Skyrim Hasn’t Been Officially Confirmed by Bethesda for Nintendo Switch

Even though Bethesda’s Skyrim was shown in the Nintendo Switch reveal video, Bethesda have advised that they have are not confirming any specific titles for Nintendo’s new console at this time.

Exactly, it wouldn't be there without Bethesda's knowledge but considering no more details on Switch till 2017 and the PS4/XBO versions releasing next week it's not really a surprise that they can't confirm anything.

They cancelled a few games (Crysis3, Ghost Recon f2p, etc) but i cant see them messing up with a reveal video like that. Those games were announced but Nintendo didnt really go out of their way to demonstrate them.

Theres a good chance that wasnt the NX build of Skyrim, but i think its safe to say Nintendo wouldnt put it in if they weren't expecting it.

I think Nintendo might have a deal where theyre holding back announcing Switch games, and Bethesda was just sticking to that despite the video reveal. Idk

@con- okay it was those titles I could have sworn Battlefield 3 was also one of them but I'm not sure there was ever any footage of it.

I agree I don't really think they would cancel it afterwards but to not confirm it might mean the architecture might be difficult for them and they might be holding out for Nintendo's assistance. Most game developers hate having to spend extra time and money working on a company's infrastructure if they believe it's not their fault. If Nintendo was going to use it in their marketing I think it would be a good idea for them to lend a hand if they do know that their architecture is a little difficult and likely costly.

Ubisoft and EA walked away from the Wii U. This is why a list of supporting developers means nothing until their games hit the shelves. They had declared all in and then walked later saying they would not make any more titles until sales were sufficient.

Could be the case of Bethesda getting their engine up and running on the Switch as a proof of concept, and they decided to use it in the promotional material because it is such a high profile game and shows the Switch can handle a large open-world (even if it is starting to get a bit long in the tooth). This being the "remastered" engine, I'm sure even if they don't release this game their intention was simply getting the engine working for their next release. So it is possible they won't release Skyrim, but I'd wager if they don't have to do much to get it working smoothly and with (relatively) little bugs, then they'll end up selling it.

People might rebuy Skryim for the 10th time just to be able to play it on the go lol.

Agreed because the base unit is actually a handheld I believe it's going to get the bulk of its support from Japan and I don't really think they're going to need that much support from the West to do just fine especially if they're putting all their development teams on one device finally!

Considering it's now going to be receiving the Pokemon games I believe it's going to do amazing in Japan

It probably the western publishers doing this. If you look at the Indies and Japanese Developers they are stated that they plan to announce their games or have titles coming and they want to bring their franchises to it while the Western devs all said the same thing "Congrats Nintendo, We happy to be you partner and we have no games coming to it at the moment."

If you expecting western support then might not really happen but Japanese yes. It part handheld. Japanese developers has been trying to create games for home console without sacrificing handheld audience. As you can see with all the PS4 and Vita games. Now they have nothing stopping them. They get two audiences for the sake of one game.

Which going change thing starting 2017. We are going to see a lot more PS4 and Switch combo from Japanese developers and possibly PC/Steam adding into the mix.

It is very easy to grab a video of say "Star Citizen" and play it on my PS4 and state that this is me playing "Star Citizen" on my PS4. Of course, it would be a lie but I could easily make it look realistic. However, we know that Nintendo would not stoop to such blatant lying since they could easily be found out.

Actually, Gears of War looks fantastic when played on my PS4 and I am really looking forward to playing Zelda and Metroid next. 😉

Now that I'm thinking about it maybe it's being developed for the Switch but the developers don't have a playable build of it yet. So Nintendo substituted the footage with another build of the game.

That doesn't really make any sense because I'm pretty positive them advertising Skyrim on another platform would definitely have something to do with that deal I don't think there's any deal for the Microsoft or Sony I simply think that Bethesda is not ready to confirm full support for whatever reason maybe they want Nintendo to pay for some of those development who knows.

Yeah it looked really fake even though the simulated footage was still running at what looked like sub 30 or 20fps to make it seem more grounded with what the "Actual" tech will be capable of.

The third party Nintendo partners are likely taking a low risk approach with the Nintendo Switch and not making strong commitment to the console yet. If their ports don't sell well on the console, third parties will jump ship like they did with the Wii U.

Nintendo is being misleading. There are rumors of the handheld battery life only being 3 to 4 hours on a full charge, the docking station having no other purpose than to charge the controller and connect to the tv, and that it is a handheld/console hybrid when it clearly is just a souped up 3ds... While still impressive for how small it is, i think we would be ignorant to think if in fact all the computing power is in the handheld, that it would be powerful enough to run xb1/ps4 games on the go and if it did, wouldnt the battery life take a huge hit? Like those fans would sound like the first 360 that suffered from rrod (jet engine model).

Don't feel like the presence or not of skyrim is a key issue to me. A port of a 10 year old last gen game is a nice little extra but it worries me that this is being placed front and centre for a piece of hardware launching in 2016/17 being in mind it's a PS3/360 title.

The Nintendo Switch is using an Nvidia Tegra Processor, and all Tegra Processors from the Tegra 4 on-wards are capable of native 4k gaming at 30fps-60fps and features HDR! Doesn't mean its not happening. Think about it. Before the NX was officially unveiled Nvidia had been saying for months they are moving away from video-games in favor of self driving vehicles and other things with AI. They had a investor meeting months ago and never even brought up Nintendo for instance. Anyway they ditched the Shield 2 in the process. Now after Nintendo did the reveal Nvidia is like oh yeah we helped make the Nintendo console as if they just remembered it. There is something called NDA. Companies usually stick to it but occasionally things slip out. Dragon Quest 10 and 11 come to mind. When it slipped out that those games were coming to the then NX SquareEnix was quick to say Dragon Quest was not coming to the platform but they might be interested in porting the games to it at some point. Now as if my magic those games are once again confirmed forSwitch. lol Skyrim remaster is in the same boat. Bethesda basically said they can neither confirm or deny the remaster is coming to Switch where as with other Nintendo platforms they had no problem saying it wasn't happening in the past. As for people trying to downplay this the last time Bethesda brought a game to a Nintendo platform was 2009. So the fact that they are interested in the NX is kind of a big thing.
