PS VR's literal secret weapon is the Aim Controller

Leon Hurley: "That pale and pipey design however hides its true potential, because this thing is going to make VR.

I'll be more specific: shooty VR, obviously, but using that gun in conjunction with Sony's headset is exactly how I imagined VR as a child. When you pick it up and look at it in your hands (where, in-game, it's a super cool space rifle), then peer around the world you're in, it's holodeck time.

On top of that, it's super precise - letting you aim from the hip perfectly and raise it to your eye to aim down the sights (which feels amazing). Gone are the light-gun style actions of pointing at a flat screen, or the PS3's old Move Sharp Shooter dragging a laggy, twitchy cursor around. This thing exists in the game and as part of it, moving 1:1 and letting you point and shoot with absolute clarity. It also has full FPS motion as well, using two thumbsticks on the front and back grips."

Looks pretty silly to me. But more important than looks, it actually works. Well.

Gamist2dot02759d ago

Silly in reality. Badass in virtual reality. ;)

I mean they could have made it look like a bank robber’s sawn-off shotty, a pirate’s ornate pistola or a space marine’s neon pulse rifle, but what would be the point if you’re a deep sea diver shooting a harpoon?

For me, it’s looks say a lot; it says it’s been designed with comfort and functionality front of mind. By all accounts it works and FEELS right, which can only be a great thing! :^)

this thing is going to change the way we play VR titles. I'm loving that they created a viable solution for FPSs in VR. It's important that FPSs do well in VR.

FarPoint and the Aim Controller are going to release at the same time. This thing is one of the coolest things I've seen.

This is like new ps move controller of PS4. I hope Sony releases the new move controller like PS VR Aim.

Gazondaily2759d ago

This looks sick actually. 1 to 1 movement and great accuracy. Hmm might just become a must buy for PSVR

MasterCornholio2759d ago

It looks a lot better than the sharpshooter.

andrewsquall2759d ago

At least Sony released controllers for it right out the gate at launch.

2cents2759d ago

What is that supposed to mean?

Who are you trying to take a pot shot at?

2cents2759d ago

lol.

Love your username!

S2Killinit2759d ago

I believe he is referring to oculus waiting for a long time before coming out with their motion controls.

Rhythmattic2759d ago

Its a shame the sharpshooter cant be used... As far as the idea that the tech is too old for this sort of game, why when I use move controllers in every PSVR game it has been 1:1 ?
Im sure its all about the 2nd joystick, something a sharpshooter cant employ ....

yeahright22759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

This. I loved the sharpshooter. from the moment psvr was announced I thought of two things, P.T. and using the sharpshooter to play a new resistance. pipe dreams I know, but the sharpshooter seemed like a perfect fit for psvr

From the picture though, that second joystick seems to be for your face buttons, square, O, triangle and X. If that's the case, the sharpshooter can do that.

Rhythmattic2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

As S2Kilingit linked to...
http://n4g.com/news/1972115...

Theres Def a 2nd joystick in the centre ...

StormSnooper2758d ago

It has two joysticks, the O,X,triangle, box buttons are around the joystick in the back. They are separate from the joystick. basically you have all the buttons you get with the Dualshock 4 in a really intuitive design. I really think they did a great job with this "Aim" controller. Can't wait.

StormSnooper2758d ago

I can see why this is much better suited for PSVR than the original sharpshooter though.

finally!, being waiting for this game since its announcement some years ago, so many objects on screen using physics running at 60 fps is always mesmerizing to see.

SullysCigar383d ago

Played the demo on PSVR2 - it's trippy as hell!

Knushwood Butt383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

Awesome. I had this on my PS wishlist and was going to buy it Day 1. Seen as I have Extra, now I don't need to!
PSVR2 support too.

Abnor_Mal383d ago

Platformers are not really my thing, but I guess I can try it out on PlusExtra. In VR2 to boot.

Finally! been badgering the devs on twitter for awhile now. Demo put me in a trance and i loved it.
