How come the early adopters and players who pay for DLC always get the short end of the stick. No reward for supporting a game from the get go.

RosweeSon2809d ago

So the early adopters are still getting stung, tis why I don't buy season passes or this type of guff, online dlc just sucks, no one buys it can never find a player and you end up with wasted money stuck on your hard drive... Star Wars battlefront season pass nearly half price? Tempted but when there's a number 2 due out within the year and no doubt this will end up free at some point or even more heavily reduced, majority of the game is stuck in the season pass. Piss take really.

Utalkin2me2809d ago

@RosweeSon

Getting stung? How so. The get to play it when it releases. You just think youre entitled to whatever i assume. Again dont like it then dont buy it and the people that have bought it will enjoy it. You can play it for free once its dead and gone.

Kleptic2809d ago

I can't tell if some of these guys are serious...

What 3 year old product keeps the same price as when it hits the market? This is like the most fundamental business concept surrounding 'selling things'...

go find a car from 2013...say it's still 'brand new', never purchased/not used, etc....

you honestly think the seller would expect the same price that others paid for the exact same car years ago? Absolutely not, in fact, they purposely start discounting inventory to get rid of it to make room for 2014, 2015, etc.

Same for entertainment...Happens with movies, happens with music, happens with games...BF4 isn't some magically sought after game that could even dream of maintaining its initial price...There were sales within 6 months (probably because it was on fire, but w/e)...

innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority, laggards...and the prices each pay for products...is as simple as marketing gets...Seeing people surprised by old things being cheaper or given away...is troubling...

USMC_POLICE2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

I bought the season pass on launch day, I paid almost $100 to play this game and all DLC for almost 3 years and don't feel I got the short end of the stick. I think it's gamers sense of entitlement that is the issue.

yeahokwhatever2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

entitlement is getting shit for free which others payed for because "fair".

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

Agreed. It takes time to learn all the maps in to do well on all the different play types to the point we're getting it now for free also means you missed out on years of learning all those Maps nuances I'm going to play the crap out of all these maps for the next month before Battlefield 1 but I definitely know I would have enjoyed it much more that I purchased it years ago and learned all the maps.

But I chose to skip the downloadable content for this game simply because I wasn't playing it as much as I was playing other titles

Pandamobile2809d ago

Yeah, what?

Your reward is playing the damn game and not having to wait 3 years for it to become free.

Edvin19842809d ago

Short end of the stick? You got to play and access this content for 3 years long.... wtf when is enough enough for you people? The entitlement is through the roof, and I just do not understand this way of thinking.

yeahokwhatever2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

umm he's RIGHT. the entitled people are people like you who think that everyone should just have what others paid for. It's basically affirming that their DLC has 0 value for their customers. EA needs to apologize for not selling the DLC as only paying for early access to a free product.

EDIT: none of the above needs to be mandated. It's their product and they can sell it however they want. they should just know customers like me are just going to wait 3 years to play BF1.

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

@yea- I don't understand? When did you purchase the DLC with the understanding that you are purchasing it to keep it away from someone else? You purchase this DLC to play something and you're able to play it somebody else getting it for free is absolutely irrelevant.

Buddy if you want to wait 3 years to play Battlefield 1 DLC for free that's your choice you have the free will to do so you always had the free will, what exactly are you even talking about?

are you so self-centered that you merely see the idea that somebody else is getting something as you losing something? Why were you purchasing downloadable content with the understanding that you are buying it with the idea that no one would ever own it besides paying the same price that you did? And why is it even relevant that a consumer in the future pays the same thing? I'm sorry but that's entitlement it has completely nothing to actually do with the end-user. it has everything to do with you trying to feel better about your stupid purchase at the end of the day why are you purchasing something with the intent that somebody else not have the same thing?

Should Electronic Arts also keep their games at full price to make you feel better about yourself to? That would be the best thing for them to do? Do you not understand this stupid logic could be used towards anything? Why don't you actually start purchasing products for their intended use as opposed to purchasing them with this idea that no one else should have it at a lesser price for free that's completely irrelevant to you.

That's like saying if I released a game that was $60 and let consumers know it would always stay $60 what value is that to you as a consumer knowing that somebody 10 years from now will pay full price? What is that even doing to you? Lol

Buddy worry about yourself as suppose to focusing on what other people are doing, if money's such an issue to you stop buying games day one at full price or DLC day 1.

No one forced you to do that you made that clear choice as a consumer to purchase at that price that's completely up to you. I read no where that the price would stay that way permanently as some added value to entitled early adopters lol

I'm seriously not understanding this issue that you have and knowing somebody else is paying the same thing that you did , how do you know? Do you get some sort of alert that tells you if someone else paid the same price and it makes you really gitty and excited? Lol

Earlier this year I purchased a brand new Lexus 200t.....

Do you think I care that's somewhere somebody owns the same car that I do cheaper because they purchased it used or even got a deep discount because it was left on the lot of Overstock? No that's completely irrelevant to me it has nothing to do with me whatsoever....

RosweeSon2809d ago

I agree with what your saying it's just the practice at hand sell DLC season passes for £20/30/40!!! Then 2-3 years later it's free sure the game came out a while ago but all this DLC launched on day 1? Nope it's been drip fed out now that no one else is buying it, yeah give it away, how about just keep it in the game in the first place or release it post content for free, just because the games been out 2-3 still no reason people who paid however long ago wouldn't be a little pissed.
Not like GTA4 is now free because it's been out a few years GTA5? Good luck. The fact it's been out for a few years is besides the point why charge for something originally to then waaay down the line sure but to then start giving it away? So generous of them, Utter Bull.

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

@Ros- "just because the games been out 2-3 still no reason people who paid however long ago wouldn't be a little pissed"

Soooo add that concept to every title that will release of all time buddy, do you not understand that products like games lower in price over time? I don't get why folks are upset because I don't buy things based on what OTHERS are paying in the future.

Thats not relevant to me bud. Not a child crying over seeing someone else get the same Ice Cream I got lol

" why charge for something originally to then waaay down the line "

Did you just think that for 3 years they had this plan to just give it away for free for a few days? This offer ends on the 19th....

That is like saying, why give away free games on PSN Plus or XBL.....OH " why charge for something originally to then waaay down the line "

Soooo no games should be full priced if they appear on PS Plus or XBL years later? Ubisoft is giving away some PC games.

https://www.vg247.com/2016/...

Soooo why would any company care about what you payed for in respect to giving something away for free?

You BOUGHT something of your OWN FREE WILL, you didn't need to, that is your choice...

Its THEIR choice to give it away for free in the future, JUST like its consumers choice to sell it later on at a different price or a companies choice to lower the price or give it for free.

NOTHING is just going to stay the same price FOREVER out of this stupid concept of childish entitlement.

So your solution is make it the same price for life, never give it away for free to make those that bought it feel smug about themselves?

What if that means them losing money and ultimately no longer even make said series? Does that help those consumers bud?

Consider this...

Who is dying because someone YEARS later got this for free? Could I not have GIVEN my own damn game to a friend for free? Did that hurt you when I did that?

Help me understand this bud, as it sounds like immature entitlement. Are you buying something to actually play it or to play an elementary school game of keep away?

Sorry but I don't see a reason to get upset by this, mind you...I own every BF game and I could care less. Consider how many games came to free from PSN, XBL, PC for either give aways or PS Plus or XBL etc, do you think I care? Am I crying over it? Journey was given for free....I already own it.....I don't care. I think its GREAT others got it for free as its a great game. You see me in tears that someone can have it for free? Many, many..MANY games are given for free that I've paid for, I don't cry bud. I CHOOSE to buy games, if they are free down the line, so be it... I want to game on MY terms, on MY time. Yes...I know FFXV and The Last Guardian etc will be cheaper and might even be free years from know....do you think I care? Buddy, I want it day 1, that is my choice. No on is forcing me, no one put a gun to my head etc.

Are you seriously this immature? To complain over something that is free is seriously the dumbest thing I've read on this site in years. Your seriously complaining that a company is giving away content for free......

Allsystemgamer2808d ago

@yeahokewhatever

Most DLC maps become free after a certain point. This is a good thing

Not our fault you bought them when they released. Stop being an entitled brat.

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

What reward? You wanted something there for you purchased it , you did not give to a charity.

Do not understand the concept of business? You never needed to purchase anything day 1 bud. When you earlier adapt something you do so by choice and freewill.

So in order to make you feel better on your purchase everyone should have to pay the same price that you paid for ever?

But what exactly does that even have to do with you in the first place? Will you die knowing that I got this for free? Lol

Self-centered much?

Edvin19842809d ago

@yeahokwatever

See I fail to see your logic about the DLC having no value? If people are willing to pay for it there is perceived value, and you are not forced to buy anything. Also, if you want to wait 3 years and get the DLC for free by all means go for it if that makes you happy. However, expecting them to give you anything for free now because down the road when the demand is low, and they are using the DLC of yesteryear game as essentially promotional tool.

LAWSON722809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

Yeah because playing the game in its prime with a huge community excited to play new bf4 dlc and having access to it for 3 years while the game was relevant is the same as getting them free when the game is far less of a big deal. Personally, I think you should be happy EA is adding new life to a 3 year old game so the $110 of content you purchased is still relevant. I play BF4 on Xbone and the DLC communities as of now are not exactly the largest probably better on PC, but still more players is always a great thing.

But.... yeah good old entitled whiners want to pretend they deserve something because DLC they bought is free after a whole 3 years.I am going to blow your mind, games actually get cheaper as they age so do yourself a favor and dont buy any game at launch if you feel that salty about paying more than everyone else. I tell you what if BF1 kicks off well and you enjoy the hell out of it just wait 3 years.

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

Lol agreed!!!

I mean with that attitude he might as well just play all games ten years after launch so he could get them for 3 or 4 bucks lol

Silly gameAr2809d ago

This is an older game man. It's not like it was released a week ago, and early buyers that bought all of the dlc are getting a raw deal.

CobraKai2808d ago

I was just talking about a general trend I see with DLC. Destiny seems to give more to players who buy the latest version. Sure it's a way to entice newcomers. Sure "the reward" is to play the game 3 years earlier. But something that says thanks for sticking with us since the beginning would be nice.

Edvin19842808d ago

@CobraKai your thanks for sticking with us was the countless hours Destiny has provided you over the past two years playing with your friends.

Yes!!! I'm excited!!! Will be on tonight.

TWB2809d ago

The best thing about this for me, is that I decided to buy BF4 on the PS4 since it was on sale and my PC isnt really fit for gaming atm (where I used to play BF4 with premium)

I had to only pay 5€ to keep playing the full experience on a different machine... couldnt have had a better timing.

Livecustoms2809d ago

:O EA doing something consumer friendly (even if the game is like 3 years old lol)

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

Well if you followed the battlefield series you know that they've been known to give out free content lots of times

this is one of the biggest , but if you check on PlayStation Network or Xbox Live you'll see that they've given away lots of free content for every Battlefield game periodically this isn't really anything new.

Livecustoms2809d ago

Yes, im aware that they gave the first 2 dlc's for free, right ?

pody2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

Damn, this is a great deal! As I understand, this means if I were to buy the game now I would also be able to download all the DLC for free?

I always wanted to get into BF4, and I have played all the others, but it received so much criticism when it came out so I never bothered with it. I did hear the game is very good now in it's current form. I also saw they had a free trail type of deal in Origin so i was going to try it out but never got around to it.

They even have a 50% discount code on the store at the moment so this just keeps getting better and better!

_-EDMIX-_2809d ago

Don't worry about the criticism it received early on, I agree that it was deserved based on the games very rough launch even as a hardcore Battlefield fan I believe that game very much should have been delayed. I played it 3 months after launch and it still had a few issues but I would say 4 to 5 months and it was ironed out pretty good, they continue to support it for a very long time and it's easily one of the best first person shooters this generation to purchase.

I'm not sure how much more of the game I'm going to play but to be honest I'm never really sure how much of a multiplayer game I never really going to play sometimes you feel like you would only put in 100 hours and 400 later it's one of your favorite multiplayer games so it's definitely something you have to play a bit to get used to and sometimes it catches on but it's something that's very difficult to know day one if you like long-term.

pody2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

Oh I definitely don't worry too much now. I know games can get better with time. It's obviously a shame that it has to be this way but it's something you just have to get used to. I did play the beta like so many others and wasn't completely blown away by it so that also helped along with my view on the game.

My favorite game in the series is Battlefield 2. I just loved its huge maps and the scope of the game, and unfortunately they went away from that in BF3 so the game really didn't do much for me. Hopefully it's a bit better in BF4 with 20+ maps in its arsenal. Should be something for everybody then and hopefully me. :)

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot789d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250788d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface787d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop788d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno788d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel788d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps788d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888788d ago (Edited 788d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33788d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888788d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH788d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

A recommendation I have is a work in progress preview title called Anacrusis. It's a lot of fun, and has a cool aesthetic.
