4 Reasons Why 'BioShock 2' is the Series' Best Game

The BioShock series was one of the most beloved of the last console generation, earning countless accolades and awards. The series is back in the news because all three games have now gotten a current-gen upgrade in BioShock: The Collection. Now is an opportune time to rediscover and reevaluate these games. You might come to the same conclusion I did: BioShock 2 is the best BioShock title of all.

It's kinda weird that Ken Levine didn't work directly on Bioshock 2.

You can see Levine's influence missing, but i think thats what makes it more unique. Levine goes for more larger-than-life stories with big twists. Bioshock 2 focused more on the characters and situations of its story.

Bioshock 2's biggest strength are good environment design (Thief 2 designer worked on it) and a ton of gameplay options.

I still think Bioshock 1 is better but 2 is still head and shoulders above Infinite imo. Underrated multiplayer, too.

I got the collection on Saturday, first time playing through Bioshock 1, and 2. The first has a plethora of issues, from crashing to freezing, to turning irresponsive when the PS button is pressed. Surprised no outlet mentioned this in their reviews.

Bioshock 2 nailed the gameplay. Its definitely the best in the series gameplay wise. And the Multiplayer was pretty dope. It was my favorite MP game last gen. Telekinesis and Revolver combo were AWESOME!

To me, Bioshock 2 is just as good as Bioshock 1.

Bioshock 1 was memorable I don't think I can recall anything about 2 for some reason...

Story wise I agree. BS1 was way more memorable than the 2nd but I definitely thought the game play was better in the 2nd. I was more fun to play.

It was the best game...you know with the worst story and was less immersive than it's predecessor and far weaker than Infinite. It was a good game but it was certainly not the best in the series.

What does Infinite do better? Its scripted as hell, there's less gameplay options, 2 weapon limit, tons of plot holes and it never lived up to the demos which showcase a completely different game.

Better story, better gameplay, better characters, Columbia was a fresh world. Sure Infinite had some problems and "booooohoooo, the developers changed the art style because the original wasn't working so they decided to do something different because it's their game and they can do what they want" isn't an excuse it's an entitled nitpick. Talk about Plot Holes? How about the fact in 2 completely blows a plot hole in 1 because Big Daddy's suddenly have Plasmids...because that made sense and all of a sudden there are Big Sisters which were absent despite how old those little sisters would have to be and how short of a time after the first it took place. Also Infinite didn't drag the story through the mud by adding in a terrible multiplayer. So it's 1 > Infinite >>>>>>>&g t;>>2's collector's edition content (which was an amazing Collector's edition I'll give it that.) >>>>>>>&g t;2

I couldn't keep playing the game...that whole playing as a big daddy thing put me off.

I couldn't get over how repetitive it was.

1. Go to a new area
2. Kill the big daddys/save little sisters
3. Extract the Adam from dead splicers while fighting off waves of enemies
4. Fight the Big Sister
5. Repeat

That's Bioshock 2 in a nutshell. Bioshock 1 and Infinite were way less repetitive

It's definitely better than the first from a gameplay standpoint, I find it more fun to play. But it is weaker from a story standpoint for sure, and I think the first game has a slightly better atmosphere.

Infinite is radically different, still a good but doesn't hold a candle to the first two.

Gameplay wise its definitely a superior game to the first. The story is more coherent as well in that it doesn't drag on and doesn't have a tacked on ending like the first(BS1 story is still far better though). Personally i hated that you played a big daddy because it removed that horror element of the first that worked so well. But considering we had already visited Rapture before, we kind of already knew what to expect, so using a big daddy as the protagonist was a logical choice.

I did enjoyed more Bioshock 2 than 1. Gameplay wise and the "dad" like situation in the story really made me care about Eleanor and give the right example with the choices made. Also it did made me think about Eleanor after the end of the game... to think if she is well somewhere else... Besides, the idea of playing a BigDaddy is really mindblowing.

I liked Bioshock 2, plus it was pretty ballsy to target communism, I suspect it had something to do with the lower ratings the game got compared to the other 2, but that's just my theory.
