PS4 Slim Helps PS4 Sell 96,433 Units in Japan in a Week; Persona 5 Debuts with 337,767 Units Sold

In the past few weeks the PS4 has been selling really low weekly amounts in Japan due to a shortage caused by Sony preparing to launch the new slim model, but last week (on September 15th) the CUH-2000 console finally hit the local shelves.

That's pretty good. By the way, I think people need to understand that PS4 Slim is for people want to buy a cheap price. Maybe I have to buy PS4 Slim for my older brother because he's married and he's huge fan of PES.

Edit : By the way, who said Japanese game doesn't matter, huh ? Name one person who said that Japanese game doesn't matter. I'm not joking, I want that person responds to my comments so I can give them a reason. Like seriously, it just make me upset that people look Japanese games like it wasn't there in the first place. And this is not personal attack or something like that, I want people need to understand that Japanese game is still video game. Defination of video game is can be everything . David Cage games is also a game no matter how you think. If You want to create a cinematic game for story telling and character development then go ahead. Or if you want to create game to have fun, then go ahead.

PS4 - 264,793 units
PS3 - 72,974 units

It's still pretty impressive in Japan. I hope people need to realize that console is still important in Japan, not just America.

Edit : @Donate It isn't fact. It subjective to you. Japan game is still important as US. You use your opinion to turn into your agenda. That's a low from you.

Sony sold over 1.5 million PS4s there so the market is still important to them.

@Badz

Oops

I guess I meant over 3 million.

Thanks for the correction

@MasterCornholio

1.5mil units? dude you're missing the mark by 100%! next week numbers will defintely pull the PS4 ahead of the Wii U in Japan and the total world domination is complete!

donthate2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

Considering Japan was the world center for consoles and had the majority market, whereas now it isn't barely a 5% of the worldwide market, i would say Japan is insignificant.

Worldwide there is 60+ million consoles between MS and Sony to put that in perspective, whereas Japan only has 3 million of that.

Consoles are dead in Japan, and they all but moved to handhelds, and even that is migrating towards mobile platform. Hence why Nintendo is going there instead of competing with MS/Sony directly. Facts are facts.

rainslacker2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

@donthate

Think you meant to say that the Xbox brand is insignificant(or dead) in Japan. PS4 has approximately 40 million sold worldwide, and 3 million in japan. Japan makes up 7.5% of PS4 sales, and PS4 sales make up roughly 66% of worldwide console sales.

Now, I'm no business major, but 7.5% of a systems sales being in an individual region tends to mean it's significant.

To put it in perspective. Last year, gaming revenues across the board were 76 billion. 5% of that is 1.5 billion dollars.

Wanna know how significant the console market is in Japan? Well, for Atlus, they just sold 337K copies of a game. That's pretty significant.

Here's a thought. Maybe if Xbox fan boys stopped saying Japan doesn't matter, more Japanese people wouldn't be put off by the Xbox. In the same way many people are put off by people from the PC Master race, when you dismiss a whole market because it doesn't serve your console war prioritites, that market tends to think the people who play on a particular console are nothing but a**holes.

Sure, console sales are declining in Japan, but they aren't dead.

donthate2781d ago

rain:

Contrast that 7.5% (with your mental gymnastics) with 50% it used to be. Yeah, next generation it will be what? 2%, nah 3%.

337k copies of a game? Yeah, the US sells millions easily. Heck, there are countries in Europe that sell more than Japan.

Point being, Japan is heading towards relevancy faster than the implosion of Sony so far which is quite ironic.

Thats pretty impressive for Japan.

@Angel

I corrected my mistake.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Angeljuice2782d ago

1.5 million? Sony have sold 3,217,591 PS4's in Japan (according to the article).

DialgaMarine2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

@MasterCornholio Sony has actually sold over 3 million PS4 units in Japan. They passed that mark back in mid-July. With this news, it's probably around 3.3 million now.

MasterCornholio2782d ago

I saw that.

Thanks for pointing that out though. I corrected my original comment to reflect that

Fatal-Aim2782d ago

Xbox is about to lose that good ol' winning streak if the numbers are looking like this in Japan.

Now imagine in the rest of the world where the PS4 sells a lot more than Japan... super sky high sales. I personally can't wait for the PRO, gotta take advantage of all that power thanks to my 4K TV.

Teflon022782d ago

Persona 4 Golden sold like 1.1 or 1.2 million on Vita physical so imagine what ps4 sales will be. Hope it atleast hits 3 mill lifetime. But I think it'll be 2.25 honestly maybe more since wom will probably do it justice like it did p4g

iNathan2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

But don´t forget guys that nobody wants a Ps4 Slim and it was a stupid move, so stupid that Ps4 had the biggest week since launch and Pro isn´t even out yet.

DialgaMarine2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

You gotta love the Xbox fanboy youtube channels and click bait sites that somehow get their crap approved on N4G. They're so out of touch with reality and honestly believe they speak the opinions for everyone. The only reason to pay any attention to their content is if you have a lot of popcorn on hand and already blew through all your tagged shows on Netflix lol

Kiwi662782d ago

Its not just the xbox clickbait sites that get their rubbish approved though as you see it for the other consoles also and its usually submitted from those who use them to trash the consoles etc to feed the fanboys

rainslacker2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

Imagine what's going to happen when FFXV or GT(very popular in Japan) finally drops.

xetiro2782d ago (Edited 2782d ago )

Actually since the week in Japan start counting from Sunday to Saturday and the PS4 Slim was released on a Thursday, that is almost 100K in 3 days of sales.

Sea of stars while seeming pretty good so far doesn't belong in the top rpg discussion. There's way better ones. I'd tell them to play star ocean 2. One of the best non turn based rpgs ever. It has everything.

raWfodog137d ago

And if the list is limited to just turn-based RPGs, I can think of better ones to add to this list. You have the Dragon Quest series, the Trails series…Persona 5 Royale is on the list but why limit it to just that one? P3 and P4 were great as well.

Zenzuu138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, or the Shadow Hearts games has decent enjoyable turn based combat system.

Would be plus+1 more if they'd settle the fk down and stop re releasing it. I'm waiting on the definitive one over here

BrainSyphoned317d ago

It's ok, I bought 4 to your zero, they don't need your pity purchase. Every version was definitive and has their own perks.
