Why a Telltale ‘Westworld’ Series Could Work

Unlike other brands, Westworld is the perfect source material for a great Telltale series. Although matching it would be a challenge in itself, will and can the company responsible for the episodic Game of Thrones game deliver it?

Oh God please no. People need to stop giving them stapled IP's.

xDealtwithIt2725d ago

Agreed. The formula is getting kind of old too.

Thatguy-3102725d ago

They're wearing it out by half assing the experience. The story they tell don't offer a lot of different outcomes when it comes to the choices you make.

honestly im getting sick of telltale, when its not because of their blatantly garbage engine it because of their lack of imagination and creativity, theyve been on auto-pilot for a while and it really is noticable now.

their games have been pretty average other than Tales of Borderland, TWD S1 and Wolf Among Us

caelumsixsmith2725d ago

I agree, but the point I'm trying to make is that their Westworld can be as good as the first season of TWD. There is a lot of room to create new things and established characters could still be taken down new paths. The park has over 30 years of possible history, so they just have to stop being so lazy.

I enjoyed the TWD and Wolf Among Us games so I don't see any problem with licensed franchises.

I mean.... a licensed franchise game can totally be bad, but it won't be because it's a licensed franchised game. It'll just be because it was badly executed

Unlike some who are getting tired of the formula, I still like Telltale. My problem is, their quality is hit or miss. After Tales From the Borderlands, it's tough to play mediocre quality games like Game of Thrones, a game which would have lended itself so well to the formula if done well. Westworld would as well, but would it be good? Who knows. They're not consistent enough with writing quality.

Or, you know, you could try to make a real Westworld game.

caelumsixsmith2725d ago

Were it an MMO, it would fail miserably bc of how the market focuses on theme parks. I can see it working as a single player game with multiplayer features, but that would still be a very ambitious project. It would probably never live up to the scope of the show or just look like a Red Dead Redemption clone of sorts. And even if it succeeded mechanically, it would probably have problems with the story delivery, which right now is the brand's highest selling point.

I think a narrative game would be the best way of pulling off a Westworld game. What makes Westworld compelling is the story and interactions between humans and hosts; not the shooting. Turning it into a run-off-the-mill third person shooter game would be a recipe for certain failure. Actually, it would be impossible to make a proper Westworld game unless they literally invented human-like AI for the game just like they did in the show's universe.

But a narrative game would be the next best thing, in my opinion

Neil Druckmann clarifies true intent of new Naughty Dog game comments

Following a recent interview with Sony, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann claims the original intent was “unfortunately lost” in the process.

Rangerman12085h ago

Glad he clarified it but i'm still somewhat skeptical. Plus, his comments about how Ai will revolutionize storytelling were still pretty iffy.

No need to bow down, Stan your ground. The AI comments were gross though.

Pretty excited as I read these. I just cant wait to see what ND is up to.
