Gamesradar: "Final Fantasy evokes powerful emotions; longing, adventurous optimism, ridiculous good humor, and awe are natural byproducts of wandering through the series’ strange worlds. That human tapestry ain’t exactly easy to encapsulate in a single image, though. How the hell do you translate a spectrum of experience that includes somber reflections on the meaning of life with riding a giant bird off a mountain into a single piece of cover art? The answer is: you can’t. Square-Enix keeps on trying anyway. Sometimes they even come close! Other times… woof. Here, then, are all of the main Final Fantasy game covers ranked from worst to best."
Looking back at Final Fantasy 6 on its 30th anniversary provides a snapshot of one of gaming's most important franchises at a pivotal turning point.
Gary Green said: It’s interesting to revisit the roots of your favorite franchises to see first-hand what’s changed and what’s stuck around all these years, though perhaps ‘visit’ would be more accurate than ‘revisit’ since apparently, Europe wasn’t worthy of the original six Final Fantasy games the first time around. By the time we started getting ports of these iconic games, we’d already been through the PSOne JRPG golden age. So we’d already seen the best of what Final Fantasy had to offer, while these predecessors looked outdated, unrefined, and (dare I say it) ugly. We aren’t bitter about the delayed releases, honest…
I'd love to but square said fk you to the ps fanbase that wanted these physically. Meanwhile switch got a physical release.

I always go Yuna, Aerith, Rikku, Rinoa, and for some reason Vanilla, Ashe, Cindy, Lunafreya, Quistis
Gotta disagree with his opinion on not knowing what to expect out of FFX from its cover. The guy's got a sword, a weird neo-eclectic vibe in clothing/sword, and is on a beach, signifying water will have a lot to do with the environment/story. They could have done more, but I'd definitely rank it above FFXIII and even FFXV(The old cover was better IMO).
This my current ranking system from 1-10 and I stand by it since the day I played my first Final Fantasy game which was Final Fantasy VIII back when it first released on PS, PC.
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Final Fantasy IX
4. Final Fantasy XIV
5. Final Fantasy X
6. Final Fantasy X-II
7. Final Fantasy V
8. Final Fantasy IV
9. Final Fantasy II
10. Final Fantasy III
Funny thing is I had never played a FF game before I picked up FFX and what made me notice it was the cover with the water sword. Ended up being one of my fav games. Awesome box art.
they need to rank these games different 1-10x2 and then when they turned to world of warcraft battle style forgetting those final fantasy fans who made them who they were
I love ffx cover. Water is a huge part of the game, so is the unique character models and it gives off that sense of an adventure looking out a horizon. They are all sort of simplistic so there is not much to rate. The FFXIII has a nice shine to it, iirc which had a nice quality look however I dislike how Lightning is the only thing on it. I really like the crystallized cocoon art in the logo should have just made that really big lol. I really dislike the shift in artwork design for Ligntning returns.
