Driveclub VR review – low visibility (MetroUK)

The PS4’s fan favourite racer gets a new edition for the launch of the PlayStation VR, but it’s not necessarily an improvement…

The visual downgrades do affect the draw distances and and your ability to see farther down the tracks. That will definitely impact driving in VR.

To be honest the blur people are experiencing in PSVR is not unique to DriveClub, Every PSVR game I've tried so far has been somewhat blurry and soft looking. I'd liken it to wearing someones prescription glasses in many cases.

If you try and focus your eyes to resolve more detail you'll end up squinting on the screen door effect so you are best to keep your focus locked.

MadMax2763d ago

Go into psvr settings and calibrate the headset lights. Also, make sure you put the headset on properly. Shouldn't be that blurry. Driveclub is a bit blurry, not much to me. Definitely doesn't take away from the experience! Probably the funnest, most immersive and my favorite car game of all time!!! Digging it!

This is to stop motion sickness as well, Idk i feel like people just want DriveClub to always fail haha. I enjoyed and still do enjoy DriveClub VR as well as DriveClub original. People expecting DriveClub graphics in DriveClub VR are delusional and shouldn't be allowed to review haha. If they take advantage of the PS4 Pro the game can look maybe 1.5-2x better but even that's a stretch on the Pro hardware.

@MadMax exactly I think some people aren't putting it on right. You should be able to read the text clearly when you first boot up the game, if it's not clear then adjust, adjust, adjust until it is.

@solderman
I wouldn't go as far as saying everything looks blurry with PSVR, but the resolution is definitely lower than what I was expecting. Fortunately, the lower resolution doesn't affect the VR Experience at all.

The Shark Encounter from Ocean Descent, Here They Lie, and The Kitchen all scared the crap out of me because it was like I was actually in the game being attacked and the resolution made no difference what so ever.

they should have made the tracks vr friendly i hate how they are all twisty and hilly non stop that mixed in with stuck in 1st person view really make it low visibility

WeAreLegion2763d ago

It has other perspectives.

Typing this with the headset on, too!

SonyWarrior2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Ill have to check when i load it up again tonight i didnt know you could change views i managed to make the game less blurry by changing my eye distance settings so the game is very playable for me now but now i get motion sick playing it after 1 hour i think its just the harder tracks im on now though hill after hill. just got done playing for tonight and your right r1 changes views now this game is fun I played it for almost 2 hours no motion sickness at all when playing in 3rd person

All the initial hands on impressions were so positive

Maybe ps4pro can help things in this regard, hope most more devs make good use of it as only farpoint has been announced.
Oh and not sure if anybody elses psvr has this but mine has a clear uniformity problem when its on a black screen, i can see a white kind of haze and a dark linethrough it.

SniperControl2762d ago

No, not experienced that white haze with the line, strange one, only issue i have is with the drifting, give Sony a call, they might be able to help.

nitrogav2762d ago

After reading the article, the reviewer seems to think everything will be sorted when PS4 PRO comes out. Got bad news for everybody. I follow one of the main Driveclub devs on twitter and he has definitely said that Sony hasn't approached them to update Driveclub for PRO.

jp_footy22762d ago

Yeah, but he was talking about non-vr Driveclub. This is what it says on the playstation blog about Driveclub vr:

"Driveclub VR does not take the full power of the PS4 Pro, but there will be a few more visual details enabled."

SniperControl2762d ago

Ahh man, that gives me hope of playing the game the way it should be.

SniperControl2762d ago

Yeah, i heard that as well, i still have hope for Driveclub 2....but who am i kidding.

freshslicepizza2762d ago

it's a shame the game had such a terrible launch due to the online issues and also the playstation plus controversy. the game looks fantastic and hopefully sony gets driveclub 2 made even if it's by another studio.
