Idk about y'all but this is my most anticipated launch/launch window game! I played the hell out of the Wii U version. BEST MARIO KART TO DATE!

eagle212689d ago

Agreed. What an awesomely crafted game. Magic.

deafdani2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

The non-port game is either a new Mario Maker or a new Splatoon. No way it would be Smash, that one will most likely be a supercharged port that has all the modes and stages of the Wii U and 3DS versions, along with all the DLC characters and stages, plus maybe a hopefully a couple new fighters (Ice Climbers, please come back!).

At least that's what I'm hoping.

EddieNX 2689d ago

It'd be easy to make a new Mario maker, just update the tool set and change the backgrounds and music and you have a 'new' game

deafdani2689d ago

Yeah, I agree. Although I'm pretty sure that when Nintendo does make a Mario Maker sequel, the improvements will be pretty extensive. Otherwise, they could just keep patching the original game to add stuff to it (Super Mario Maker in its current state is already on a whole other level compared to what it was at launch... and at launch it was already a pretty damn good game).

Yi-Long2689d ago

Perhaps the new Mario Maker will be a Mario KART Maker, as in the new Switch Mario Kart having a track-building (and sharing) feature included...!?

Or perhaps a 3D Mario maker.

Erik73572689d ago

New splatoon for sure. Nintendo wants some e sport game. They aren't just gonna port splatoon if they want that.

wonderfulmonkeyman2689d ago (Edited 2689d ago )

Smash on Switch better have Smash Run, if it combines content from the previous two versions.
That was easily my most-played side mode outside of vs matches with others. Having it on the big screen would be magnificent.

@Dani
Remember the Adventure Mode levels in Melee, where various baddies from various franchises popped up in small-scale areas you'd run around in, like a Zelda temple where you'd search for the Triforce while fighting off Redeads etc?
That's what Smash Run was like, only bigger, more areas connected together, challenges and conditions popping up at times, and the goal was to gather stat ups like in Kirby's Air Ride.

It's actually really fun.
I guess you could also relate it to Subspace Emissary.

deafdani2689d ago

I'll take your word for it because I never played the 3DS version outside of the demo Nintendo made prior to launch.

_-EDMIX-_2689d ago

I'm actually doubtful that it's a new Splatoon considering we're getting the port of it.

It could however be a new Mario Maker game like you just stated

wonderfulmonkeyman2689d ago

We don't know if the Splatoon we're getting is a port, though.
It could be a sequel.

_-EDMIX-_2689d ago

I thought it was already confirmed to be that.

Only looking back at older comments that I realize that they never confirmed what it was

Errrr that's actually still a port adding new features to a remaster doesn't make it anything else.

I mean it doesn't take away that it is still actually a port

TenkoTAiLS2689d ago

Im looking forward to this presentation for not only the obvious reasons, but because it will possibly be the last of Ms Rogers constant stream of "insider info". Most of her previous "leaks" were vague things most people had guessed by the time of the teaser trailer anyway, so it will be interesting to see if her more detailed "leaks" on the games etc hold true during the presentation.

If PAL territories get Zelda on time, if the Switch is $250, if Square does have multiplatform games etc etc then get "info" was always just educated guessing and full of hot air.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake43d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The Next Mario Kart Desperately Needs A Good Gimmick

Mario Kart 8 has been out for nine years now if you include the Wii U version. Despite the Switch port continuing to sell insane numbers since it came out in 2017, many people believed that a new installment was way past due. When the Booster Course Pass was announced instead, it was a bit controversial, with one side of people stating that it was time for a new game, and the other side believing that this was the best course of action and that there's nothing else Nintendo can do to innovate the franchise.

There's nothing wrong with the games, but after most of them being very samey, I got a bit bored. I liked MKDS because it added a mission mode, yeah it didn't have maybe as many as I'd like but it was decent for variety.

I really prefer the new Mario Party for the different types of games in it.

Mario Kart doesn't really feel fresh because you know what to expect for every new game pretty much. The single player mode of DKR was far more in depth a game vs Mario Kart IMO, MK is probably better for multiplayer though.

-Foxtrot341d ago

It needs a campaign mode like Crash Team Racing with open hubs, driving around the Mushroom Kingdom, selecting your races and the like. Have a system like the CTR tokens within the races that then unlock secret racing cups later on or the time relics to unlock other things.

There's nothing wrong with the games but when you've had the same set up for so many games it just gets a bit samey after a while.

They could even have something like a track creator like Modnation Racers or something.

Neonridr340d ago

I always enjoyed the single player aspect of Diddy Kong Racing myself.

Knushwood Butt341d ago

After starting with the first game on SNES, I think the last one I bought was on the DS.

Phlacky340d ago (Edited 340d ago )

I think the next gimmick should be interactive tracks with obstacles and traps such as maybe throwing a shell ahead to make something fall on another player Also have water and mud parts that effect handling more also fire parts that can cause you to over heat if you stay in it to long etc...

Yi-Long340d ago (Edited 340d ago )

I don’t think it needs ‘a gimmick’ so much, because gameplay is pretty much perfect right now, but I would like the next Mario Kart to do either a ‘track-builder’ thing, so you just get access to the tools and make your own tracks (think Modnation Racers or LBP Karting), and/or expand upon ‘Mario’ Kart and open it up to the rest of Nintendo IPs, and just do a ‘Nintendo Kart’, so we’d see more of Zelda, but also Starfox, Kirby, Metroid, Valkyria Chronicles*, etc.

* I know, technically not ‘Nintendo’.
