Chelsea Beam at GamerTime UK takes an incredibly in-depth look at the astounding soundtracks of the Final Fantasy series and picks out her top 5.
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
FF13 but no FF8 despite it being one of the most unique soundtracks of the series
Listen to FF7 or FF9 and then listen to FF8 they both sound similar but FF8 just sounds totally different and it's awesome.
FF13s soundtrack, like the instalment in general was not that good...no way better then FF8 anyway.
FF7 @ #5 = bullshit list.
Only major gripe I have with that list is no mention of FF6.
My top 3 in no particular order:
- FF6
- FF7
- FF9
Second tier soundtracks:
- FF8
- FF10
Followed by 5, 12 and 13. Havent played FF15 yet....
I think ff15 is the best one of the series.
To this day I remember getting chills during the scene with Red XIII learning about his father, the way the music just fits the story perfectly was quite remarkable. Also, a shout out to Final Fantasy Tactics, few game soundtracks manage to convey mood like they did in FFT.
