There's a handful of things wrong with JRPGs, and here's what we have found to be wrong with almost all of them, and what can be done to improve them.
In a Game Rant interview, One Fenix Down's developer talks about how '90s RPGs influenced the development, story, and world of the game.
All North American release dates for JRPGs coming out in 2023, including softly confirmed and still to be announced titles.
Good list though. Hopefully they will keep it updated and rolling along. So many jrpgs coming out this year or so.
After 2 long years, we finally have a release window for Final Fantasy XVI. But the names behind the title, are probably largely unknown outside of the Final Fantasy XIV bubble. So allow us to introduce you to the team of Final Fantasy XVI and why you should be excited!
That's like saying Cyberpunk was automatically in good hands because the Witcher 3 was amazing and GOTY
Each new project is a a blank slate, always expect the unexpected, not everything is going to be good because the last thing the team did was.
Things are looking good. But really, we should all wait til we play it ourselves to tell if it's a good game. Ffs (not including the mmos) been needing a big W in a very long time. The remake of ff7 although good, wasn't anything amazing.
Yoshi-p did amazing with 14 but it doesn't mean they can do amazing with a sp mainline ff game.
Agreed with the horrible stories and overly complicated level up system. JRPG's seem to be moving away from the random encounters with invisible enemies so I wouldn't really complain about that.
I seriously don't care what characters wear cuz I'm not an easily triggered sensitive SJW. If I see a scantily clad man or woman in any genre, it doesn't really affect me since it's just pixels and all I care about is having a good time.
Random encounters are a series staple for many franchises. Although I love RPGs where I see every enemy on the map, I can understand why some would like to retain the feature in a series like Pokémon.
Complaining about things that haven't really been common in high quality JRPGs since 2002. Good Job.
Random encounters are still super common, but they are also nowhere near the *every 5 feet* thing that some of the worst examples had over a decade ago.
EDIT:
PS: I like nakedness. As long as it's properly contextualized, at least. Exploitative Oblgatory beach scene? Bring it on, as long as you don't get too tacky with exploitation I'll probably enjoy it, especially if it's used properly and has interesting character interactions and comes at a part in the story when we need a break from the intensity.
PPS: Yes I am a woman, I still like it. I like pretty people, I like to see a lot of pretty people. As long as the context makes sense I don't see how developers catering to those interests is a bad thing, and it's not like there is any shortage of JRPGs that don't do it.
IMO, they are primarily keeping to the old formula because that's what seems to be appreciated by their target audience. Meaning, JRPGs have not evolved very much. I have long said, back during the beginning of PS3, that Japan is no longer the genius market that it used to be, especially since so many other countries have developers that are making games that cater to a world-wide audience instead of a localized audience.
