things in comparison to DD1 (I would give a list but spoilers). Sometimes I wonder if some people actually played DD1 or maybe they remember it differently. Anyways, if you liked the first one and want more of that, you'll probably like DD2.

Sony CEO says although AI "has been used for creation," it's "not a substitute for human creativity"

"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.

...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai1d 4h ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander197219h ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot18h ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander197219h ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

Good statement but hopefully this holds up

NotoriousWhiz18h ago

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay17h ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).

RaiderNation4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Progress is inevitable. Nobody driving cars today is complaining that the horse and buggy is no longer around. Yes, some jobs will be lost but guess what? With innovation comes new job opportunities. It's how the cycle of the job market works.
