Capcom Going "On the Offensive" With Three Major Games; Expects Resident Evil VII to Sell 4 Millions

Following yesterday's release of the financial results for the first half of the fiscal year (ended on September 30th), Capcom posted more details about the performance of its games, including the outlook for the rest of the fiscal year (ending on March 31st, 2017).

Capcom is the only major publisher I know that continues to make an exclusive for each hardware manufacturer

zerocarnage2755d ago

Yes and they should stop it. You would think you would want to reach as many fans new and old as possible. Restricting games to one console or another for one of payements is just like having a gun for hire, not good really and just makes it so games are only ever known by fans who own that console it is put on.

darthv722754d ago

Still curious about where Deep Down is in development. Hopefully we will see more next year.

remixx1162754d ago

I think it's just money issues.

Sony helped pay for deep down and street fighter 5.

Micro tossed so dough for Dead Rising 3 and 4

And ninty probably pays a bit for that monster hunter spice

I think Capcom is to broke to drop their ips on multiple systems at once so they get the help of the big guns to cushion the blow of development costs and or publishing for the price of timed or full exclusivity.

naruga2754d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

RE7 will fail badly and if not ....its direct sequel will 200 % ...the game is bad, has NO RELATION at all with RE and will sell only on hype, curiosity and no-related-to RE audience

_-EDMIX-_2754d ago

Have you read their finances? These guys were open to being bought out in 2014 I don't think you understand they don't really have the funds to do something like that right now.

They make those deals with Sony Microsoft and Nintendo for lots of those games because I don't really think they have much of a choice.

It's just too much of a Financial Risk if the game doesn't do well so they have to find an investor to help them out.

For you guys. Honestly believe that they're doing it on purpose or something is just laughable and it's extremely naive because it means you're not even considering they can't afford what you're now asking them to do

BizarroUltraman2754d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

I think its cool to have a company take time to make exclusives for respective consoles. I wish more teams would take that chance. I know some of these games are sometimes also funded by those big 3 companies or they have a marketing deal.

Im not one to say that every third party game needs to be on every console.
If one of the big 3 can snatch up a gane from the competitor its fair game.

NXSwitch2754d ago

FUCK reaching wider fans. Shit should stay the way it is & just make games!

Dragons Dogma needs to be released Capcom

3DS seem to be the money maker for Capcom for the past 5 years

Ck1x2754d ago

I agree the portable space is the only area where they've had consistent hits!
The home console space is where their projects are just too expensive and don't sell enough even across multiple platforms to justify the development costs.

-Foxtrot2754d ago

They'll be disappointed like they always are.

_-EDMIX-_2754d ago

Not really we don't really know how much they spent to develop the game because it's starting to look like they're not spending the same ridiculous amount of money like they did on Resident Evil 6.

If they're looking to sell four million that's actually not that huge for a Resident Evil game especially when you consider something like Resident Evil 5 sold like 9 million units.

I think 4 million is a realistic number considering this is not aimed towards the action high octane Resident Evil fans that love Resident Evil 5 and 6

-Foxtrot2754d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

Capcom think that everything they do needs to sell millions, well over what the expect to sell. Same goes for Square Enix and they always come away disappointed.

They are never satisfied even if the sales are pretty good.

SarcasticDuck2754d ago

ah, Monster Hunter... so much awesomeness wasted as Nintendo exclusives!

PurpHerbison2754d ago

Monster Hunter has been wasted awesomeness ever since it left the PS2 for the PSP. Going from PSP to 3DS didn't make anything better. Just gimped experiences.

SarcasticDuck2754d ago

yeah. i can't understand how Capcom keeps one of the best game franchises of this genre as an exlusive. Whoever's run Capcom's business, he/she doesnt know sh*t

Rangerman12082754d ago

To be fair, while I still liked the new monster hunter games (probably more than God Eater), I agree that it's disappointing that the MH Ip might not return to the PlayStation anymore. I mean, come on, the 3ds gets a badass MHG re-release/sequel while the Ps4 gets some shitty P2W mmo hunting game? Not cool.

One of the monster hunter generation I was pretty disappointed by the way, was the 3rd. I really disliked MH Tri, and while 3U is far more improved, I just can't stand the underwater controls (and Plesioth's hitboxes), and the lack of online play on the 3ds is a turn off. I wouldn't actually mind if MH3U is remastered for the Ps4. Atleast is an actual MH we can get to play. Sadly, I doubt it'll happen.

Still waiting for Deep Down, though.

MoveTheGlow2754d ago

I don't think anyone benefits from the Switch as much as Capcom, Monster Hunter was basically built for something like that.

Ck1x2754d ago

I agree and all of these people being salty about Capcom's business with Nintendo must understand that it's what's keeping Capcom afloat right now...

SarcasticDuck2754d ago

true, but that doesn't mean it doesnt have a place on Xbox/PS(/PC)

PurpHerbison2753d ago

I don't think Monster Hunter was ever supposed to be a handheld game. I think it originally had MUCH greater ambitions but this is Capcom we are talking about and they are cheap. Evident when they scrapped MH3 for the PS3 and made MHTri instead on the Wii because of development costs. Continue to use the PS2 engine on the lowest spec hardware available so no one notices. Minimum effort, maximum profit every time. This is why people get salty, anyone who started with the original MH on PS2 knows where the game should be by today and it isn't even close.

Ck1x2754d ago

The franchise has never sold on Playstation what it has on Nintendo devices, so there's that!

rezzah2754d ago

That's because it took time for the series to grow and become more recognized in the media over time.

Back when it was on PS devices, reviews were found in magazines. They were also almost always negative because the western market was not use to the series (first of its kind).

By the time MH made it to the Wii, it began spreading like wildfire online. Popularity further grew as the Wii was the highest selling console due to casual gamer interests (Wii Fit, etc). With he 3DS, well it never had any competition after the PSP began falling out of the market, thus it was the primary source for handheld gaming. News of MH during the PSP era still had gaming magazines spreading news about video games, when by the time MH made it to the 3DS, everything was online.

The franchise never sold on Playstation devices what it has on Nintendo devices because of different eras.

In the current era, the same MH title being sold on the PS4 and the WiiU would have a very different sales conclusion for varying reason (like it did before).

rezzah2754d ago

I'm still pissed off about the decision to change the console for Tri, and at this point I expect them to go bankrupt with Sony picking up the series for the PS4.

I expect to contribute to sales with DeadRising 4, a little on the fence (but most likely pick it up) with Resident Evil VII. Overall, hope both titles turn out great. Can't wait for DR4 loved DR3.

PFFT2754d ago

You and me both dude. Cant wait for DR4. And RE7 will be my birthday gift to myself since the release date is on my birthday.

Resident Evil 5 - 15 Years of Being the Most Misunderstood Resident Evil

Resident Evil 5 launched 15 years ago today - and it continues to stand as a stepping stone from the good to the bad.

TheBrainZ68d ago

One of my favourites because of the co-op. Then Resi 6 arrived and the series nosedived further.

Knightofelemia68d ago

I enjoyed the game co-oping with a friend I know the game in solo the AI can be an idiot but RE5 is way better then RE6. I played RE6 with a friend if it wasn't cheap when I got I would have avoided RE6.

thesoftware73068d ago (Edited 68d ago )

5 was excellent, still play Mercs with my brother.
I would love a fully remastered RE:5, with some added, reworked content. The DLC for 5 was also excellent.

6 was awful.

CrimsonWing6968d ago

I never understood why the game was misunderstood. It was a fantastic game at launch and is still fun today to play. It’s as action packed as Resident Evil 4 was, yet that’s regarded a masterpiece 🤷‍♂️

chobit_A5HL3Y68d ago

it was "misunderstood" because they introduced co-op into the franchise at a time when people loved to have fake rage about co-op. like, you could play the game as a solo experience, but people chose to have their bandwagon rage because it was cool at the time lol

-Foxtrot68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

What the hell are you talking about? Fake Rage? Bandwagon? Come on.

You can play it solo but you are forced to carry around a shitty AI partner you have to micro manage. It wasn't as fun solo.

Co-op sucked all the horror, tension and suspense from the game because having a partner covering you was like a safety net. Enemy trying to sneak up on you? No sweat the AI will just automatically lock on, alert you while they shoot first telling you where they are basically.

It was the start of Capcoms fall with the Resident Evil series where it basically become an over the top generic action game which betrayed it's own survival horror roots. Least RE4 had a good blend of both but Capcom just went the wrong way with RE5, especially going off what they were going to do during the RE4.5 beta phase before co-op was added.

franwex68d ago

At least the game was a ton of fun tho. If the game was bad, the outrage would’ve been justified. They simply pivoted for a couple of games. At this point it’s bad because it’s called Resident evil 5? But if was called something else it would’ve been good? Please.

chobit_A5HL3Y67d ago

like i said: fake baby rage and bandwagon hate. res4 wasn't really that scary, either, and was already taking the series into more of an action-oriented direction at the time. 5 was a good game that people fake-hated because of co-op that you didn't even have to play lol hence the fake rage and bandwagon hate. i mean, it obviously did well enough for capcom to go ahead and make 6 the way they did, right? if 5 was so bad, they would have changed what 6 was during development. the difference is that 6 was actually just bad.

people "hate" 5 because res4 was so good, and 5 was just unfortunate enough to be its successor. like i said, 4 wasn't scary, either, and relied more on tension than horror, but it was already more of an action game. if you don't wanna like 5 because it's not scary or whatever- that's fine, but it wasn't meant to be strictly a horror game anymore at that point anyways. the gameplay was a lot faster-paced than 4, so saying that the ai helping you by potentially shooting someone that was sneaking up behind you is a moot point. there were more enemies that were more aggressive, along with newer threats.

5 isn't as good as 4, but it's not a bad game by any stretch.

RNTody42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

What? I always thought RE5 had fake controversy because it was set in South Africa and you shot a bunch of black zombies. I live in South Africa and thought the game was absolutely awesome, played the whole thing co-op with my brother.

@Foxtrot I think you're confusing the garbage Dead Space 3 with Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 4 was already a hyper action game and had zero fear factor other than the grotesque appearance of some enemies.

The Greatest Video Game Comeback Stories in Gaming History

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein103d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

shinoff2183103d ago

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.
