how is RE7 a cheap made game? I would also like to inquire about the crash remasters, isn't this what the fans, the gamers want? People have been asking for crash for a long time, even if it is a niche market Sony has done the right thing by listening and providing us with this. Sure, it's not a brand new crash game, however, from a business standpoint doesn't it make sense to test the waters and see how well its received before wholly investing in a brand new fully fledged game? SF5 has had its problems, right now its amazing, they shouldn't have released it and just delayed I think that would have been a better choice. The order is a technical marvel considering how early it released, there were very few games that rivaled the order in terms of its graphical display, could've been a better game but alas that doesn't mean it was cheap made. I wish every game was a homerun 10/10 that revolutionized the industry; that's just not going to happen though. I'd also argue that the reason sony is doing so well is because the are flooding the market the games, games that their consumers demand. There is a game for everyone on ps4. I'm glad Sony is making some really good moves and listening to their fans, and more importantly listening to people who aren't fans and winning them over with games.

Actually, last year in December alone, Sony was able to sell 5.7 million PS4s ( please see the link provided if you find it hard to believe). So this holiday season the PS4 is cheaper and if the records BF is any indication we can actually expect Sony to repeat if not surpass that 5.7 million sold number. Especially if you factor in how HOT the PRO is selling right now.

So this means that come January 2017 you'll be looking at about 56-57 million PS4s sold through, if not more. And then you count the heavy hitters that are coming out early next year and Sony will easily move more than 1 million consoles per month during those first 3 months of the year. This puts you exactly around 60 million consoles sold by the end of March 2017.

Congrats to Sony with the 50mil sales as that's the payoff for actually listening to what the fans wanted since it's reveal by not having an always online plan, initial tacked on, forgotten gimmick for $100, maybe $150, more and better exclusives and real ones at that, that aren't on a different complete platform even though some love to pretend it's the same.

Hope that they keep listening with the future of PlayStation and keep that insane growth with, I'm not talking about sales, but new IPs. Honestly, PlayStation has the most brand new IPs versus their competition. Genuinely gives way to new ideas, no matter how weird, simple, or crazy they might sound.

Yes they did. Because of Sony's financial situation and the 360 previously leading the race, it was thought that Sony wouldn't have the budget to make a better console or even launch another console. And because Microsoft had taken away so much of their market share, it was believed that their next console would take even more.......which was the direct opposite this generation. Trust me. Every big company (including Square Enix) thought the Xbox One was going to dominate the industry, until they saw the reaction. They were all in a wait and see mode though, which is why there were so many remasters at the beginning of this generation. Just Cause 3 for example, was designed as a F2P MP game originally.

Sony didn't have the budget to make a better console. They went the same route as Microsoft instead of making custom hardware like they did with PS1, PS2 and PS3. If it wasn't for the success of the PS4, Sony would be in a very bad place as a company. Sony stocks are up $10 from pre-launch prices, but they are still half of what they were pre-market crash in 2008 and down $120+ from their record high in 2000.

Sony had a whole generation to learn from their mistakes. It took them a very long time to catch up to Microsoft and eventually beat them last generation.

Microsoft were winning from the get go. So because that didn't learn from anything, they wanted to push things further in favour of themselves. Always online DRM. TV media box etc. They became arrogant and tried to force certain things on us.

Now they are definitely not winning, so they are learning from the start of this generation. Props to them for trying to fix their mistakes. But the dye is cast. Sony will never lose now. They've learned so much and now have much more insight toward the future.

I've been thinking about how people were b!tching about the lack of EA Access on the PS4 compared to X1. With all these games coming and what we have already, I'm personally glad we don't have it. MS IMO can keep that. It seems like it's not enough to even help keep them in the game so it wasn't much of a deal breaker to begin with. People just like to complain I guess.

I'm glad Sony has stuck to their vision this time around and delivered the way they have. Even future thinking like with HDR. MS thought they had something by bridging the gap to PC and figured they had this generation by a landslide I'm sure. So glad that hasn't happened. If I wanted to play on PC, I'd be there already (and probably will soon enough, but still want a console). Also, and lastly, it's apparent that any idea MS has had was all reactionary. They haven't figured out how to capture the hearts of gamers after 3generations and continue to push in the wrong direction. B) Wished they would drop out.

Considering the awful placement the PS3 launched with. It was trashed talked on for years by developers and the community, had a ridiculously high price for console gamers, the Cell made development for the console atrocious for 3rd parties at launch (the biggest mistake of the PS3 IMO, a traditional CPU and better GPU would have done just as much), and lied on for years about having no games.

Yet it still managed to turn the entire generation around by making said develoeprs and community eat crow (some of which at E3), managed to drop the price significantly, managed to help developers find the strengths of the Cell Processor, had an amazing Year 1 of games for those of us who owned the console, ended up winning several GOTY awards for its exclusives through the generation, and moved from a distant 3rd up to 2nd place in console sales that generation while launching at a significantly higher price than both the 360 and Wii, and a year later than the 360.

Anyone who couldn't see that the PS4 when it was announced, and had none of those issues, meanwhile the competition was struggling with just about everything the PS3 went through once again were either group A or group B.

This gen was a easy win for Sony because they fixed all their problems with the PS3, meanwhile the competition took on all of said problems. Sony at their worst still came in 2nd in sales and considering the Wii was a hit with the casual market moreso than the core, Sony took home the hearts of the core after its comeback.

The Xbox brand is a great brand, Nintendo is a great brand, but when it comes to console gaming PlayStation is simply in another league because of their worldwide audience and content.

I still stick by my lifetime numbers for this generation:

PS4: 110 - 130m
XBO: 65m - 75m
Wii U: 20m (well not this one)

You can't just use 360 numbers to calculate XB1 numbers though. As for using Xbox One figures we haven't had those in so long that we really can't use them to predict how the XB1 is selling.

Yes you can use X360 numbers. And how about Xbox business is down in last 2 MS's quarter reports. Xbone sales are behind X360 sales WW. Last time when MS said that Xbone is outpacing X360 was back in January 2016 :

It's very strategical to place it before Scorpio launches or after Scorpio has hit it's peak.

Placing it before would really burn out most of Xbox One S sales, but then, it would eventually be overshadowed by the Scorpio being represented as a "brand new console."

Placing that price drop after it's peak sales would mean that the PS4 can once again regain almost full momentum.

There's also the combination of applying the price drop before 2017's Black Friday. Think about this, would someone just want a Scorpio with their 1080p TV (as Scorpio will not be cheap at release, being brand new) or will they want a Pro and have enough money to get that with a living room sized 4k TV? I think most people would go with the latter as it's a great combination to stay up to date with entertainment quality.

That's business strategy, it has a lot of factors and it will all just depend on Scorpio's release date and price. I'm thinking November for $500, maybe $450 for a very limited time as Microsoft has tried giving the Xbox One away by greatly reducing it's price. They have given a free Windows 10 upgrade for a year, this approach is similar, but minimal as it could be $450 for a few weeks.

Regardless, PlayStation is at a great point in time, with the very successful PSX 2016 and the much greater amount of exclusives it has.

Sony is doing great which is why I'm always amazed as to why we get articles about how MS is making this unexpected comeback, and Sony should be worried or afraid just a few weeks ago because they won a few months. Mind you MS is doing fine better than the previous generation but Sony is definitely on a different level.
