It does some things better than its more expensive competition. For instance, 120hz refresh or full RGB OLED sub-pixels per pixel, rather than using two sub-pixels blended together to get the desired shade of color. Rift/Vive: 2160x1200x2 = 5,184,000 sub-pixels, PSVR: 1920x1080x3 = 6,220,800 sub pixels. This means PSVR is going to have much purer color than the competition, in addition to the 30 extra possible frames per second (and with PS4 Pro, we'll actually be able to natively push those types of frame rates in certain games).

The value for the price really is amazing.

The comfort factor is huge. The fact that you can pop this on like a hat and jump in as opposed to having to use straps to tighten it to your head, is a big selling feature. Unlike the other devices, PSVR places zero pressure on your face, that alone will help its adoption by the mass market.

I'll be waiting at least another year or two, I wouldn't get the PSVR until I got the PS4 Pro first, so it's going to be a long wait. Good review though. Now we'll wait and see how well it sells.

I guess reading it again my comment could seem negative. In my short amount of time playing with the PSVR I really enjoyed it. So far, the reviews I have seen reflect my thoughts as well. My intentions were merely to remind everyone it is IGN.... They have to be the most biased (or paid off) review site on the web.

That's great, especially knowing that IGN doesn't seem to support Sony in the review market much. The PS4 (8.4), PS4 Slim (8.0) and PSVR( 8.5 ) it's only up from here.

While I'm not a fan of IGN, it is clear they are not biased atm. If you are looking for totally unbiased people Jim Sterling and Ben Yahtzee are the people I refer to.

I think if your considering VR this is the best option. I owned a Vive on release, Sony has games instead of proof of concept demo's. As long as the good stuff flows its all good. As much as I'd like to see AAA, as long as the hook is there - its going to be great!

Umm...... Vive has many games, just check the Steam store. In fact, I think that the number of F2P titles on Vive are more than what PSVR currently has on offer.

It is common practice for the big boys to pony up to get them early. Not everyone has them yet plus there are the embargoes which some cut deals to get first looks or early review options.

If you're Sony, you're going to choose the well established (or well trusted - not always the same) sites before you bother with the crappy little efforts like Gareth runs. He's just bitter. I wonder how many people haven't considered the evils of motion sickness with VR. It's the reason I put of a PSVR pre-order. Trying out a gear VR made my uneasy for most of a day. A lump in my chest from a dizzy feeling. It's a massive shame, as Minecraft VR is truly an amazing example of what VR should be like.

I'm predicting headlines to be based on motion sickness come release.

I think the amount of time I spent in VR in one go was less than 30minutes, pushing it to an hour if app jumping counts. If I were to take a break, I wouldn't really be playing anything.

Some people get an instant motion sickness, some don't. A friend of mine sat there till my battery died on Minecraft VR, was close to 1.5+ hours. Came out of it fine, just said eyes needed to adjust.

The motions sickeness I experienced wasn't from games where your movement point was locked (standing still looking about). It's on games where you can freely move, and use your head to walk a new direction. That's where it I felt the worse from it. Last time I tried, I had a small lump in my chest (sickness feeling) for a few hours.

I was confused by this review, there seemed to be a lot of negative aspects, and some of the negatives were quickly glossed over and they didn't spend much time talking about it. I can remember calibration talk with Kinect, the issues with the amount of space you need to use it, the wire for the Kinect on Xbox One S was "too many" and yet all of these things don't seem like issues for IGN with PSVR?

I was exited for psvr but now after seeing it giant bomb playing live i got worried the tracking is the problem and really can put you out of immersion when controller moves by itself a little bit kind a annoying i hope it's fixable, but doubt it that's the light tracking issue not software, glad that not preorder hope sony adresses the issue.

I'm thinking certain types of games are going to lend themselves better to VR. Like DriveClub. No need to track motion or use wands or experience that jitter... you could set up a wheel and it'd be some serious game time.

They're trying all different kinds of games, cause some of em sound cool in theory, but in practice, it's gonna be games like racers, mech piloting (like we see in RIGs), flying games including space (Ace Combat and Eve Valkyrie).

But as for all this other stuff... time will sort the wheat from the chaff.

Its pretty ironic how people are praising VR right now the tech itself is the only good thing about. But there is no real actual good game announced. People bash nintendo but for motion controls etc they have at least games for it. All i have seen from VR is "experiences" and as a tacked on feature to some games. We are not gonna see real VR games for a long time and especially not on VR tech right now.

I want psvr to succeed bad. I'm glad to hear the scores are all pretty much a solid B. The one thing that has me really concerned about are the move sticks. They simply weren't built for vr. Maybe sony will announce a new move stick built for vr?
I haven't tried psvr yet, so I can't give my personal opinion about it yet, it's what's mentioned in every review tho.
We just need sony to sell enough to have incentive to make another one, by then it'll definitely be a proper device.
I'm still very excited to try this out
