Resident Evil 7 Collector’s Edition will not include the game

GameStop Italy has recently updated the dedicated page of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. As we learn from the product description, the Collector's Edition of the title, sold at a price of 99.98 euro, will not contain the game.

This isn't a matter of physical vs digital. They aren't even including the game with the collector's edition anymore. If they want to do that, call it "bonus materials" or something, not a collector's edition. A collector's edition implies the base game plus extra goodies.

You really complaining about a version no one needs to buy? lolz. The name Resident Evil is on lots of things bud, that is like saying anything that states RE7 MUST have RE7. So all books, films, toys etc must have a copy of RE7 too or?

It's worth the hundred Euros in my opinion, plus it's a good move for people who buy digital games but still want physical loot. Also, if you actually look at the Gamestop Italy website you can bundle it with the game and get 10 Euros off the game. I preordered here in America for 179.99 With the season pass.

Previously, you had a choice of buying the basic game, or collectors editions right? And if you bought the basic version but later wished you had bought the collectors edition, you would have needed to buy the game twice right?

Well, no longer.

You buy the game, and then decide if you want the collectors pieces as an additional bolt on purchase. And you can choose to buy this bolt on purchase whenever you like without having to buy the actual game twice.

I'm maybe reading into it too much but the recent collectors editions not launching with the game leads me to believe publishers are releasing these so we can then buy the version we want rather than tying stock up in a version that may not sell as well.

Provided the content is value for money I don't see a problem doing it this way. There's also people who want the collectables but don't want the game and it allows them to stock it in a lot of other stores that may not sell games. There's also the whole line of thought that not packaging a game with it means the collectable can stay sealed and potentially earn value.

Then again I might be making all this up and it's just a clever ploy to make us spend more money.

I understand why they are not including the base game with the Collectors Edition and I personally think it's actually a good way to go. What is the definition of anything Collector's Edition? What does it mean for the owner? I always thought about it like this. If I was to buy this Collector's Edition at such a high price why wouldn't I want to keep in the plastic to hold onto for many years to come and then sell it.

The only problem with that was, I would need to purchase the game again in order for me to play the game. That plastic holds the value. Break it and devalued almost 98% of the time. From my understanding there are a lot of people who like collecting things just so they can make a profit down the line. I think a lot of Game Developers are seeing this trend. Again I personally agree that it should be implemented like this.
