ScreenCritics Sam takes time out to explore how the 'Devil May Cry' series has redefined what it means to be a stylized video game.
With Final Fantasy XVI committing fully to fast-paced action gameplay, it may finally be time for a new remake series of a classic Capcom franchise: Devil May Cry. As the franchise that essentially originated the particular style of 3D action combat that the upcoming Final Fantasy is making heavy use of, Devil May Cry could very well be due for a remake, or even a series of remakes, to address certain flaws and more dated aspects of its classic games, similarly to the popular modern remakes for Capcom's Resident Evil series.
why in the hell would we need a remake of devil may cry when devil may cry 5 was great? We just need devil may cry 6 ; not a remake, enough with the remakes
I'd much prefer we get new games that have such combat. Enough with the remakes. At least move forward if you want more of the same series
Why not a sequel? Why do we run to "needs a Remake" all the time now. I'd rather have the original and then a brand new entry instead of the original and the original but remade.
With DMC5's four-year anniversary passing and the increased relevance of its genre, now could be the best time for a new Devil May Cry game.
I am super surprised that a total remake of the first DMC, in the vein of the latest Resident Evil titles, hasn't been revealed.
Capcom is banging out the RE series. I would Love a new Onimusha and Power Stone from Capcom.
Well sh*t while we're at it let's get a remake of MvC2. Honestly Devil May Cry was one of my favorite games and I really didn't like the tonal shift too much as the series progressed. Now would be a good time to return to DMC 1 and do a soft reboot from there keeping the tone dark. I would also be 100% down for a game based on the story of Sparda.
Fable co-creator Dene Carter turned to Devil May Cry for an idea of scope when developing the 2004 hit action RPG.
"Look to your peers", "stand on the shoulders of giants", "don't re-invent the wheel". Or in far more blunt down-to-earth British dev terminology: "rip it off" hahaha
Just here to read the comments of the people who obviously didn't actually read the article; just the headline.
one of the baddest games of em all.
Coming from someone who has played games for a LONG time, killed many pixels and polygons over the years and tried to look good doing it from contra, castlevania, mega man, ninja gaiden, guerrilla war, kabuki quantum fighter, syphon filter, tenchu, shinobi, etc etc etc blah blah blah... I always tried look good doing it killing enemies and bosses.
Devil may cry shows up in magazines from the same guys that blew me away with their postponed and rebuilt RE2. When that demo showed up with Code Veronica(played on Dreamcast then rebought it on PS2), it blew me away. Being a Japanese fan of things like Vampire Hunter D and the movie Bloodlust, Dante was just too awesome. Even gave me that Castlevania feeling in some ways with the lighting and hallways backed by a killer rock base sound.

But went beyond other games with a main character that knew he was good as a demon hunter and let his sword and guns do the talking with enemies many times bigger than he was while being cocky. The teams had hit and misses with the sequels but what overall remained was a guy with style and a brother equally as dangerous.
Too bad we'll never get a Dark Night Sparda prequel to round out the series and see how Mundus got his @$$ kicked. Like father like son. But it's not about substance as games like this were actioned packed and the fun factor was the replay value. Not 100 missions and side levels or online play to artificially inflate the length of the game. Article writer gets it even though I will never play DMC and Tameemi Antoniades idea that early fans didn't know why they liked Dante, his combat, his story, his clothes and his style.F Tameemi.
With Devil May Cry, I like to look at it as style "through" substance. Its a landmark game whose concept IMO has yet to be surpassed.

EDIT: Also, this looks like the exact same article from an old site called "screengurus". The site seems to be down though.
devil may cry is stylish substance
