As usual, the games that do the same thing every year get top spot. Sad really.

-Foxtrot2726d ago

While the good games get left behind in the dust...

ninsigma2726d ago

Yup, pretty much. Anyone who asks why there's a lack of creativity, just point them to this.

Gazondaily2726d ago

Question is; who is to blame?

Christopher2726d ago

Obama, the Detroit Lions, and No Man's Sky are to blame.

That last part is true in some respects, though. The issue is that the games that are being sold as something 'new and extraordinary' tend to fall flat and people go back to what they know and what is sold to them as 'better than the last time you played it'.

xDealtwithIt2726d ago

It's not enough to be new and extraordinary, they also have to be fun and interesting.

It also doesn't help that sony didn't market and push the game like they did UC4 and CoD.

CrimsonWing692726d ago

As @Septic just asked who do we really blame for this? As a business they are providing exactly what the consumers consume. If people would stop buying this game you'd see Activision changing its tune.

So I don't think it's fair to say that the games that do the same thing every year get the top spot and good games get left in the dust. Instead it's the consumers who keep buying this series. You can't expect a business to stop making a profit off a series just because you are tired of the series. It's about the mass consumer.

I don't think the games are anything special anymore but if I were Bobby Kotick you can bet dollars to donuts I'd be doing the same thing he is because at the end of the day it isn't about what you or that other person likes, it's about what me as a business executive can make for the consumer to keep me filthy friggin' rich.

JackBNimble2726d ago

Sorry but if it ain't broken.... I am personally not a fan but obviously there is a market for COD and first person shooter's.

Retroman2725d ago

@ Septic

Question is ; who is to blame?

Gamers who keep buying this Crap is the blame.

only this year COD IW was actually an amazing game.... single player epic

ShadowWolf7122725d ago

That campaign was anything but the same as what they've been doing.

One of the best in the series.

Overload2726d ago

At least the TLG did better than SOTC and Ico. I knew it wouldn't sell that well, which is disappointing.

Gazondaily2726d ago

Even Dead Rising outsold TLG. No justice eh? 😟

ninsigma2726d ago

I'm not that surprised about tlg though. It had its own market and I never really expected it to set the world on fire in terms of sales (mine finally arrived today woooooo). Dead rising would appeal to more of the masses than tlg would I think, which is a shame. While DR can be fun, I've generally found it to be a shallow experience.

Overload2726d ago (Edited 2726d ago )

I'm not surprised about that at all. Dead Rising 4 sold more than Shadow Of The Colossus too.

Team Ico is in my top 3 developers, but you're not going to see me carrying on trying to justify low sales. Games like SOTC, Ico, TLG are part of the reason I always buy Playstation. The fact TLG even exists is a miracle.

Overload2726d ago (Edited 2726d ago )

People don't market these kind of games hard for a reason, it's extremely disheartening, but the mass isn't interested in the kinds of games, they would rather shoot stuff. I accepted this along time ago. I salute PlayStation for even finishing it, to be honest.

"It's unfortunate but true that variety doesn't always sell on ps4. Most gamers are not interested in art house cuck type games like this. They play video games for a main reason, and that's fun. Not for a game where a dog might not listen to your commands and its done so you can "feel" a connection"

This is actually disgusting and you don't want to start talking about what sells where.

Pancit_Canton2726d ago

@Septic

Two platform Vs. One in one region (UK Only) Pretty great comparison. /s

Kribwalker2726d ago

@pancit

This is physical copies only, and as far as i know there was not a physical release in the UK for pc. So yes it is a great comparison

peewee110162726d ago

What... not it did not. TLG outsold DR4 idk where your getting ur false info from.

Kribwalker2725d ago

@peewee

See the article. DR4 was 5th, TLG was 7th

The Last Guardian Did not sell well ??? other day Gamers bit-chen how well it is .
How disappointing for them.

Shessh.

kevnb2726d ago

well pc gaming is usually a few years ahead of console gaming, on pc call of duty has fallen off all best seller lists.

SH1ELD2726d ago

This game should be rated T for annoying Teens.

Immorals2726d ago

The price got reduced a while back, I've seen it 25 to 30 quid in most places. Lots of parents will buy it at that price

Christopher171d ago

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88170d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183169d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie169d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.

I don't think it's in Activision's DNA to stick their neck out on something like this unfortunately. They've got a surefire winner with COD so why risk a winning formula.
fwiw, Firewall Zero Hour was more fun than COD for me, but obviously didn't have the same user base and budget
I wonder hypothetically if a non-VR COD style game were to integrate VR players, could you even balance such a thing out. I'm guessing no.

TheEnigma313342d ago

No it won't. They are lazy and people will buy anyways

ApocalypseShadow341d ago

Highly unlikely at the moment. Executives are more concerned with being bought by Daddy Warbucks and golden parachutes than moving VR forward. They had a chance last gen but released a spaceship, combat demo instead. COD would increase VR awareness but if they were bought, the same thing that happened to other developers under Microsoft would happen to them.

Just consider, before being bought by Microsoft, Bethesda had Skyrim and Wolfenstein Cyber pilot. Ninja Theory had Hell Blade, Dexed and helped with Vader Immortal. Inxile had Mage's Tale. Double Fine had Psychonauts. ID Software had Doom VFR and Doom 3. Compulsion had We Happy Few: Uncle Jack Live.

Ever since the purchase of those developers, zero VR games announced or released. And since Microsoft continues to shun VR, Activision games like COD wouldn't have VR either under them.

Firewall, Crossfire, Pavlov, and whoever else makes an FPS game in VR, will have to do for the time being. Maybe Sony will make one like Killzone or Resistance in VR. Also surprised that Valve didn't put Counterstrike in VR.

poppatron341d ago

I think the experience would be so different to traditional CoD and share so little with it that there would be no point in pinning the CoD label on it. I think Pavlov is about as close as you’ll get
