I cant blame him, Halo has been lacking since Bungie left. But to leave an IP like this to go make indies is kinda weird especially after leading the development of only two games in the series.

Well, good luck to him on his future endevours.

Hoffmann2722d ago

Sometimes you have an idea you totally want to realize but you can't do it as a part of the company you worked for. Who knows, maybe he was just burned out on Halo or he wants to be his own boss completely.

FriedGoat2721d ago

Yeah, It must be hard to try and realize an idea when Microsoft are forcing you to make your game into a glorified micro transaction marketplace.

AizenSosuke2721d ago

I am being honest with myself and my opinion only thank god he left, now make a true Halo successor.

Erik73572721d ago (Edited 2721d ago )

Agree. The more we gut out 343 and get new fresh talent the higher chances we have of a excellent Halo game. Frank helped with writing Halo 2 and 3 and is now halo franchise director for Halo 4-5. I want to replace him as well, it seems to be focused on the lore of the Halo Universe rather than the story within the game.

mozzie2721d ago

The only problem with Halo 5 I have is that 343 is trying to force us into liking Spartan Locke while his helmet still looks like garbage. Just take what you have with Master Chief and let's celebrate him. All I want is Master Chief, no Locke or any other new character. I like the Gears approach much better with Marcus's Son.

Bismarn2721d ago

Indies oh gawd. I had hoped NMS was the final nail in that coffin. Well at least he didn't leave to work on mobile games.

Redx1652721d ago

Halo is just like COD.

Both are dying out. Bungie were the original developers of that game. The franchise should of ended when they wanted it to...

Erik73572721d ago (Edited 2721d ago )

No. Halo is held to much higher expectations than COD.

Halo's universe is very big and detailed, which the only sc-fi game that I know that is as detailed as Halo is the Mass Effect series.. There will always be die hard fans for halo and a much more stronger following of it than COD because of it's characters and universe.

Bungie created a sc-fi universe not just a single franchise

Redx1652721d ago

You seem not to understand what my original op is.

Halo is yet another FPS that shows no innovation. The franchise has been going on a downhill spiral since Halo 4. Halo doesn't feel unqiue anymore like the Halo 2 and Halo 3 days.

Its better to end the franchise on a high note rather than be like COD ( Which they said they wanted Halo to be made for another 30+ years... )

Erik73572721d ago (Edited 2721d ago )

It's not that I dont understand it, I just disagree with it and I think we have another two decades to go at least before Halo is going on a "downward spiral". I would agree that is not having massive gains in popularity that halo 1-3 generated but I disagree with it going on a downward spiral.

Do you know the player base is stronger in Halo 5 than it was in halo 4? Downward spiral doesn't look that bad. Do you know they were the first to have free DLC compared to other major fps such as Titanfall and inspire things like the loot box system in Overwatch? Halo is still home to a lot of innovation and trends of today's FPS market, its just your not giving it credit.
It has a much brighter long term future than COD and a stronger fanbase for it. Halo 5 may not feel unique as halo 2-3 but no games I can name today have that amount of innovation either. It's Universe can have multiple franchises in it and we have not seen the full potential of Halo. I think franchises like Killzone dream of having the potential Halo has on today's market. Just like we keep on seeing Star Wars and Star Trek movies popping up we will keep on seeing Halo games popping up. You can just reboot the franchise and tell another story for another generation. That's how successful halo CAN be. Sure, maybe the image might be a little bad by the end of it but it is not even close to the amount of money it can make and it would be bad to stop now

After all, at least halo 5 was praised for the direction they are going in multiplayer. I wouldn't call it a downward spiral just not in it's glory days of blowing everyone's mind. I don't think you'll be able to recreate the innovation of halo 1-2 in really any fps game today. Maybe another half life from valve could do that or just a entirely new franchise. But if you stack up Halo against the other current FPS franchises around it, it's looking pretty damn good.

Bungie outdid themselves time and time again with Halo. The Reach campaign was pretty lame though 'cept for the final 2 levels. 343 tries so hard in all the wrong areas. They should add the ability to stop a vehicle from splattering you in Halo 6 with proper timing using the Spartan's brute strength (not armor lock!)

XXanderXX2721d ago

Shame they couldn't out do themselves in their recent game , shame it took expansion for them to realize their game was crap.

FriedGoat2721d ago

The campaign was the best thing about reach!

Erik73572721d ago

I just want a ground breaking camapign in a single player game for Halo.

Halo 3 was the epitome of the Saga.
Followed by Halo Reach, Halo 2, Halo CE, Halo 4, Halo 5 and ODST.

crazyCoconuts1442d ago

For the time, I still think the first Halo was the most influential for me. Agreed that 2 & 3 were better games but that first Halo was fresh and new and I still remember getting into my first Warthog. And the Halo LAN parties. Good times...

lifeisgamesok1442d ago

For me it's

Halo 3
Halo 1
Halo Reach
Halo 2
Halo 4
ODST
Halo 5

isarai1442d ago (Edited 1442d ago )

For me it was:

Halo 3>Halo 2>Halo CE>>ODST>>>> reach>>>>>>4 /5

BigTrain1442d ago

For me, it will always be Halo 1. Groundbreaking in every way. Graphically, audibly, technically and gameplay wise. Any Halo thereafter never did it for me. They weren't horrible but they did not hold the precious nuggets of consistent "did you see that?!!" moments that 1 held for me. I played Halo for the single player game although the MP was great, the single player is what hit home for me. So when they released part 2 and hyped up the single player game I was severely disappointed when I got it day one and came home and beat the single player in about 3.5-4 hours. I remember being completely let down.

RamRod881441d ago

Halo 2 has the longest campaign of all the Halo games so I'm not sure how you possibly beat it in 4 hours your first playthrough.

BigTrain1440d ago

I think you need to do some research. Halo 2 does not have the longest campaign by any stretch of the imagination. I picked up the game at a midnight launch brought it home at 1am, popped it in and beat it by the time I had to leave for work the next morning which was 5:30am. My employees at the time had also done the same and we were all pissed when that infamous "Finish the Fight" scene played out and we realized the game was over. The length was one gripe but the nerfing of the pistol as well as the plasma pistol was just wrong. The staff I had at the time were all Halo fans and we all played the original SP and MP religiously. The SP was played mostly on Legendary but when we picked up part 2 we all stuck with the normal difficulty which I think might've been our mistake, we blew through the game like I said in roughly 4 hours.

RamRod881440d ago (Edited 1440d ago )

You and your friends truly are the exception because it took me about 9-10 hours my first play through. Also, if you look up the average play time for Halo 2 it's 8-9 1/2 hours. If you speed run it takes about 4 1/2 which seems silly to do especially someones first play through. Did you play Halo 3 or any other Halo games after that because Halo 2 has one of the longer story modes. Of course they nerfed the Halo 1 pistol lol. I loved that gun too, but it was OP af. Go play Halo 1 multiplayer now in MCC and all everyone uses is the pistol and it just doesn't hold up well because of it and other issues. Halo 2/3 multiplayer hold up phenomenally to this day.

2ndhandcorn1442d ago

I prefer H5 for gameplay going back to the old ones is slow and cumbersome , sure the story was better in the old games .

Concertoine1441d ago

I think halo 3 tops it for me. Can't really think of another game that made so many innovations in one installment. With theater mode, forge mode, 4 player co-op campaign. The replayability with the skulls and unlockable armor. It really felt like a next gen game at the time.

Retrospective Review: The Halo Series

Picture this. It’s 2001, The PlayStation 2 has been storming the market for a full year now and Nintendo is rapidly approaching the release of their new console, the competition is fierce with Sony and Nintendo set to battle out the generation to see who comes out on top but then a company by the name of Microsoft takes the stage and announces that they’re going to try their hand at game consoles. Microsoft gave all the info about the technical specs and how this console will be set to change the landscape of gaming, but the people only had one question, “why should I buy this?” Microsoft had only 1 answer.
