One can only wonder how Capcom will continue the series

WushuKnight192775d ago

Give the IP to Ninja Theory or better yet Platinum Games. I don't think the series should be in the hands of Capcom of today.

xDealtwithIt2775d ago

Give it to Ninja Theory? God in heaven no!

WushuKnight192775d ago (Edited 2775d ago )

Sorry, actually loved the hell out of DmC. Especially the DE which made it now my second, if not my MOST DMC game I've played so far. After all the backlash, it actually turned out be a incredible game (DMC'ish or not). But I would love the original series to go on. As long as it's not staring Nero. And like I said. It's better in PG's hands, but having it with Ninja Theory is not at all bad.

kraenk122775d ago

Their game was much better imho.

WildArmed2775d ago (Edited 2775d ago )

My main issue w/ DmC was the dumb design centered around blue goes with blue, and red goes with red (Or was it vice versa?)

Regardless, that ruined the flow of the game. A franchise that touted flexibility -- play with any weapon and against anything -- was ruined when it was like... or gotta hold R1 noooww.

Sure they fixed that in the DE, but that killed the game for me. I enjoyed DMC4 more than this because of it.

Plus, other games offered more combos per weapon (mainly thanks to the swordmaster style)

WushuKnight192775d ago

I guess I'm one of the very few players who were ok with the design. Though wished the Vanilla version was similar like in DMC1 where the Frost received very little damage with the wrong weapons, and don't get staggered. But part of what I like and just use to with DMC is having enemies limit me on doing the same combo over and over again to kill every enemy, but still find other ways to strategies and keep the flop of the gameplay being fast-paced. Trying more and more to be precise on weapon switching like my gameplay here at 11:26 https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Not saying at all that anyone who disliked it should get better. I understand why people would dislike it. Especially when both the Hell/Frost Knights are next to each other, one of them attacks and you hit the wrong one, and then you get hit. But I was still ok with it, I did find other ways around it. And I ended up enjoying fighting this enemies.

Adrian_v012774d ago

My issue was the characters besides the combat. The constant cursing and sexual implications was just bad. The moment Virgil said to Dante "but I've got a bigger dick" was the moment I've said "yup, not playing this any further".

xDealtwithIt2775d ago

@Wushu, I respect your opinion. Gameplay was great but for me it just lacked that certain appeal the original series had.

_-EDMIX-_2774d ago

No.

I see no reason to "give" it to Platinum, contract it to them....sure.

Ninja Theory....GOD NO! I agree Capcom just doesn't have the team to make an ACE DMC today, but I don't agree in them merely giving the IP to any team.

Capcom still has money to make. Contract, outsource it to a better team etc.

WildArmed2774d ago

Saw the video, I see your point. Typically when I switch weapons in a game, it was to continue a combo in a certain direction (like I need to pull an enemy up so I can kill him while enemies on the floor charge attack). So when they forced this color match, it kinda miffed me, maybe a lil' too unreasonably.

I have wanted to try DmC DE edition (since I hear they fixed my biggest issues with the game), but I ended up getting DMC4 DE edition instead.

I can forgive a lot of things (characters, plot, settings etc) in a fighting game, but combat is something i am pretty picky about -- also I understand this isn't the first game to do this rock-paper-scissors (see GoW), but it's never been so damn frustrating like the cases you mentioned. in GoW, it was like just switch to XYZ and kill them all. But in this you had to switch between combos/mobs even lol Maybe that was their idea of making it more complex, but I just found it frustrating (esp when camera angles failed)

Hey, that's my wallpaper! I haven't changed it since '07 XD

I've actually been replaying DMC1 lately. Think I'm at ch10ish right now, camera was messier than I remember.

I actually liked Ninja Theory's take on the series so much more!

FFXVI’s Combat Proves It's Time For Another Capcom Remake

With Final Fantasy XVI committing fully to fast-paced action gameplay, it may finally be time for a new remake series of a classic Capcom franchise: Devil May Cry. As the franchise that essentially originated the particular style of 3D action combat that the upcoming Final Fantasy is making heavy use of, Devil May Cry could very well be due for a remake, or even a series of remakes, to address certain flaws and more dated aspects of its classic games, similarly to the popular modern remakes for Capcom's Resident Evil series.

How can combat from one franchise be proof for a subjective opinion on another?

SeTTriP372d ago

Makes no sense to me either

lucian229372d ago

why in the hell would we need a remake of devil may cry when devil may cry 5 was great? We just need devil may cry 6 ; not a remake, enough with the remakes

jambola372d ago

Yeah I mean, no insult to the franchise but it's not like the story or location of the first was so top tier that we need to go back to it

lucian229370d ago

yeah rather progress with story where it is

Pepsi_Man3000372d ago

I'd much prefer we get new games that have such combat. Enough with the remakes. At least move forward if you want more of the same series

Elda372d ago

No remakes. The next installment of DMC would suffice.

CrimsonWing69372d ago

Why not a sequel? Why do we run to "needs a Remake" all the time now. I'd rather have the original and then a brand new entry instead of the original and the original but remade.

It's Time for a New Mainline Devil May Cry Game

With DMC5's four-year anniversary passing and the increased relevance of its genre, now could be the best time for a new Devil May Cry game.

They are working on Dragons Dogma 2

BISHOP-BRASIL403d ago

Never heard about it, but boy do I hope you are right! Dragon's Dogma was great!

Was a very anticlimactic announcement, but it's official!

Gridknac403d ago

I am super surprised that a total remake of the first DMC, in the vein of the latest Resident Evil titles, hasn't been revealed.

MIDGETonSTILTS17403d ago

It was at least a decade between 4 and 5, so keep holding your breath ;)

cbuc1125403d ago (Edited 403d ago )

Exactly...these games don't come out often.

Furesis403d ago

Right, surely there wasn't anything else that was the cause for that...

FallenAngel1984403d ago

DmC released between those titles. Even if it’s its own continuity it still showed Capcom was interested in the series

Capcom is banging out the RE series. I would Love a new Onimusha and Power Stone from Capcom.

thejigisup403d ago

Well sh*t while we're at it let's get a remake of MvC2. Honestly Devil May Cry was one of my favorite games and I really didn't like the tonal shift too much as the series progressed. Now would be a good time to return to DMC 1 and do a soft reboot from there keeping the tone dark. I would also be 100% down for a game based on the story of Sparda.

Fable Co-Creator Says He 'Ripped Off' Devil May Cry to Create the Xbox RPG's World

Fable co-creator Dene Carter turned to Devil May Cry for an idea of scope when developing the 2004 hit action RPG.

CrimsonIdol535d ago

"Look to your peers", "stand on the shoulders of giants", "don't re-invent the wheel". Or in far more blunt down-to-earth British dev terminology: "rip it off" hahaha

Eonjay534d ago

I mean I agree with his sentiment of not reinventing the wheel. Imagine if every physicist, for example, had to derive the equations of relativity from scratch every time they were looking to make a discovery. We would never get anywhere. This isn't the same thing as straight up plagiarism of course.

CrimsonIdol533d ago

Oh yeah, I imagine there would be very few major games developed in the last 20 years that didn't copy things that worked from previous games in terms of structure and design. The blunt language just made me smile. And I guess opens him up to some click-bait titles.
