I'm not because I have no stake in the game. I don't get all this incessant fanboy whining about sales and resolution this gen. The reality is, I just hope I like the game, nothing more. All evidence leads me to believe it will be no ICO level game, but we'll see. If I enjoy the game then sales, reviews or any other measure unrelated to my enjoyment of the game are irrelevant. Now, if it's a bad game, which could happen I suppose, then it'll probably still sell well given the years of hype and exposure this game has been given. So I doubt it will fail commercially. Critically it could go either way though.

And secondly, Sean Murray went out and talked media by himself because he didn't have his own PR marketing. The Last Guardian is different. Well there's no way how it can top The Order 1886 negative reception. Personally I enjoyed it for what it was but many people criticized to to oblivion. People had their expectations far too high with that one. But with Last Guardian I think its getting the right amount of hype/marketing. They aren't over doing it, in fact I think the consumer's experience are going to speak louder than the official reviews when it is released, similar to what happened with Until Dawn which was a fantastic game.

1) Where do you get 15 years from?

Shadow of the Colossus came out in 2005. The Last Guardian was leaked/announced in 2008.

- If you count *waiting* for the next game as hype, then it's 10 years at most.
- If you count its announcement as beginning of the hype train, then it's 8 years at most.

2) Ico and Shadow of the Colossus remain masterpieces of game design even though their raw graphics and gameplay are "outdated". They are still as of now, some of the best games ever made. The Last Guardian houses the same qualities. The HD Collection of Ico / Shadow of the Colossus on PS3 was reviewed on the remarkable and timeless aspects of both games, and it scored a 92 on Metacritic, a mere 5 years ago, let alone 15 of them.

It doesn't matter what you think, because you're wrong.

Having said that, disingenuous fanboys like yourself will call The Last Guardian a flop even if it sells 1 million, which is roughly what both Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 sold, and the HD collection on PS3 sold.

So realistically it's not going to flop unless it only sells 500,000 lifetime copies - unlikely.

Active development has not been ongoing for more than 5 years, and it's a small team with a smaller budget, so they'll easily recoup investment on the project. And Sony will have another "feather" in its cap as the only console manufacturer that truly cares about timeless concepts like this, and cares about selling them to as many people as the concept will support.

Additionally, what indie devs these days are making games of the calibre of Fumito Ueda? You'll find zero.

And if you're talking about "credits" (whatever that means), maybe you mean ratings? If the game makes me feel the same way as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, then we have a winner. There is no such a thing like an outdated graphics nor gameplay in gaming world because gamers consider old stuff as classics and originals, and still classics are doing fine even in this generation. Check out remasters & Indies for an example, they are doing very well compared to some triple A games such as QB.
Limbo success wasn't related to it's graphics nor it's gameplay either, what made it perfect was its puzzling ideas and atmosphere. So many key elements to push sales & success in gaming. Besides, TLG looks sweet in term of graphics and gameplay too.

Here's the thing: it's Team Ico and it's been in development Hell for essentially a decade. It's at the point where it can't possibly live up to its hype, but I suspect it'll still be not simply a game, but an experience. As long as you remember that it's a game and not the second coming, you should still have a great experience. If you try to experience it while recalling its development cycle, I think you'll become cynical and that'll take away from the game.

This damned game was supposed to debut along with the PS3. The graphics are not that great. The story might be there still. Cold hard truth. I only played SOTC, and I loved it even for its rough controls. If they try those controls in this era, however, it's not gonna fly. It's engine looks wildly dated, so the art direction is all it currently has going for it (for somebody like me who has never played its demos). The story, controls, and set pieces need to come together to make it as relevant as it needs to be. That's up to the developers, not us.

3 million is not poor for a game like this. I'll explain:

1) Shadow of the Colossus only sold around 1 million copies on PS2, and is among the video game pantheon.

2) Team Ico HD Collection sold around the same amount, and was considered a critical and commercial success.

3) The Last Guardian has only been in active development for around 5 years, created by a VERY small team on a smaller than average Sony WWS budget. Breaking even won't be difficult.

The Ico / Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection was released to critical fanfare and a 92/100 Metascore back in 2011, so I can't wait to see "journalists" trip over themselves to call this game out for the same things that were praised a mere 5 years ago, and even that was a combined 16 years after both games originally came out.

I would think that masterpieces such as these get better with age, and that those who still value these games would be fair to assess the same qualities that are present in The Last Guardian.

What's the definition here? Will it sell a million copies in the first week and be praised unanimously? No. Remember, Ico was a PS1 game mostly ported to PS2 and it's utterly fantastic. SoTC ran at 15-25fps most of the time and is one of the greatest games ever made. Well, for those that like the games. Neither were stunning in any visual sense beyond the art style, lighting style, etc.

They have released beloved games that didn't necessarily feel "current gen", have eye-popping realistic visuals, etc. I'm ready to feel like I'm playing a PS3 title but I still play my PS3 so I don't care even a tiny bit.

HOWEVER, there is a level of understanding that fans of the previous games have issued concerns and that carries weight. We'll see. The only way I don't buy it is if it's universally butchered in review. If literally everyone but the most diehard Ueda-fanboys are dumping on it I'll avoid it, sadly. SO SADLY but I will. If fans all say it's worthy but IGN/etc give it a 6/10 I'm buying without hesitation.

Nope. I do not subscribe to 'concern trolling'. Fumito Ueda's emotionally driven games have been great. Inspired many games since then, like Journey and ABZU.

I look forward to getting fully immersed in this one, and have a box of tissues handy.

That all depends on the platforms fan base if the game fails , so till then guess you will have to wait for sale figures to decide if it failed or not .

The story is what I'm interested in, which has most probably already been written/planned since Ico.
The gameplay is a bonus, as it usually brought something unique to the table.

It'll be a game for me & that's what's most important.

Team ICO games were always known for their dynamic physic and graphics showcases, but lets be realistic about this game's presentation. Had this game come out last generation like originally planned, then none of us would be worrying. The graphics bar has been raised significantly higher since then and the reality is that what we've seen so far isn't blowing us away.

I doubt it will be a system seller as it was always going to be a cult classic, but I'm looking forward to it. As long as it's good I'll support it. If it ends up being criminally underrated like its predecessors that would be a crime against unique IPs but it wouldn't be anything new, least of all for this series.

I'm looking forward to it, though there are probably a lot of people riding the hype train on this one and no game could live up to the hype of a generation and a half. Those ready to take it for what it is will probably like it. However the hype high crowd has a tendency to really hurt games and journalists attacking games before they are even out doesn't help either.

No, I think that is gonna be mostly for Final Fantasy 15.

Every demo was very boring and poorly optimized. I played a demo 2 days ago made for a convention that I went to.

It ran and looked horrible. Not a good 4th first impression.

But I am sure people are gonna defend the hell out of it, cause it's Final Fantasy even though the main games have been poor the last few years.

Game looks great. If it is even remotely similar to SotC or Ico, then it will be 8-10/10. Team Ico knows how to make art in digital game form and their games stand the trial of life. SotC is fantastic and one of the most artistically beautiful games ever made and have actually started replaying it again and it ages really well on an emulator (own 2 copies of the game PS3 and OG PS2 game so don't complain about emulation).
