Actually, I never saw what was so bad about Rookiemonster. I've been coming to this site for many years and Rookiemonster always seemed kind of mild or middle-of-the-road as far as fanboys go around these parts.

He clearly had a favorite console, but he still said good things about the other consoles. And his preference for Xbox more often than not showed up as an excitement for that platform and games, rather than a hateful antagonism toward the other consoles. I can't say the same about a lot of the other fanboys on this site who do go out of their way to attack and downplay every platform other than their favorite, and who basically shove their preference down everyone else's throat.

As far as his banning, I really can't speak to that. It's not my place to decide. I'm only speaking of what I saw as a frequent visitor to this site.

It happened somewhere around E3 time and whatever it was about must have been pretty severe to get a permaban resulting in him trying to get back in under various alternate ID's. People on this site tend to take things way to seriously. It's a gaming site for crying out loud.

Now, back to the main topic. For the XB1 to have such good sales tells me they found a nice balance of price to performance with sales of older models being attractive to some and sales of new units being attractive to others. The same will hold true for the PS4 slim and Pro once those release. Pro, I feel, will appeal more to the existing users who want to stay up to date with current systems while the slim will appeal to new comers.

The older XB1 were probably bought by new adopters while the XB1S were probably bought by existing users who want to be current as well. It's good to see things be positive as it shows there really can be a coexistence between platforms and gamers alike.

A 100,000 unit difference is absolutely huge in the month of August.

I would think that the run up to the new PS4's probably froze sales a bit on Sony's side knowing a new console was on its way.

I think XB also did really good sales considering that most S consoles were premium and white versions.

The $250 versions I don't think played in much. Frankly, the old consoles are big, bulky, and I would rather spend the extra $50 on a XB1S then buy the first XB1.

yeah I Dont see many people rushing out for the slim, it's more like the more common sku, replacing old models, and the pro is the big release. the slim doesn't need to do much else than be slim, since Sony fans don't need to wait 14 months for their upgrade... the Scorpio should have just been announced as a new console, that is backward compatible to the xbone to wipe the slate clean and try again, getting a year head start on sonys next console like thr 360 did... Sony did overtake 360 but the price gap and year head start helped MS actually take some market share from the PS2 and keep the momentum in the US and UK.

Everyone's had bluray players in their homes now for almost 10 years. 4k bluray vs. regular bluray isnt the same as DVD vs. bluray(as far as public perception is concerned) and it seems the general perception of getting a new flat panel for 4k is "meh" compared to the benefits of upgrading from a tube tv to a 1080 flat screen.

Take a look into that again... The PS4 slim & the pro doesn't have a 4k blu-ray drive. It streams 4k blu-ray.

The games are upscaled to 4k on the Pro & HDR support was added to the OG PS4 in the new update.

hardware upscaling from 1440-1800p to "4k" is completely different to what the xb1 does, which is upscale from 1080 AT BEST to 4k. Most XB1 games dont achieve 1080 native. HINT: Most decent TVs will do that for you. Literally the ONLY feature the xb1 has is the 4k discs, which, are super expensive and just not worth the hassle for the vast majority of people with internet speeds over 20mb/s(DSL) who can stream 4k content. sony made this judgement call not from a random guess, it was from facts.

100K is still too large a gap though. If anything the XO sold a lot in August cause of the XO S model. Either way it did it on its own merit.

If it didn't do on its own merit and so many people were merely waiting for Sony's conference, then the 3DS would've sold more than PS4 like it did the month prior.

Definitely! I can see another uptick in sales for xb1s from people who were waiting on ps4 slim reveal and decided to xbox after that. Then there's everyone who will pick up the ps slim. It's gonna be very interesting to see how it plays out. So far though, nothing out of the ordinary has happened. I think everyone guessed an npd victory for xbox in August due to the new SKU. I'm guessing a September win for playstation because there's a lot of momentum behind ps4 still so the slim will push that forward again.

I'm a playstation enthusiast (not fanboy) but at this point I just wish the best of luck for the xbox and that they can recover from the huge difference because I feel sony has been sleeping under the tree a lot lately due to the big gap, in sales, rightfully gotten.

@MoonConquistador I chose the wrong words, I never meant to say that the ps3 was bad, I still own 2, a launch 60gb 'full extras' model and the first slim and I love 'em, but the "how" they launched it was a disaster. Over the time the ps3 became a great console and even media center if you like but the pricing and the quality (at the beginning) did not followed the promises, until they unlock the full potential to devs. And one of their mistakes was the constant push of the 3D and we all know how it ended up.

For me, they focusing way too much in 4k, seems they're simply trying to follow a "trend" but that they can't match for now, there's a lot of high-end pc's that cannot deliver 4k properly so I'm pretty sure the ps4 pro won't either, so why bother with 4k now then?

This is why I believe that they're not in "for the players" because I prefer having 1080p60fps with eye candy visuals and super smooth experience, and I'm pretty sure that almost all players do, 4k is a very limited niche market for now and they need to focus on the masses.

@Vitology - everybody gauges success on different aspects. The PS3 gave me so much as a console and blu ray player all for £425 on launch day and I spent most of my time enjoying Motorstorm and Resistance Fall of Man. That kept me going until COD:MW, uncharted and LBP etc.

The PS2 had a similar dearth of games at launch, most consoles do, so even taking on board your points, I was more than happy with the PS3 launch. It was a huge step up from my PS2.

The launch I've been least happy with has been my PS4 only because it lacked the media centre functions which had (over time) became so great on my previous console. I upgraded yet lost much loved features and I still don't know if I'll ever see a new motorstorm game.

I'd also disagree with the "focussed to much on 4K" comment. There's a steady stream of great games coming and Sony seems to have me sorted for getting into VR before Christmas. The new UI update is also a step forward. At least you won't be left behind with Sony releasing their new hardware, that's one point they deserve big kudos for.

Xbox one s is the better value on paper line by line. On top of that their aggressive pricing (I was able to get one this week for 250 at target) will have them on top. Because there aren't enough games coming out to separating them, IMO the ps slim should come down in price but we all know that is not going to happen.

Xbox could win the NPD. But you also have to factor in that the ps4 is now 300 and releasing games like Persona 5 in Japan which will widen the gap even more worldwide. Only time will tell.

If you have an Xbox, you have Xbox Live. This is how it has always been. Its an online console for online gamers. A lot of ppl on ps4 just don't use online services, because they got 0 MP exclusive worth playing. Most of the COD/FIFA players got ps+, but a huge chunk doesn't play online.

This is only in the U.S. so fix your title. PS4 continues to dominate world wide since launch. Despite many are waiting to get the new Slim and Pro models. I wonder how november will play out. PS4 Pro GPU ( 4.2 teraflops) is 3 times more powerful than Xbox One S ( 1.4 teraflops) not to mention faster CPU and RAM.

As soon as we dropped our PS4 price by $50 to clear out the old version every store in my city sold out. I imagine this month will be a good one for PS4 sales. Considering I still get stock at low prices of the older Xbox systems and still haven't sold through.

It took our company 1 1/2 week to sell through PS4 stock. We were told no more stock till the Slim. So many of our stores had no PS4 to sell the last 3-4 days till the slim arrived. Unlike our initial Xbox S shipment of 10 or so units we got a whole pallet worth of PS4's.

Well, the vast majority of XBS sales were from current XB1 owners, so even though the XB1 trails the ps4 in sales, if nearly every one of them buy another console the numbers will seem impressive. But the amount of unique xb1 players probably bearly went up. If anything the numbers rise from people wanting a cheaper 4k UHD player that could also play games.

Its going to be eye opening to re-buyers in xcamp celebrating over circle-jerk sales increases when the Pro launches and a huge chunk of current ps4 owners by another console.

This was kind of expected with MS doing such heavy marketing for the S, almost as if it were it's own console, and selling the vanilla Xbones so cheaply for stock clearance. I can see them beating Sony in September NPD, but with the PS4 slim releasing this month, I don't see the gap being nearly as big.
