Silent Hill 2: 15 horrifying truths you (probably) never knew

It's hard to believe that Konami's sanity-stretching psychological horror game is a whopping 15 years old. Released on September 24, 2001 Silent Hill 2 felt terrifyingly modern, pioneering concepts still used to unhinge players today.

I remember playing this and dying over and over on pyramid head at the beginning only to realize I was only supposed to run around and survive lol. I love this game and its a classic but man that pyramid head fight was frustrating, those were the good ole days of gaming.

Yeah, games back in the early 2000s didn't hold your hand most of the time, which gave people the opportunity to self discover. These days, many games tell you what to do and where to go in a "very" linear experience!

Sad, but true. If there's one thing I really hate about modern games, it's how many hints they give you if you fail something multiple times or take too long to find something. Sometimes i just wanna discover it by myself. Not have the game hand-hold me if it think I'm not completing an objective fast enough.

Agree with both of you. It’s particularly annoying when you walk into a new area with an NPC. I just want to explore first, but no, they’re like, “hey over here, I found the way out”, or “help me lift this”. How ‘bout you fuck off and let me play my game? So you carry on looking around and then it’s, “what are you doing, I’m over here” or “hurry, there’s no time to waste” every 5 seconds! If I want a hint, I’ll ask for one, just give me a hint button and leave me the fuck alone lol

Silent Hill 2 is still the best Silent Hill game. Though the one random origins fact is really out of place for a list about Silent Hill 2. Shattered Memories, SH2 and Sh3 will always be the best games in the series, we could have had another amazing one too if Konami didn't hate money and respect. Really want a strong horror game (especially with Halloween coming up) but there hasn't been anything new (or good) recently and the few that there has been I've played. Suppose it's not THAT long until January when we get the rebirth of Resident Evil. Hopefully a PSVR bundle will be announced soon so I can know how much to save for.

Yes this was a great game. I still play it every now and then there was nothing like it. I'll go as far as to say that silent Hill is a way better game than resident eveil.as a whole franchise. 2 was great, 3 was good, homecoming was good as well too and origins was also another great silent Hill game bUT it was too short, way too short.
