Pam/Cannot Be Tamed of Gaming Rebellion is looking at one of gaming’s lesser known mascots – Bonk! She reviews the original Bonk’s Adventure on the TurboGrafx-16, as well as look at a bit of his history and the history of the console to explain why Bonk never made it big in North America like Mario or Sonic.
Alex St-Amour from Link-Cable writes: "Bonk’s Adventure is a decent little game but more of a novelty than anything. Sort of like the Turbografx-16 it was created for, the game is a footnote in gaming, a fun anecdote for historian-gamers looking to relive a small part of the one of the most brutal console wars. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll get some enjoyment out of Bonk’s Adventure, it’s a fun, charming, light romp through gaming’s past – but it’s no Mario."
It's been a long time but now a few games from the highly underrated TurboGrafx-16 are ready to download on Wii U. So, prepare to push the "Run" button and add some retro awesomeness into your gaming diet.
I downloaded Bonk's adventure last night and I gotta say the VC menu is a HUGE improvement over Nintendo's first party VC games. You get original system sounds, the ability to use a native, full or custom screen size- even the initial start up uses a different tune than the other VC games, it's pretty neat!
"Originally released for the TurboGrafx-16, Bonk’s Adventure – the prehistoric platformer which follows the adventures of Bonk, as he embarks on a quest to save Princess Za – has seen a few re-releases since its 1989 launch. Since then, the game has graced platforms such as the NES, GameBoy, PlayStation 3, and the Wii Virtual Console."
When are they going to release the arcade version? That one was really cool too
Lesser-known I don't know what you're talking about anybody that knows anything about the tg16 knows that Bonk was the mascot this makes no sense at all. I loved playing this game back in the day.
