Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford fights fires over lack of Bulletstorm upgrade discount

Eurogamer:
During The Game Awards, Gearbox announced it was behind the Bulletstorm remaster. Bulletstorm is a superb first-person shooter, as our Christian Donlan insists, so news of the Full Clip Edition was welcome. But shortly after the reveal, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford battled calls on Twitter for an upgrade discount programme that - it seems - is not going to happen.

Who in his right mind will pay 60$ for Bulletstorm Remaster?

Seriously Gearbox, get your head out of your @ss. This should have been 20$ max.

georeo2714d ago

I was like "hell yeah I'll get it for 20 maybe even 30". Then I saw 60 Bone's lol. The question is... Does it even look better?

DarkOcelet2714d ago

Its your average remaster,1080/60fps. Not much of a difference really.

DemonChicken2714d ago

Compare it to something like crash which is a full remake and for $40!

Like Bethesda, maybe Gearbox didn't get the memo?

Yui_Suzumiya2714d ago

I wouldn't and I got it for $60 the first time around. $40 max for me because I do really want this.

DarkOcelet2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

I enjoyed Bulletstorm but this price tag is just pure greed.

Relientk772714d ago

I hope it sells like a lead balloon.

Mediocre game for $60, yeah that's not happening

bluefox7552714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Lol, Bethesda had the audacity to charge $60 for a 5 year old game as well, but at least they offered a free upgrade. Gearbox is complete garbage.

Trekster_Gamer2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Pitchford should have been canned after the Aliens colonial Marines fiasco!!!

This guy is a dirt bag!

CorndogBurglar2714d ago

I diet bag? Interesting.

I assume that means he's a raging piece of crap? Because that would be accurate.

Onness2714d ago

"If that is a deal breaker for you, you should skip it." - Randy Pitchford

Randy! What are you doing? Don't pull a Microsoft circa 2013 here and tell people to just deal with it, you're going to end up ruining this franchise's chances of being recognized once again. You're supposed to be selling the damn game!

CorndogBurglar2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Yeah man. What kind of business man says don't buy their product? You NEVER say that. Instead you come up with reasons why people SHOULD pay the $60.

This guy is ridiculous.

OMGitzThatGuy2714d ago

What he said was correct though. If you're buying the game and want a discount then that means you already have it and you probably should just skip this. He can't win this, if he would have given reasons to buy it then people would say that it is normal PR responses.

Onness2713d ago

Like, I totally get OMGGitzThatGuy's point, Randy's just being straight up about the Full Clip Edition, and how owners of the original Bulletstorm got the experience back then, but that's the problem. This Remaster seems so pointless, considering the only real improvements or significant additions are pre-order bonuses and the typical technical upgrades we come to expect this generation. There's nothing to offer unless you take the risk and buy it before info is out for Duke Nukem. I don't know about you, but I'm not pre-ordering a game that has the guy who lead the whole Aliens: Colonial Marines controversy, let alone for close to $60. If it's meant for people who haven't played the original, then it wouldn't be $60. I feel like they should've sold it as a budget title to grow the franchise, not milk it.

Did this guy even study anything about business?

im not really surprised by that, shes always been more a "let me talk about something else than what u want to know" kinda gal

She's a caricature of the shareholders.

"Shareholders" I call them cancer, they are already rich to begin with but need more and more. It's like a disease, with no cure.

CrimsonWing693h ago

Yea, it was and it’s insulting that they think we’re dumb enough to fall for this. Look, the truth was you took a gamble on these studios and while they released some games to critical praise and great reception they just aren’t bringing in a ROI. Be transparent, you’re not a politician.

Just tell everyone you spend money on projects big and small and when money isn’t being made you go over the potential of revenue a studio can bring in vs those that can’t and make the hard decision to chop them.

She says this whole thing about “success” doesn’t fit one meaning for each studio. Well yea, a small budget production isn’t going to expect to sell the same as a large budget production.

One thing I wish they did though was let Tango be an independent studio.

disheartening to see no regard for the human cost of business anymore
the bad decisions and judgements of these CEOs severely impact the frontliners
these fake responses are just salt on wounds

RoadRacer3h ago

imagine havin the audacity to say "we need more games like hifi rush" right after closing the studio that made it lol
followin up with this show of "deflecting every question" was in poor taste
