PlayStation VR Review - IGN

Sony's relatively inexpensive headset brings good-quality VR to the masses.

DragonDDark2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

Nice! Now the wait begins

FPSRUSSIA2762d ago

cant wait it looks like its getting good reviews so far from what i have seen

amiga-man2762d ago

For a first dip into the VR waters, Sony have done an amazing job bringing the experience to the mass market.

PSVR is a quality product and considering the price, it stands up well to the more expensive alternatives.

Bring it on Sony.

UltraNova2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

@FPSRussia

Yeah it definitly does look good. Its a great achivement to create such a great VR HMD on a relatively underpowered console!

Edit: BTW Did you choose this name because you like the youtube guy or are you him ?

G20WLY2762d ago

Well if even IGN can't crap on the parade, you know it must be great! I'm getting one, ASAP.

fr0sty2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

It does some things better than its more expensive competition. For instance, 120hz refresh or full RGB OLED sub-pixels per pixel, rather than using two sub-pixels blended together to get the desired shade of color. Rift/Vive: 2160x1200x2 = 5,184,000 sub-pixels, PSVR: 1920x1080x3 = 6,220,800 sub pixels. This means PSVR is going to have much purer color than the competition, in addition to the 30 extra possible frames per second (and with PS4 Pro, we'll actually be able to natively push those types of frame rates in certain games).

The value for the price really is amazing.

sk8ofmnd2762d ago

Yes! Now all the haters can F off!

S2Killinit2761d ago

The comfort factor is huge. The fact that you can pop this on like a hat and jump in as opposed to having to use straps to tighten it to your head, is a big selling feature. Unlike the other devices, PSVR places zero pressure on your face, that alone will help its adoption by the mass market.

For you maybe. I've been waiting on VR for almost 30 years!

XanderZane2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

I'll be waiting at least another year or two, I wouldn't get the PSVR until I got the PS4 Pro first, so it's going to be a long wait. Good review though. Now we'll wait and see how well it sells.

The VR World Demo didn't fair so well though. Ouch. Need more PSVR game reviews.

@XanderZane How about BattleZone ?

S2Killinit2762d ago

If IGN gives them a good score imagine how good it really is.

Kingthrash3602762d ago

Haaaa^^
I swear this was my thoughts exactly lol

Genuine-User2762d ago

Nice. I'm definitely going to buy one sometime next year.

S2Killinit2762d ago

Better yet ask Santa to put it under the tree (;

Genuine-User2762d ago

If only I was a kid again :p

S2Killinit2762d ago

Hahaha true. but ima grown a** man. Im still getting gifts for christmas (:

IamTylerDurden12761d ago

I'm 30 and i got Fallout 4 plus the beautiful hardcover Vault Dwellers Guide, Fallout lunchbox, and other gaming goodies for Christmas. Never too old for gaming goodness under the tree. Luckily i have my PSVR preordered though.

MasterCornholio2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

Others gave it similar scores.

@Curb

Well they did score it on a similar level as everybody else so I don't believe they were paid to give it a good review.

CurbStompin2762d ago

I guess reading it again my comment could seem negative. In my short amount of time playing with the PSVR I really enjoyed it. So far, the reviews I have seen reflect my thoughts as well. My intentions were merely to remind everyone it is IGN.... They have to be the most biased (or paid off) review site on the web.

S2Killinit2761d ago

I agree that IGN is super biased against Playstation products. The fact that even they couldn't rain on this parade is a good sign. (and I think that's what CurbStompin meant also)

Sm00thNinja2762d ago

Hmm GameSpot and Kotaku were not as glowing glad to see IGN enjoyed it.

nX2762d ago

Gamespot and Kotaku are full of biased fanboys, you shouldn't trust them when it comes to Playstation coverage.

Sm00thNinja2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

Really? Havent ever thought of Kotaku being biased. GameSpot gave the Last of Us an 8 didn't they so I can see them. Everyone says IGN is biased against Playstation though? Everyone is biased against everything it seems

Concertoine2762d ago

Only thing kotaku's biased against is social justice.

NotanotherReboot2762d ago

Translation: "Every site that gives Sony products a bad score is biased against Sony. Evidence: none, it just helps me sleep at night."

IamTylerDurden12761d ago

Everyone is biased, it's human nature. If you don't believe that then you live in a fantasy world.

UCForce2761d ago

@Frinker You are not helping.

DaDrunkenJester2762d ago

Well IGN giving a high score to a Sony product isn't really reassuring.

IamTylerDurden12761d ago

Two sites gave it mediocre scores yet 20 sites gave it glowing reviews. I think overall PSVR is doing very well.

Sm00thNinja2761d ago (Edited 2761d ago )

Overall the PSVR is an almost unanimous success out the gate

Rhythmattic2761d ago

IamTylerDurden1
Yep, averages rate PSVR as a great bit of tech...

Garethvk37d ago

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

mariopasta37d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts37d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos37d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts37d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa37d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
