TimeSplitters Rewind ‘Still in Development’ Despite Doubts Over Crytek’s Future; Team Under NDA

Amidst speculation over the future of the project following the closure of several of Crytek's studios, TimeSplitters Rewind developer Josh Nuttall has confirmed that "the game is still under development".

Stinks for those developers working at those studios losing their jobs. I hope they will find something quick.

I don't know what happened with Crytek, but it's not good when you have to close studios. Hopefully they will make smart decisions and stay afloat.

Oh man i remember just playing hours of Timesplitters 2 on PS2 with the multi tap.
That, Red Faction and Urban Reign.......puff puff pass.

Free Radical Design (Crytek UK) made the originals but we're disbanded a few years ago.
I'm not sure another Crytek subsidiary can match the experience (they don't seem to share information very readily at Crytek lately).

I hope I'm wrong, I loved the originals.

You mean that fan game being made by people who actively stream them ripping textures illegally online? The same one that's moved over to Unreal Engine 4 without informing CryTek? Who is comprised of a team of people who have never shipped a product in their lives and pretend they are industry veterans? Yeah, I haven't cared about this project in a long time. No idea why it still gets media attention.

No, it is being steered quite firmly by Crytek these days and is being developed on CryEngine;

"Nuttall was able to confirm that Rewind had undergone a number of programmatic and personnel changes behind the scenes in recent months, apparently brought on by Crytek’s direct involvement with the title. He explained: “We had to make changes to suit Crytek’s needs; a lot of the team didn’t agree with the changes and left."

It seems Crytek moved in, made changes and said goodbye to those inexperienced coders you mentioned.

It's a bit mean really, they refused to make the game, allowed a team of fans to go ahead and build it, then jumped in and took over whilst completely rewriting the code;

"The changes were massive; it caused a whole fresh start for all the programming side ".

I wouldn't believe everything you've read. Reading the article, it's all essentially hear-say. The last I heard and saw, it was in Unreal Engine 4 (without Crytek's knowledge). Changing engines to a new engine then back again is stupid but possible. Moreso, it's highly improbable.

I don't understand why Crytek would get involved with a fan project. Pretty sure they'd just start a similar project on their own without having to deal with any legal issues of previously created assets from developers who have left the project / all that stuff.

The whole situation stinks, reeks even. At this point in time, nobody actually knows (verifyably) what the hell is going on and what direction this project is going in.

If Crytek have taken the reigns, they might as well start again - the amount of stolen content in the previous build I saw was enough to make your eyes water.

Don't even get me started about how the "first" iteration of the project had a map designer who'd design the maps in Google Sketchup. The whole thing is a mess.

Yeah they gave permission... Years ago. before they switched engines to Unreal Engine 4.
