Platinum Has Outdone Themselves With Nier: Automata

A demo for Nier Automata has hit PSN and the sequel to the 2010 cult hit plays amazing and shows just what the guys over at PlatinumGames can do.

Holy crap I was absolutely blown away by this demo! This went from not being on my radar to an instant buy in March. And B2 has replaced Bayonetta as my new crush, damn she is so cool. It just goes to show that when done right Japanese games eclipse western counterparts.

Gameplay wise fromsoftware and Platinum games are top tier. And they have Yoko Taro this time around for NieR:Automata, the story should also be good.

I think he is just compensation for all these comments over the years that Japanese devs can't make good games anymore. Bottom line is great devs make great games. Some of us just really enjoy Japanese games so thing kind of thing is all the more special. Still can't wait to get me some Horizon and God of War!

Completely agree. The demo was fantastic and this is a must-buy day 1 for me. It exceeded my expectations honestly, it had alot more to it than I originally thought. The music and atmosphere was perfect and it's something I always wanted for a hack-n-slash. This probably just shot up to one of my most anticipated games of 2017 along with Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 and Yooka-Laylee.

Oh my God the first game had so many twists in it and was so dark, and one wouldn't think of it the way it started, the heroic dad just trying to save his daughter. Can't wait for this story I know with Yoko Taro there's gonna be some twists and an excellent plot

I love how camera (and gameplay same time) switches from TPP to overhead and sidescroll. Combat is a blast, fast, beautiful and fluid.

Platinum was hit and miss some games they knock it out of the park while the others they just completely lose it. Their weakest aspect of development is story and strongest is combat

Nier on the PS3 is well worth playing and the game has multiple endings. IMHO Nier had an interesting story and is an action RPG, unfortunately the graphics are more like the ones you see in later games on the PS2 rather that what you would expect on a PS3. The graphics are still acceptable though.

The intro of Nier is interesting since the character levels up incredibly quickly but you must keep in mind that the main character is not the character in the intro.

Playing the Nier Automata demo I did not notice a timer, although I have not completed the demo because my wife called me out to go shopping.

There are quite a few demos on PSN and even some games you can play on a timed trial where you pay to unlock if you wish to play the full game. I personally like this since it saves paying fro an overhyped game and then finding out that you don't like it.

There are even some free to play games such as Neverwinter (MMORPG) which does have microtransactions but I found that you can still enjoy the game without spending any money.

I actually downloaded the Doom demo and gave it a try. I was actually surprised to find that I had a ball playing it but I was only interested in the campaign and not the multiplayer.

I didn't like the Doom multiplayer either. I was actually talking about how they say "Platinum has outdone themselves". It would be nice if more developers did this, instead of doing a half ass job and then charging extra for the rest of the game. As for the demos though, that's a great thing too. Far cry from what was talked about before the generation started. The demos I did try saved me from buying games I probably would have like Doom, The Division, and Thief to name a few

how is the enemy variety guys? I mean some people were complaining that its same robot everywhere...

You are in a factory which is run by robots so it sort of makes sense to have robots everywhere.

There are different types of robots from small to large (some with shields) and flying robots. You also have a massive digger that will attack as well (not really a spoiler since it is very early in the demo). On hard or very hard settings the small robots will attack in waves attempting to surround you and if that happens you will lose health very rapidly.

If you do try the hard modes it is worth doing some exploration since you can pickup full health kits. You can do this on normal and easy but it's not really necessary unless you need to "git gud". 😉

thanks buddy for reply. I m huge DMC3 fan so hopefully this game will be same if not better in terms of combat. I couldnt play Bayonetta on hard on PS3 as frame rates were terrible but I am looking forward to it

Playing on normal is definitely not a challenge at all. Must play hard. I like the game though, I'll definitely get it.

I never played the first 1. I wanted to but I never got around to playing it. So when the news that a 2nd one will come out and saw the trailer it got me interested especially with platinum games being the development of the game as in my opinion they are some of the Best devs that make action games, ala Bayonetta and metal gear rising. Anyway I started playing the demo and all I have to say is I was completely blown away with everything the demo offerd. The thing that really amazed me the most was how extremely smooth the 60 FPS of the game was like literally it's the smoothest 60 FPS action game I played this generation well at least on ps4 pro as that the console I was playing it on. Anyone that has a ps4 download the demo and give it a shot especially if your a action fan or platinum games fan like I am.

It was okay. It's not better than Bayonetta, not by a mile.

The environments were bland even in 4k or whatever native resolution it's running under. It reminded me of the bland browns and greys that were common on shooters during the 360/PS3 days.

The combat is simply okay. Nothing truly groundbreaking here. Seems like they implemented a Bayonetta esque dodge mechanic with the trigger...everything else is mash square or triangle.

The enemy types were boring. Same ole Android logo looking robots. Wave after wave of them.

The change in camera angles while interesting was jarring at times. I'm not even sure if this game even attempts to auto lock to enemies.

I'll probably get Gravity Rush 2...but this game was not impressive at all to me based on the demo.

The music is cool though.

Probably from fans upset that Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 were Wii U exclusives. IT IS EARLY so we can't write off NieR's combat yet ... but in no way is it deeper than either of the Platinuum Wii U games as far as the demo has to show us so far. The enemies were not diverse, that is certain. But I think the point of the demo was to show off the combat styles. I did not find the transition jarring at all. It moved smoothly from one to the other based on the area you enter.

I've been told that won't be true in the actual game but judging from this demo alone, I think its way too overhyped.

Wow, I had pretty much the complete opposite reaction. Having enjoyed both Bayonetta games, I am super excited about this game and will buy day 1 after playing this demo.
Also, regarding your color complaint, you know they're in a factory, yes? Factories are supposed to be bland, the colors were appropriate, lol. Obviously there will be more colorful settings that are not factories.

Okay, what's going on? People are hyping the demo up but I just played it, and it was wholly underwhelming. Not much of either substance or style with the gameplay, the graphics look like a PS3 game, and there's little to be said about the game's art style. Music's good, that's about it. It can't just be me, right? :(

Everyone keeps saying this, and don't get me wrong i love everything platinum does (except for the new ninja turtles game, was meh) but this is only as good as it is because it's under the direction of the leading core team behind the first game. really everything good about this was accomplished in the first game with the exception of the combat which platinum (like always) has nailed with great precision. They deserve some credit for sure, but equal credit also goes to Takahisa Taura and his crew

So how are you gonna judge the full game?! By buying it! Can't trust reviews these days. And for that reason a demo from the beginning of the game is your best shot to get an impression before buying...and no, let's plays are subjective either.

Sure, but you can get a pretty good idea with a demo, and if the game is anything like the demo, I'm sold. I can't remember too many times where I loved a demo but was really disappointed after buying the whole game. Maybe it's just me.

Just played the demo a few hours ago, it is quite awesome indeed. I was pleasantly surprised. Was really cool how it seamlessly transitions between 3rd person action, to side scroller, and top-down bullet hell. And the boss? Damn, so epic.

After fighting robots that look like the pilsbury dough boy over and over and over again, I deleted the demo. The robots barely try to attack you, they just wait there for you to hit them. Guess this game is marketed to casual players. I'll be waiting for NiOh, a game made for people that actually like a challenge

I just hope I get teases of the original Nier characters in some way or another. Dad Nier was a Western-change but I grew attached to him, mostly because I fucking love the voice actor for him, Jamieson Price. I'd watch and buy any game with him voicing a main character >_>
