What's with the fog? Is there a sniper rifle in this game or is it more of a close combat type of focus? Quite honestly, and correct if I'm wrong, it seems like EPIC has sacrificed view distance for close up detail.
Can't tell how good the graphics are in this video due to the poor quality, however the game play does look solid. The fog is disturbing tho......

On a side note, I don't see how people compare this to R2, they are two different kinds of shooters, kind of funny when you think of the lengths people will go to win an argument.

Quite some time ago there were screen shot comparisons between G1 and G2. The fog that you mention was the first thing I noticed too. It's almost as if they added slightly more detail in your immediate surroundings, but that seems to have killed the detail in anything over 10 yards away.

With or without fog though, I'm really looking forward to this game. I suppose it'll be a bit more of a new experience for me since I never really got to play the first Gear's multiplayer online. I expect it will be my favorite aspect of the game for this one though.

wtf I was JEALOUS of this game but it is already getting stale just from watching the gameplay videos :(

and oddly R2 is getting better and better the more i watch its videos :P

and you can compare the two for instance imagine that gow2 was a rotted meatball and R2 was a delicious plump fruit you my like meat balls better then fruit but you would always like the plump fruit over the rotten meat ball,... but you are right it is much more related to a persons taste of games than quality.

the gameplay is pretty much there, they tweaked a couple of things and polished the game some more. I mean Gears 1 was great except for the glitches and host advantage plus short campaign. Epic said the campaign will be longer, that they fixed the host issue and that they fixed most of the glitches/exploits from the first, so even though its "more of the same" it should be rated higher than the first cause they virtually improved everything even if it just was by a little bit

Gears 2 looks different and has some graphical improvements but its not looking that much better. Its not like the difference in visuals between say COD2 and COD4 which are both on the 360.

what it is that people want. They complain that GOW2 looks like GOW. GOW is still one of the best looking games out to date and yet people expect it to be a vast improvement over the first. Its like Halo, its hard to improve on perfection.

I agree with you for the most part... however, I cannot agree that Halo is 'perfection'. I'm a big fan (of the first two games at least) but I don't believe that ANY game is 'perfect'. I personally believe Halo 3 should have been a bigger leap forward where overall 'graphics' are concerned. Unlike Gears of War it was being made on a new, more powerful platform so I expected more. Just my opinion though.

The first part I agree with, however. Developers also have to stay within certain parameters or risk alienating their fanbase. Or rather, pissing them off. I'm not saying that this means a game can't improve vastly in a sequel... but if you deviate too far on a visual level you can have a backlash such as what's happened with Diablo III.

When it comes to my personal feelings... I don't believe Gears of War 2 is a huge step above the original in terms of graphics. That, however, makes little difference to me. It's not being designed on a new console and it's simply using the same (albeit upgraded) engine so the progression in technical aspects is pretty much what I expected. Still a nice looking game, at least to my eyes. Though I can also understand how the art style may not be appealing to some.

looks great enough for a sequal levels look more massive, way more stuff on screen at a time than in Gears 1 (speaking in campaign mode), the game is overloaded with new online game modes etc.. I feel it's more than a good enough leap over Gears 1. Also I think Gears 2 has way better visuals and more massive scenes going on in it than COD4. I feel Gears 2 is great looking for a sequal... unlike Halo 3 was to 2!

Epic should not release the game if that how the final project looks.. The fog and smoke screen gas combined together will leave the game in outter shiat when trying to shoot people. You will be getting shoot from the draw distance and not no where to shoot back. Epic has really little over one month to fix these issues before sending the Master Disc to the manufacter. Instead of giving you a lancer with the special edition;give me a "fan" to increase the draw distance inside of the game.. I am very worried about this game now.. I have looked at the video 5 time straight and it looks like shiat before the flies come..

To all the people complaining about draw distance...if you played the first game then you would know that gridlock is a map situated right next to a river or some sort of water body, that would explain the heavy fog. If you look at gameplay videos of the other map "security", you will notice the fog isn't present.
