Cheap wins the day. Who would have thought?

Errorist762684d ago (Edited 2683d ago )

Guess in a year or so you'll praise an even cheaper solution.

Why is anyone even reacting to this...it's a crap estimation by SuperData and this news is weeks old. Those are the idiots who estimated 2.3 million a while back.

Weit for official numbers.

UCForce2684d ago

More than a cheap. It's comfortable to wear and easy to use, not worry about upgrades.

Unspoken2684d ago

I would have already done that with pseudo VR in phones. No?

Aloy-Boyfriend2684d ago

If PS VR lost you would be saying it did because it was the cheapest POS bla bla bla

No win with you guys. Stay salty

darthv722684d ago

After watching angry joe play the xwing vr it makes me anxious for a return of xwing vs tie fighter.

Or hopefully a full on battlestar galactica game. Piloting a viper or raider would be sweet in vr. A return of the wing commander series would be sweet too.

XanderZane2683d ago

Yeah, it was pretty much a given, considering how much cheaper it was. Still, we'll see if the sales continue to stay strong after a year.

MagicBeanz2683d ago

People will pay good money for something they think is worth it, guess the other choices just weren't.

UCForce2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

And also, Sony did said that they would expect about a hundreds of thousand units. So yeah, 745.000 units is what they expected.

Edit : @Erroist76 Already fixed my grammar. Sorry about that.

MasterCornholio2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

Well they said several hundred thousand. So these numbers fit with their predictions.

@UC

Yeah but superdata isn't Sony.

UCForce2684d ago

Super data predicted it way too high back in march.

Errorist762684d ago (Edited 2683d ago )

They said hundreds of thousands, not a hundred thousand.

Btw

Why is anyone even reacting to this...it's a crap estimation by SuperData and this news is weeks old. Those are the idiots who estimated 2.3 million a while back.

Weit for official numbers.

VforVideogames2684d ago

Sony predicted 2.5 million by the end of 2016 so that means is DOA
?

MasterCornholio2684d ago

Sony didn't make that prediction. Sony predicted that they would sell several hundred thousand by the end of 2016.

Errorist762683d ago

But they didn't. How could they if each and every headset is sold out atm?!

mkis0072683d ago

The little people are getting analyst forecasts mixed up with sonys expections.

Nice win Samsung. Bringing VR to the masses.

Krangs_Uncle2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

But who is bringing VR to the masses with regards to the console and higher end gaming market?

Nice dig, I can see this news hurts you.

Essentially what was being called a 'gimmick', has now become something else.. It has sold this much even with being out of stock for a long time in multiple regions.

Next year will be interesting, and so will your comments.. Stay classy.

Gazondaily2684d ago

How dare he congratulate anyone other than Sony?! 😠

andibandit2684d ago

"Essentially what was being called a 'gimmick', has now become something else.. "

This has been a debate in VR for years, please enlighten us where in this half page article you saw the light?.

freshslicepizza2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

when they sell about 10 million i dont expect it to get much full aaa support. so until then i expect more smaller funded vr only games and aaa games with limited vr support.

you kind of need some big games to push vr into the mainstream though. valve could do it on vive if they made half life 3 in vr.

Artemidorus2684d ago

It's still a gimmck, the Wii sold bucket loads but still ended up in everyones attics or basements collecting dust.

2017 will prove VR will go down less interesting unless they make a VR pro which I cannot see happening.

2cents2684d ago

But Who is bringing VR to the masses you ask?
Sony to some extent, but that title would go to Oculus with their Samsung partnership on Gear VR and the the high end Oculus with touch, would it not?

The PSVR is a good choice, but don't forget who started this whole VR movement. No need to throw a wobbly over it.

UCForce2684d ago

Oh really, @Artemidorus ?

Krangs_Uncle2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

If he was sincerely congratulating Samsung then fair enough.. I however am not that naive and it just seems to be attempt to have a dig at Sony.

@andibandit

I don't need to read this article to 'see the light'.. you only have to look at sales to know that it isn't a gimmick.. It's outsold the Rift and Vive COMBINED in a matter of 2 months..

@moldy

Is Resident Evil 7 not a big game to push VR? this is releasing within 3 months of PSVR release, so I only expect more in the future.

@Artermidorus

People like you never seem to be calling it a gimmick in Rift and Vive articles - funny that.

@2cents

I guess you didn't read my comment or are just claiming ignorance - I said with regards to the console and higher end gaming market. I respect what Samsung and Oculus have done, in fact all of them.. PSVR has just brought out the first console based VR, outsold Rift and Vive combined, and has made VR much more accessible - that is bringing it to the masses with regards to the demographic we are discussing.

No doubt you will all be singing praises when Scorpio brings out a competitor.. Until then carry on.

kevnb2684d ago

nobody really, htc and facebook have split the high end pc market for vr and sony has the playstation fans who buy everything playstation. Its pretty sad how sony cant do better actually, htc and occulus have almost no retail presence compared to ps vr that can be found everywhere.

BizarroUltraman2684d ago

Gear VR is pushing VR! Alot of people have Samsung phones and using Gear VR makes them curious to see what the high end headset are like. So have some respect for Samsung which 2.3 million aint to shabby...

Low end VR..Hahaha

Isn't that what the enthusiasts crowd call PSVR hahaha

freshslicepizza2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

@Krangs_Uncle
"Is Resident Evil 7 not a big game to push VR? this is releasing within 3 months of PSVR release, so I only expect more in the future. "

the thing is there is too much sacrifices involved when psvr is applied. we seen it in dricveclub and various other games so who is going to make vr games if they have to make serious concessions? i never said there wont be, i said it wont get much. another problem is the ps4 pro wont be getting any exclusives so they need to make psvr games for the ps4 and that has less power. which is why many games like gt sport have selected areas for psvr support, not the full game. polyphony wants to impress us visually and if the full game had psvr support it would not be as visually impressive. you will see, the psvr section will likely have less detail and maybe less cars like driveclub. resident evil 7's graphics have also taken a hit as well compared to other games we see.

http://www.theverge.com/201...

"But Resident Evil 7 still doesn't really feel like a VR game. A Capcom developer I spoke to said he doesn't expect people to play it in VR for hours on end — it's more like an extra option. That's fair enough, and I rarely play any single game for hours on end myself these days, let alone in VR. It's just that the VR mode is a straight translation of the regular game, and there's little about it that feels built specifically for Sony's hardware. You're sacrificing something, too — Resident Evil 7 isn't a bad-looking game, but current VR builds make it look like it was released in the early days of the PlayStation 3. Maybe Sony's PS4 Pro could improve this, but the majority of PS VR owners are unlikely to be blown away by Resident Evil 7 on a visual level."

Errorist762684d ago

Moldy brain talking out of his a** as usual.

The game looks great on normal PS4 with PSVR already. You'd know if you had tried instead of pathetically trolling around here.

Hendog19812683d ago

Lol what news? That Samsung is doing more for VR than any other company?

There is more to VR than gaming and for you to let your pathetic fanboy flag fly shows what kind of person you are.

andrewsquall2683d ago

@moldybread The Scorpio is coming and it will have to share its games and POTENTIAL with the launch Xbone. So please don't bring up devs having to make concessions.
Its already been shown that Xbone can't even run Resident Evil 7 at a high resolution of the dynamic scaler, and this is a game that is most certainly being dumbed down for 60fps and PS VR usage.

Krangs_Uncle2683d ago

@Hendog1981

This has all kind of backfired on you hasn't it? People are seeing who the real fanboy is here, and you're not fooling anyone.. Try again.

Immorals2684d ago

They have been giving them away with phones, one way to do it!

BizarroUltraman2684d ago

It's not like that all the time. Only special promotions.

But did you stop and think that Gear VR is only $99 with the prior gen model going for less that $60 in some places.
I think many can afford that!a

Razzer2684d ago

Yeah....I got one when I bought my Galaxy S7. Didn't even ask for it. They just handed it to me.

Tried it once. lol....no thanks. But I'm not interested in VR at all, frankly. PS VR. Gear. any of it.

uth112684d ago

Don't forget the Samsung units are often given away with new phones. So 2.3mill shipped is part of that. I wonder how many of that were actually sold

BizarroUltraman2684d ago

Plenty were sold as well. It's only $99. You guys always think that if something is out selling anything Playstation, they must be Free! Lol

Razzer2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

Nope.....just when it actually is free.

Free in February with S7 preorder:
https://www.cnet.com/news/p...

Free in June with S5, S6, S7, or Note purchase:
http://www.digitaltrends.co...

Free in October with S7 purchase..
http://www.digitaltrends.co...

Free in November with S7 purchase..
http://www.techtimes.com/ar...

So yeah. Samsung has shipped a lot of free Gear VR.

uth112684d ago

I was in GameStop last night and a woman inquired about the trade-in value for the gear VR because she got one free and never used it.

She was told they'd give her only $5!

That doesn't sound like a device with much demand

Why o why2684d ago

Guns dont kill people Facts do

Unspoken2684d ago

Nice, so Samsung is able to recoup the costs via cell phone sales. Imagine that. Smart company if you ask me.

Hmmmm I thought this was going to fail?... all the experts here at N4G with their doom and gloom forcasts....LOL

kevnb2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

it looks well on its way to failure actually, sony is already starting to show signs of not supporting it very much.

G20WLY2684d ago

What signs are these? This is the first holiday season and they're restocking in January. They're still updating with new features - only yesterday, for example, it was confirmed that the PS4 YouTube app (with 60fps, incidentally..) now supports 360 degree VR videos through PSVR - and announcing new games every week. They're releasing new games weekly too.

Not saying you're wrong, but I'm just not seeing these signs.

Aenea2684d ago

Wishful thinking huh?

Errorist762684d ago (Edited 2683d ago )

What the hell are you even brabbling about?! There have been so many good games in the first two months already other platform (even non-VR ones ;) would be happy to get those in a whole year.

King_Lothric2684d ago

Where are those PSVR haters now? Are they going to apologize and accept they were wrong? Of course not. Is very easy to write negative comments about something but non of them have the balls to accept they were wrong! Is hard when you have to eat your own $hit.

TankCrossing2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

Wrong about what?

I'm no PSVR or VR hater, but it's got a long way to go to prove anything yet in commercial terms.

Aloy-Boyfriend2684d ago

Wrong about what? Now nobody said anything prior launch...

Lol

TankCrossing2684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

I never said people haven't been dismissive or negative. Of course some people have said things prior to launch, and continue to say things now.

I asked what has been proven wrong by these sales figures. I'm a massive fan of VR and firmly believe it has a bright future, I just think it's way too early to shout "I told you so!" based on these numbers. It has a long long way to go.

MRMagoo1232683d ago

I have to agree it is way too early to shout victory as much as I want VR to be taken up mainstream it's still a while off that yet but ..........so far so good ! things are looking bright 😊

PSVR2 Firmware Update Shows Early Signs of PC Support via Cable Connection

Recent findings in the latest PSVR2 software update, indicates that PlayStation is already starting to implement support for PC.

Garethvk39d ago

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

mariopasta39d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts39d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos39d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts39d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa39d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
