PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio Are Jumping the Gun, Aren’t They?

If true 4K gaming isn't even remotely close and even 4K movies are exceedingly uncommon, what's the point?

S2Killinit2813d ago

I think Sony has essentially killed scorpio by releasing the PS4 Pro. Think about it, the PS4 Pro has the benefit of being novel for 2 reasons:
1) it has a bigger power gap against existing consoles at time of its release (2-3 times more powerful than the others) AND
2) it has the novelty of introducing VR to console gamers.

When scorpio releases, it will only be (roughly) 33% more powerful than other existing consoles. (For those that arent good at math the PS4 Pro, by comparison is between 200%-300% more powerful than existing consoles)
Also by that time console gamers will already be fimiliar with VR.

So, yeah i think PS4Pro is going to really staggnate the sales of scorpio.

I see you're intent on spamming the same post over and over. Keep up the good fight!

S2Killinit2813d ago (Edited 2813d ago )

Just wanted to make sure the xbots with multiple accounts dont go and confuse the facts by posting on every PS4Pro article. But then you would know all about that wouldn't you.

And your welcome.

Haha, I was sitting here scratching my head and was thinking where have I seen this post. This guy copied and pasted his entire post from another article. That's truly sad. He's working over time trying to convince people that there's no reason to upgrade to Scorpio vs PS4 Pro. Just a quick question for S2Killinit. So you're saying that in a years time console gamers will be so familiar with VR that they will only associate it with PS4 and Pro and totally ignore the fact that other devices will do it much better? It's a no brainer that Microsoft's Scorpio console will perform better in all circumstances, but I'm not going to tell people that there's no reason to buy a PS4 Pro. People are going to get the console that suits their taste more, it's that simple. Why does it bother PS fans so much whether or not someone likes Xbox? It sure doesn't bother me whether someone likes PS. It does bother me however that guys like you spend so much time preaching this garbage in forums from day to day.

Dude even I am not even reading your stuff anymore and I essentially agree with you. Say your piece then move on. Regurgitating doesnt help anyone.

Aenea2812d ago

I know the Xbox fans downplaying and spreading FUD about the PS4 Pro is annoying as all heck, but what you're doing now is also moving into the annoying category. You're spamming...

DAEMONIFEAR2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

Do you mean scorpio will be 30-40% more powerful than PS4 pro or are you trying to suggest it will be weaker than PS4 pro and only slightly more powerful than X1 amd PS4?

Is that headline trying to be ironic?

Suggesting that the Scorpio - which won't be released until later next year - is 'jumping the gun' is a little hypocritical, considering the fact that we haven't even seen the console in action... Hell, we don't even really know it's specs or features!

And while I do plan on getting a PS4Pro, it's 'Faux-K' status means I won't upgrade my TV until the Scorpio's release - at which point 4K/UHD screens will be more affordable and 4K content more readily available... not to mention the Oculus/Vive VR headsets, which should be getting closer to their 2nd (hopefully wireless) iterations.

DragonDDark2812d ago

Umm... they are doing the same thing..? A year later won't change anything..

poppinslops2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

The same thing?
Not exactly... for one, Microsoft (and AMD) are confident that they'll be able to deliver a true 4K experience, and the extra time means they should be able to sell it for the same price as a PS4P.

Not only that, but launching a year later will lessen any associated costs - HDR/4KTV, VR headset, camera, motion controllers, etc - plus it will almost certainly launch with a larger roster of enhanced games, courtesy of the 3rd-party devs that are already working on PS4Pro versions... then there's the various streaming services (Netflix, Youtube and the like), who are starting to offer 4K content - which should be closer to becoming 'standard' by Scorpio's launch.

Last, but not least, MS aren't known for delaying their AAA holiday linup (something you can almost bet on with Sony), so the Scorpio will almost certainly launch with titles like Forza Motorsport 7, Crackdown, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and whatever MS announce at their 2017 conferences - not to mention the various multiplats like Mass Effect and the next Red Dead, which will look even better than their PS4P counterparts.

DragonDDark2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

I meant that you will stiIl have to pay for an HDR 4KTV(a good one for button latency). You'll still have to pay extra money for the console (It will be more expensive than the Pro too).
All the other arguments you brought up will cost more money... so..

Yeah.. Same thing.

Everything else you said is subjective. Games that is. Which the PS4 has. (Exclusives that you can't get anywhere else.)

poppinslops2812d ago

Wait... so that's your point?

NEWSFLASH N4G!
Stuff costs money!!!

And yes - the Scorpio WILL cost the same as a PS4P... extra year aside, it's being marketed as a device for the hardcore gamers - who tend to buy a lot of games (which is where the real $$$ is made) - and MS have already proven their willingness to sell their hardware at a loss.

omegaheat2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

Well Phil did say that they could have released an upgraded console this year, but it wouldn't have truly been ready for 4K. The wait may well pay off for Microsoft. My television went down after a bad storm. All of this 4K talk has gotten me curious, and now I'm wondering if I should invest in a 4K set instead of cheaping out on a 1080P set. The 1080P sets are going dirt cheap right now, and the 4K sets aren't going for much higher, but I guess that depends on the the features of the television. So my question is, if I get a 4K television, should I only look for specs like 4K, HDR and refresh rate etc.? I want to be ready for the Scorpio before it launches, and maybe Xbox One S. Since I don't have a tv at the moment, it shouldn't be an unnecessary investment to purchase a better television.

poppinslops2812d ago

Sounds like you know what to look for... a 4K/HDR set with a high refresh-rate will be more expensive, but if gaming is your jam, then I say go for it!

Alternatively, you could always get a regular HD screen to tie you over and give yourself some time to save up for a cutting-edge 4K model... personally, I'm going to wait for next year's Christmas sales - here's hoping the ol' LCD can see me through to then!

Aenea2812d ago

I highly doubt that MS can deliver on native 4k on ALL GAMES.

They even said games wouldn't all be in native 4k. Also doubt AMD said they can deliver that with 6Tflops.....

Even the Scorpio will be 'faux-k' as you seem to like calling it. The consoles coming a few years from now, say 2019/2020 might actually be real true 4k machines, but not until then. When PC GPU cards which can do 4k@60fps on Ultra high settings will be cheap as dirt, then we will see consoles do the same thing...

poppinslops2812d ago

They said it'd be up to devs as to whether or not to push for 4K, but I feel like that's just Microsoft's way of accounting for indies and lazy Capcom/Konami ports... looking at the PS4P games that have managed native 4K (RotTR & TLoU) and considering Scorpio's increased power, I'm thinking the only current XO title that might not qualify would be Quantum Break, with it's unique '720p' resolution.

Bearing in mind that new games will still have to run on the XO, I don't see any reason why the Scorpio wouldn't reach that target... as to your PC comparison, I say comparing purpose-built console hardware to a high-end PC is all but pointless - compare it to the PS4P, which is ALMOST reaching 4K on new games.

Microsoft have been hyping Scorpio's 4K capabilities since it was announced - I fully expect them to deliver, not just on 1st party games, but also on the major 3rd party games as well... sure, that could change if/when devs decide to leave the XO behind, but I doubt that'll happen anytime soon - not until there are at least 10million Scorpio's sold, probably not until the announcent of 'Project Aquarius'.

M-M2812d ago

I agree(with the article title anyway). I think it mostly has to do with the fact that they're trying to be the first ones into the market with "affordable 4K". Kind of in the same sense how the PS3 was an affordable Blu-ray player back in the day while most were expensive.

The only ones I see jumping the gun is these articles and people on the Internet.
