They say it’s “the future of gaming” and perhaps it is. But there’s no chance VR will fully and completely replace traditional play, so don’t get all worked up.
VR veteran Survios is currently working on Alien: Rogue Incursion, so we take a look back at its history of VR works.
Cloudhead Games has announced the VOIDSLAYER update for Pistol Whip, adding three new scenes in June for all supported platforms.
Recent findings in the latest PSVR2 software update, indicates that PlayStation is already starting to implement support for PC.
The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
Don't be fooled. It was never intended to replace controller and couch gaming. But it is the next LOGICAL step in gaming. Playing, interacting then immersing into the experience is the evolution of gaming. But,people like Dr. Marks have never intended to replace anything. If you follow their work, you know their intentions. This is just one example interview about PS move and quotes from the article

*Well, I think the Move is intended to be a tool to enable new game experiences and make existing experiences better.*
Do you think that gamers would be willing to give up the traditional gamepad, and do you think a company like Sony would take the risk of coming out with just PlayStation Move as the controller for the next generation PlayStation?
*RM: I don't think that makes sense. I said that pretty much from the beginning that we're not trying to get rid of the gamepad. The gamepad is a really good abstract device. It can map to so many different things. It doesn't map one-to-one to those things, but it doesn't need to for a lot of game experiences.*
*I think the DualShock, it's just better for some experiences, but the Move is better for other ones. There's just no way to combine them and just say one is the right thing to have.*
Is there anything right now specifically that you've seen that is kind of like, "Hey, that could be applied to gaming"?
*RM: Yeah. I probably couldn't talk too much about that because if it's right around the corner it's probably something we would want to keep our own under our hat.*
Snippets of questions and answers on how Dr marks thinks at PlayStation Labs which most likely represents other developers he works with at Sony. The last Q&A I posted, you can clearly see Dr marks knew what was possibly coming that they were following but couldn't talk about it. Which is things like VR. And move works perfectly for VR.
But the fear that controller gaming is being replaced is false. You can use a controller in VR. The fear that regular games will suddenly stop being made when the fact that there are tons of games coming that have no VR function included is fear mongering. It may or may not be the future of gaming. But today, it's definitely an ALTERNATIVE to HOW we play our games and view our content.
Well… in time it will change into something undefined of yet but we aren´t anywhere near that!
I don´t have a crystal ball but when VR/AR becomes untethered and selectable (on the same device), most games will probably be played through a headset type device, instead of a flat monitor in front of you. Although the interaction with people around you that could be gaming also is cut off, that´s an issue for “couch gaming with friends”.
It´s a matter of pure logic. It requires less space and power requirements compared to a large TV or monitor, portable or at least transportable. Certainly more immersive and less disruptive for people surrounding you (in case of a household).
There is a lot more to be resolved, discovered, experimented and established before we get there but it´s going to be an interesting ride. I´m hesitantly optimistic but also cautiously awaiting (with my wallet safely tucked away).
It won't but it's nice having VR as an option.

I dont think anyone ever thought it would... Just like 3d gaming, people will tire of the gimmick and go back to playing games normally.
