So PSVR will most likely continue to be the cheapest VR meant for gaming.

Actually Samsung's Gear VR is thw cheapest at $99 lol.

maybelovehate2685d ago

Google Cardboard is like free haha

thehitman13982685d ago

No just no. It may have VR slapped on the box and yes it tracks which way ur head turns, but that is not vr. Ik, Cuz I have both samsung vr and Playstation vr so I can speak from experience

PsVr requires a Ps4

blanka45452685d ago

yup Samsung is the cheapest true that!

ALL VR needs three important features to overcome the hurdles: It needs to be Wireless, Have Eye tracking and better AAA dedicated content and perhaps better porn(i just felt like putting that up).

thehitman13982685d ago

Yes that is very true. I would pay extra to have wireless Playstation vr. It's so comfortable and u get lost n the games n not having cords would be amazing. Is it a must have to play vr, no but it would definitely be a huge plus!!

Hey maybe that's what they could call it, Playstation vr plus !!!

poppinslops2685d ago

Porn matters... amazes me that Sony have all but banned it from their platform, despite 'Summer Lesson' - which is basically a sex-offender sim - being the best-selling PSVR game in Japan.

Either way, I agree that VR still has a ways to go before it'll be seen as a mainstream device... Devs NEED to solve the various problems associated with first-person locomotion, as well as providing a means for players to communicate with in-game characters - even simple 'yes/no' voice commands would offer a more immersive experience.

Personally, I'm hoping Scorpio uses Kinect as it's VR camera - it's in-built systems for voice-commands, gestures and full-body tracking could save devs a lot of time and money.

Lonnie182685d ago

I wonder how Google's Daydream will be?

2685d ago
EverydayJoe2685d ago

I have never thought to myself "this could be so great but these damn wires just kill it". I would personally rather have it wired and Sony invest that energy into games that push the platform futher.

So VR seems to be admitted even by the current CEO as gimmicky at the moment

"A lot of improvement" yes indeed

JackBNimble2685d ago

I don't recall him saying vr is a gimmick at all.

IamTylerDurden12685d ago

PSVR is awesome, but the biggest problem is that it has been sold out since launch bc Sony can't manufacture the OLED screens. Sony is killing their device. I don't understand why they are having such manufacturing problems? It would've sold at least double had it been available this holiday. The killer app (RE7) is launching in a few weeks and ppl won't even be able to purchase the headset. Sony is literally blowing right now, and as a VR enthusiast it actually sickens me.

My wealthy cousin was locked and loaded, ready to buy a PSVR, Pro, and racing wheel prior to Christmas, but it just wasn't available and Ebay prices were exorbitant.

IamTylerDurden12685d ago

Anyone who disagrees at least have the stones to state why. PSVR IS sold out, it has been for months, it is not a myth.

G20WLY2684d ago

I, for one, have no idea why you're getting disagrees. Not a clue. They can't sell what's not on the shelves.

TankCrossing2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

You could at least have the courtesy to point your cousin in the right direction and suggest he spends his wealth on a PC setup if he wants to play racing games in VR. What was he gonna play with all that gear, Drive Club? :-/

IamTylerDurden12684d ago

Tankcrossing,

Yes, Driveclub. It's fantastic with a wheel in PSVR. DC VR is phenomenal, plus Dirt Rally is coming, plus GT Sport. Also, he wanted something that was easy to use, setup, and understand. It's for his kids as well. For him to drop a grand on the PSVR setup was reasonable, but i doubt he wanted to spend 2,500 on a Vive or Rift setup. Plus, PSVR has better exclusives.

TankCrossing2684d ago

Poor guy. He could have spent the Christmas holidays playing Dirt Rally, Project Cars, Asseto Corsa or iRacing, which it sounds like he'd absolutely love. Instead he and his family ended up with nothing all because you just can't bring yourself to discuss other options in a positive light. Shame on you!

Whatever2342683d ago

Sorry but u r full of shit .DC vr sucks .The ai is none existing .My son blew his own money on it.Ended up selling it all 2 months later,vr that is.

That's good to hear that Sony will continue supporting PSVR.

Apex132685d ago

Well it's only a few months old so if they gave up on it now what would it be saying! 😂

Gazondaily2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

So new PSVR version inbound? Perhaps it's better to hold off until better versions are out?

TankCrossing2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

Sounds like he's just talking about minor refinements, not changes to the functionality. A PSVR Slim, but without the slimming down (because it still needs to fit a human head).

Wait if cables are likely to bother you, otherwise get in there.

Just don't forget to pick up the correct scented candles to enhance the experience.

The quote is "I would say that generally speaking there’s probably a lot of improvement where it makes sense", because "PlayStation is a business that is known to iterate and to evolve hardware products."

That's a far cry from PlayStation VR *needs* "a lot of improvement"

freshslicepizza2686d ago

i would wait until the hardware can match the performance of the console. not sure i would want to pay more than the copnsole for something that has drawbacks like lower resolution and consessions like we see in games like driveclub

TankCrossing2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

You'll be waiting forever. VR is stereoscopic and high frame rate, there will always be some overhead to achieve it.

Unless you are hoping that devs stop trying to maximise the potential of the consoles when using traditional screens in order to keep the visuals on a par with the more taxing VR versions?

ApocalypseShadow2685d ago

Don't worry tank, he's just talking out of his "you know what " as usual in a PlayStation article. If oculus end up supporting Scorpio, it will be a VR unit that costs more than the hardware. Like on PC with both units costing more than the graphics cards.Does Vive and oculus give high resolution at 4K? Nope. Those companies made concessions too.

Just ask him to provide a link where Sony said all games going forward will be fully VR compatible. He thinks somehow current systems should produce twice the power for two images and still be cheap to buy. He might say we should wait until VR is ready to provide that. But even that future system or PC will require more power to produce those visuals like dual graphics chips or cards.

As for what Kaz is saying, they will most likely improve the cabling as there are many and refine the headset to make it cheaper but still quality. As Sony has refined their game systems, the same will happen to the PSVR. Examples being PS1, PS2,PS3 and PS4 slims.

freshslicepizza2685d ago

@Apocalypse Shadow

of course they did but the pc is scalable and sony will not allow exclusive games for the pro which limits its effectiveness that now has to cater to the lesser powerful ps4.

"Just ask him to provide a link where Sony said all games going forward will be fully VR compatible."

show me where i said this? i questioned why certain games like gt sport are giving half measures but again you dodge and deflect and then when you are stumped for an answer you dont answer.

"He thinks somehow current systems should produce twice the power for two images and still be cheap to buy. He might say we should wait until VR is ready to provide that. But even that future system or PC will require more power to produce those visuals like dual graphics chips or cards."

not what i said, i said ps4 pro owners are being held back because of the regular ps4.

Sparta072685d ago

@saltybread, But why did you buy an Xboxone if it has drawbacks and lower resolution then the competition!?
If power matters so much to you why would you buy the Xboxone for?
You on every Sony article about the some thing. Spreading lies and BS.
Sony said from the beginning no exclusive games for the PRO!!!!
The PRO is not a PS5 is just an PS4.5. Why burn over 50million owners for? Stupidest thing they can ever do. The PRO is just for console owners that want the best graphics on a console specially if you have a 4K tv.

IamTylerDurden12684d ago

Driveclub VR is amazing bc of how it plays and feels in VR. Weren't u one of the guys shouting how resolution wasn't important this gen?

Aenea2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

Better hold off on that Scorpio because there will be another Xbox coming after it! Don't buy the PS4 Pro since a PS5 is coming! Don't buy the PS5 since a PS5 Pro will be coming, etc., etc.!

It could take 3 to 6 years before the next one releases, I don't see a point in waiting, because when PSVR2 hits they will start work on PSVR3.........

I do think a PSVR2 will release around the same time (or shortly thereafter) as the PS5 is released. It probably will have 2 OLED screens with a 1440p resolution and all the GPU tricks that are now also in the PS4 Pro are then also in the PS5. They will add foveated rendering, they might add eye tracking and they most definitely will introduce a new camera which will contain the tech of SoftKinetic, a company that Sony bought in 2015 which can do full body tracking. No more Move controllers needed...

freshslicepizza2685d ago

there is a point in waiting when you are expected to pay more than the console for a peripheral that developers dont want to fully commit to. the questionm about power is how developers need to accomodate the regular ps4 which already struggles to get games ruinning at 60fps. so how do you expect developers to make aaa games for it when they have to consider the original ps4 and the fact psvr came out midcycle? if scorpio supports oculus then it doesn't matter when scorpio has come out, you can still use it on the pc.

2685d ago
Irishguy952685d ago

Maybe I should wait a Ps4 Elite model, with 3 times the power of Ps4 Pro.

Sparta072685d ago

@septic, this is his quote "I would say that generally speaking there’s probably a lot of improvement where it makes sense", because "PlayStation is a business that is known to iterate and to evolve hardware products."
where in the hell does it say anything about a new psvr!?

Tctczach2685d ago

"PlayStation is a business that is known to iterate and to evolve hardware products." This means the first version of this will be useless in the next 2-3 years probably. He would have talked about updating the software otherwise.

MRMagoo1232685d ago

😂septic with the concern trolling again ......... don't even try to say you aren't tho considering the quotes don't even come close to mentioning a new headset coming soon.

nice to see you rampant fanboys still fighting the "good" fight with that nut job rookie that has nothing better to do than make alternative accounts all day on n4g.

Gazondaily2685d ago

Oh Mr Magoo. I see you .

I'm just saying, if a new PSVR headset is due soon or improved then it'll be best to wait especially for some heavy hitting titles.

Should we be in any rush to get PSVR?

OB1Biker2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

Spot on man
I also wonder which other alt acc rookie still has here. It's unbelievable how many acc he actually had.
Or was Rookie an alt acc actually?

Liqu1d2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

Perhaps it's better you actually try VR before acting like you know what you're talking about.

You always have an excuse Septic.

Gazondaily2685d ago

Because waiting on 'improvements' is a bad thing. I'm in no mad rush to try VR until some killer app must have titles are out. I know that hurts some people who can't fathom people not mindlessly buying a product day one.

IamTylerDurden12685d ago

Yea, just keep waiting...In ten years imagine how good VR will be? And you will never have experienced it. RE7 in a couple weeks on PSVR for me though.

Gazondaily2685d ago

Yes because I said I'd wait for 10 years...

What you and I consider good games vary. So don't be upset that I'm waiting for a proper killer app

the ps4 slim and pro, various versions of the ps3 and psp, and people are surprised that a new vr model is incoming? a......dirrrrrrrrrrrrr

gangsta_red2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

"...and why they're holding back sales figures."

Wow, the answer for that question was superb PR ninja, Hattori Hanzō style.

So no numbers released, does this mean the PSVR failed to meet Sony's expectations?

Chevalier2685d ago

Wow Gangsta with his Possy Septic and Moldy already infecting the article when they have no interest at all, just need Krib and if will be a party.

Want to ask about numbers but support MS who give NONE, then come into articles involving PS4 and acting concerned. Shocker.

gangsta_red2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

Well I keep getting beat over the head about numbers, sales and "MS should release numbers". By the way I never asked about the numbers.

No concern at all really, I always thought VR was a gimmick and with no real compelling hardware I wondered what was the appeal besides the initial wow factor for the first ten minutes.

Now que the "never played it", "never tried it" and other comments.

"just need Krib and if will be a party."

Add Rookie and the other Gangstas and it will be.

Kribwalker2685d ago

I'm here what'd I miss?

""One of the reasons we're not talking about the numbers so much is because we don't want the numbers to take a life of their own."

Gangsta is right, that is some serious ninja PR

Sunny_D2685d ago

Wrong. Sony expected the figures to be in the hundreds of thousands. The PSVR had met their demands so far as they have sold between 750000-1000000 units.

http://www.roadtovr.com/son...

Kribwalker2685d ago

Please, link me where Sony announced 750-1,000,000 units?

In the last 3 years there have been 4 items Sony has not released numbers on.

The PS3 after it hit 80 million a month after the 360

The PSvita

The PS4 Pro

And PSVR

Yet they trumpet 6.2 million PS4 sales over the holidays....something doesn't add up

Kribwalker2685d ago

The only spot there has been any figures for PSVR anywhere, have been a analyst, lowering their estimates for PSVR sales from 2.6million by the end of 2016, to less then 750k by the end of 2016....

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

Majin-vegeta2685d ago

It's outsold both Vive&oculus combined...

andibandit2684d ago

Says more about the price, complexity and niche of vive and occulus. In my eyes vive and occulus have sold terribly, so telling us sales are better then 2*terrible does nothing

JackBNimble2685d ago

Psvr has been out 3 months, psvr2 ain't going to happen any time soon.

Sparta072685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

It's been sold out and even though it's been sold out it still managed to outsell the two competitors.
So I highly doubt it failed to meet sony's expectations.🤗

But sure let's just ignore FACTS. 😬

@kribsalter, give it a rest already.
We know how much it sold and it sold more then Xboxone. What were the Xboxone sales numbers again? 🤔

gangsta_red2684d ago

What facts? There are no numbers to release and we don't know what Sony actually expected to sell.

If there's no doubt then why aren't Sony celebrating the success of PSVR? I mean these are the questions we also ask Microsoft when they withhold the numbers for Xbox.

Or should we not focus on numbers because they might take a life of their own?

Xbox President Sarah Bond's Bloomberg Interview Is Corporate Fakery At Its Best

Saad from eXputer: "After Arkane Austin & Tango were shutdown, Xbox President Sarah Bond spoke with Bloomberg in what I believe to be utter corporate fakery."

im not really surprised by that, shes always been more a "let me talk about something else than what u want to know" kinda gal

Cacabunga19h ago

If what they are doing is that good, what’s the point of hiding the true story?

anast23h ago

She's a caricature of the shareholders.

PRIMORDUS21h ago

"Shareholders" I call them cancer, they are already rich to begin with but need more and more. It's like a disease, with no cure.

__y2jb5h ago

If you have a pension then you are likely to be a shareholder in these big tech companies yourself. To demonize them as 'heartless rich people' shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

anast4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

@Y2

Of course, it isn't about that. You are attempting to set up a self-righteous strawman to stir up some kind of ignorant mob mentality.

And by the way, most everyone is a touch heartless or we wouldn't be able to consume the products we do knowing very well how they are made. People have to be this way because of self-preservation and convenience.

__y2jb1h ago

@anast please explain to me how what i said is self righteous or a strawman. I simply pointed out that categorizing all shareholders as cancer is ridiculous.

Leeroyw19h ago

I own shares in game companies. I'm not anything near a major share holder. I just want them to make good games and be successful because of that. I think it's the senior management that's the problem. They are the ones that should be making it clear to the shareholders what creates growth and ensures a future of their business. Not this weasle words garbage that she did on the interview. It was horrific. I don't know a shareholder that would be happy with any of them for this.

Profchaos18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Same and I'm not rich by any stretch like most people's I'm just trying to keep my head above water these days most company's shareholders are made up of everyday people it's amazing how companies think we want something but the reality is we don't.

Disney are probably the worse at the moment it's shareholders voted on ending a lot of the crap and outing the current execs the execs turned around and said no we disagree with the shareholder vote

PRIMORDUS13h ago

I meant at the rich fucks who have millions in the bank already. They are making so much per year, that if they don't make what they are expecting they go into a panic, when in reality it will not even hurt them at all. Those are greedy assholes.

anast4h ago

"you have a pension then you are likely to be a shareholder"

Pensioners don't make any decisions about anything. Obviously that is not what this is about.

CrimsonWing6923h ago

Yea, it was and it’s insulting that they think we’re dumb enough to fall for this. Look, the truth was you took a gamble on these studios and while they released some games to critical praise and great reception they just aren’t bringing in a ROI. Be transparent, you’re not a politician.

Just tell everyone you spend money on projects big and small and when money isn’t being made you go over the potential of revenue a studio can bring in vs those that can’t and make the hard decision to chop them.

She says this whole thing about “success” doesn’t fit one meaning for each studio. Well yea, a small budget production isn’t going to expect to sell the same as a large budget production.

One thing I wish they did though was let Tango be an independent studio.

TheGamingHounds23h ago

disheartening to see no regard for the human cost of business anymore

these fake responses are just salt on wounds

XCOM 2 Director Says He's Never Seen Such "Horrific Layoffs" In His 25 Years In The Industry

Firaxis veteran Jake Solomon hasn't seen mass layoffs like this in his whole 25-year career.

CrimsonWing691d ago

Alot’s changed in 25 years. We have games with $300 mill budgets, people not interested in games other than Fortnite and Minecraft, the older generation of gamers giving up the hobby or dying off, a period of super bad inflation where the industry decided to hike up prices on games, Gamepass harming game sales, GaaS games being pushed left and right with obnoxious monetization and worse looking/playing (Suicide Squad vs Arkham Knight).

The industry is just shite right now. Games ain’t selling, games cost massive amounts, businesses can’t bleed money and this is what happens. Part of it is on them and part of it is on consumers not buying.

Yi-Long13h ago

Consumers ain't buying because of what they're selling; There is no new SSX or Burnout, everything is now Online Required, everything is 'service', etc.

Indies are still delivering the goods, perhaps even better than ever, because those are often the guys and gals who know what they want to make and just make that and hopefully we dig it as well and support it ...

... but when you look at those multi-million budget AAA games, are they improving on what we have had before? Is the new Forza Motorsport better than a Forza Mototsport 4? Is Halo Infinite better than Halo 3? Is Dragon Age 2 such a huge improvement over the first Dragon Age? Etcetc.

Yeah, graphics have gotten better, worlds have gotten better, but I think a gaming generations stands or falls with diversity and experiences, and a few gens ago we had access to whatever we wanted, so if we wanted a boxing game we picked up one of the boxing games, if we wanted snowboarding we'd pick up one of the snowboarding games, if we wanted to do a rythm game we had DJ Hero, or Guitar Hero, or Rockband. If we wanted to sneak around we had Splinter Cell or MGS or whatever.

We had variety and we had options, and that makes or breaks a generation, imo. You're in a foodcourt of games and they're serving all kinds of different cuisines, and so you'd pick and choose whatever you felt like that day.

Right now, you're in a restaurant, and you're only allowed to pick from one menu, and there's a dress-code, and you have to register, and you have to stay in your seat, etc etc.
