Plot twists are always welcome. I really like compelling storylines and climactic endings :D

The coalition seems to be hitting all the right notes. You should watch this behind the scenes video. There is a lot of new footage. It's amazing and they got Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones Composer) to work on the music.

Gears 4 has so many great things going for it

GameNameFame2823d ago

Lets be honest. It is EPIC who made Gears series so great.

It is always the team behind the game that matters. Last time Epic handed the project to People Can Fly, you know how game turned out.

Just look at Halo made by Bungie and Halo made by 343. Objectively speaking, just looking at Metascore, you have plummet in game quality.

Already looking at game beta and people's feedback of it. It has not many things going for it.

4Sh0w2823d ago

I hope its great, but lets be honest dev's always think their storylines (whole game) is great. Don't want to be a downer but I much prefer dev's shut up these days, just show us great gameplay trailers, let folks decide, make it available for reviews a week early, and then launch the damm game.

That said so far Gears 4 looks amazing.

Obscure_Observer2823d ago

That´s AMAZING!

Thank you christocolus!

Cheers!

Plot twists can be really cool when done well....revealing your game or movie has a plot twist 2 months before it releases is not "done well" for me though. I saw a trailer for a horror flick that did the same thing today talking about the movie having a "huge plot twist". For me, if I'm expecting some kind of turn, it doesn't matter how well it's done, it is always much less impactful than if I'm going in completely cold. I wish creators would stop oversharing w/ their games. Gears looks really cool, but I think they've been showing too many things that could've been much cooler as full surprises...the robots would've been a cool thing to hold back, this idea of a big plot twist would've been smart to hold back, Marcus Fenix in the game would've been huge to hold back. I mean people are going to buy a game like Gears regardless of those nuggets, so they aren't really doing themselves or anyone else any favors. I doubt that there were fence sitters on the new Gears of War who got pushed over the edge by the idea of a plot twist, so why advertise it? In the internet age, your game is already going to be spoiled nearly as soon as it goes gold so we already have to dodge the bombs from others w/o having to ignore the words & footage from the devs themselves...

TheCommentator2823d ago

That's like saying that The Force Awakens was a bad movie because we knew there were two more parts announced before the first one released. We knew there would be plot twists and cliffhangers there, but in your instance I understand you perfectly, it's because it's a Microsoft product.

jb2272822d ago

@thecommentator

That is a pretty horrible analogy. Not every film that has a sequel has a plot twist or even a cliffhanger...I never said anything about cliffhangers by the way so I'm not sure where that comes from. In fact, your analogy actually strengthens my original argument...there was a big event towards the end of TFA that many people weren't told to expect in advance, which made it work much better for those who were unaware. Unexpected events & full plot twists simply work better when you are unaware of their upcoming presence. Common sense that is.

I honestly don't see how any sane person who enjoys games, books or films would actively want to be spoiled beforehand in a steady trickle of plot point after plot point. I've always gotten more enjoyment from everything by going in cold. I guess 9 people just love spoilers?

It has nothing to do w/ MS, I'd say the exact same thing about Uncharted 4, a Sony game I really enjoyed but the marketing just revealed too much. Same here, Gears still looks great, but I guarantee a similar situation plays out for many gamers, trailers & marketing just reveal too much these days across the board. Has nothing to do w/ fanboy bias, so maybe check your own at the door & actually try to "comprehend what you read"

In your instance of defending anything that could ever be considered anything other than glowing praise for everything MS in existence, I understand why you have no real opinion on the matter but are quick to dismiss anyone else's....it's because it's a Microsoft product.

Nothing you said was honest. Typical fanboy garbage you spew....

ccgr2823d ago

Curious how it will run on my AMD card...

Alexious2823d ago

I think it's just CPU based PhysX, not GPU based. So you shouldn't have any troubles!

badz1492823d ago (Edited 2823d ago )

PhysX is owned by nVidia for exclusive implementation on their GPUs only just like their propriety Hairworks. AMD might have similar solutions for them but if a title uses these properties specifically, then AMD cards will not have them. "CPU based" LOL dude, this is not your normal physics, it's PhysX!

This is kinda surprising though. With native DX12 support and AMD based system in the Xbone, going anything nVidia is kinda weird. Will be annoying seeing "The Way It's Meant to be Played" shown everytime we launch the game on PC later. Sigh...

Edit:

Of course the CPU can also run PhysX but usually not to a very good effect like the GPU does. So you think Coalition will go half-assedly with this? And you think nVidia wouldn't want to prioritise their GPU for this too? Especially now that their market share is down and their GPU shipment was down like 20% last quarter?

Alexious2823d ago

@badz149: PhysX has been running on CPUs for a very long time. Educate yourself

2823d ago
Kleptic2823d ago

Physx has been morphed into a middleware suite for years...it's not a gpu-only option for specific Nvidia cards like it used to be...it's more like competitor to something like Havoc that has various implementation options outside of the closed hardware option that it used to be...

but, with that said, what's being left out: It's no more advanced than any other option anymore. Physics sim is hell on cpu's, even powerful desktop versions (ironically, this was one area where the PS3's Cell processor was actually way ahead of it's time, it just sucked at everything else, and some of the original physx code came from the PS3's drivers between it's RSX and cell), only plumbed in reverse). The advantage physx had was offloading that to gpu's that when coded right, were far superior at specific types of physics calc.

It never took off, though. It was too different from the baseline physics simulation that 'everything else' had to use, so was rarely taken full advantage of. It's now more of a certain type of physics engine, but in no way drastically superior to alternatives.

KTF262823d ago

@badz149
"CPU can also run PhysX but usually not to a very good effect like the GPU does"
CPU PhysX is similar to any modern Physics engine in the world
GPU PhysX provides more but you know the cost
PhysX is the default physics engine in UE3 and UE4 and more likely it's the main reason Gears or War 4 uses it
Even Bioshock infinite uses PhysX despite the partnership with AMD because it's the default physics engine and they don't have to pay for separated physics engine when the default do the job

RedDeadLB2823d ago

Should be fine since it's DX12 only.

Lon3wolf2823d ago

As Alexious says, it will be the software version, that is CPU dependent rather than GPU so it isn't running on the card.

Walker2823d ago

" something of a twist near the campaign's end."

Marcus fenix is not JD's father so :)

So it looks like they have abandoned unreal for future iterations of the game and are sticking with ego. So that means no decent VR support on PC and none on console seeing as the ego can't handle it properly. I think I'm done with this franchise it's turned into fifa with a hefty price tag and no innovation from one year to the next. Time for someone else to have a go at this licence
