IGN's 2016 Game of the Year revealed, along with the year's other best games!

IGN users picked Uncharted 4 as GOTY, same as the Gamespot ones, whereas both IGN and GS chose Overwatch as GOTY. Gamers still very much appreciate and love story based SP campaigns, even if the media try and push that a multiplayer only game is more deserving.

Overwatch came second in the user polls... So it's not that big a deal.

Nothing wrong with an online only game winning game of the year. I don't think Overwatch is anywhere near good enough for it, but I wouldn't complain if Bad Company 2 won game of the year in 2010 for example (Sure it had a mediocre campaign, but that gets forgotten way faster than its online.)

For me Uncharted 4 is GOTY hands down! and I don't think Overwatch was a real GOTY contender, however I need to address the fact that Overwatch was the best online shooter to come out in years. It's nice to see a breath of fresh air in a stale genre.

It is not about coming second, it is about the wide margin in the votes between the first and second places. That's what stands out.

To respond to the PM: It's an aging article, so I'd rather have talked by PM. But sure whatever.

What part don't you get? Just because Uncharted has the most user votes, doesn't mean outlets should be forced to give it game of the year. It sounds like you're claiming there's a huge divide between places like IGN and regular gamers...

...But that's a huge statement considering Overwatch is the second most popular user voted game. Not to mention Uncharted's still getting tons of critic awards. It just so happens Overwatch is obviously well liked too.

There's no reason multiplayer centric games can't win. Having a story doesn't automatically make a game better than one without.

in the end the one that matters is the people's choice as we are the one's who the games are intended for, and the people chose UC4 which absolutely deserved it

Fckin morons. Best scored game of 2016 and it does not win GOTY from them. Fckin Overhype. They shit about star wars for not havin campaign, titanfall did not have campaign, but with Overhype that is fine

As expected, raging PS4 fans complaining that their favourite game didn't win. Like it's some sort of crime that they like something else more.

If it makes you feel better, Uncharted 4 currently has around 30 more awards than Overwatch.

I don't think many people would have complained about Titanfall and Star Wars, if they had more content.
Star Wars had a handful of maps at launch with barely any variety in how you could play it. Compared to Battlefront 2, it had very limited gameplay.
Titanfall was critically very well received, but an online only game needs to do more than it did. It needed extra things like clan systems, cosmetic Titan customization, and for all new maps to be added for free as soon as they were out. It was too barebones, and a campaign wouldn't have solved that.

I agree that Overwatch isn't exactly game of the year material, but it's going to have a ton of free content consistently added, as has been going on since launch. So even though at launch it was lacking, everyone knew Blizzard would support it. That's probably the difference: Overwatch will get tons of free support, and those games either made people pay for maps, or made them free too late.

Their choices for 10-7 were rather... interesting.

I think Ratchet and Clank should probably get a bit more recognition. I personally preferred it over Uncharted 4, it should have been considered for the action game category.
