The Surge, the next ARPG by the makers of Lords of the Fallen, will run at native 1080P on PlayStation 4 and 900P on Xbox One. Longevity will also be similar to LotF.

I do love the hypocrisy in turning around and saying now power difference suddenly matter in Scorpio. Based on how it turned out, difference is going to be in resolution between Scorpio vs Neo. All devs have different challenges in the development process and 900p was probably just easier with the hardware constraints, it's no surprise both companies are releasing more powerful SKUs in the near future

The fact is the Xbox one is weaker than ps4 so if the devs wish to push the ps4 to the limit than Xbox version will suffer. Some devs may chose to compromise the ps4 version so it's consistent with xbox version.

Gears of war 4 which is easily the best looking game on the system and even rivals UC4 is 1080p/60 on xb1

Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mad Max, Destiny, The Division, Forza horizon 2/3, Forza 5/6, Diablo 3, GTA5, Halo 5, Halo MCC, Wolfenstein, Sniper Elite, Zombie Army Trilogy Gears of War Ultimate, ect.. all are 1080p and there are many more

It is possible but not all devs can pull it off unfortunately.

But hey it is what it is. Its obviously not super easy to pull off with xb1 which is why not all AAA games are native 1080p.

I am looking forward to picking up the xbox scorpio next year which will run all these games better and we can stop hearing about this crap.

Anyhow 900p or 1080p the graphics are the same and once output to ur tv and upscaled the difference in real life is so miniscule its not a big deal at all really too close to care.

Plus xb1s now has 4k upscaling so that helps too if u have a 4k tv

Xbox scorpio is a beast and to build a rig capable of the same level of optimized gaming would cost a small fortune so no thanks.

Plus on PC all ur games are seperated. No unified achiement system and cant play with friends on xbox so again no thanks!

Yes Gears 4 runs at 1080p... and the cuts and sacrifices they have to employ to get it to run at 1080p and 60fps is essentially using last gen gears models from the XBO remaster and recycling them in Gears 4 multi-player with new Skins... Halo 5 had to use adaptive resolutions and scaled back graphic effects and AA to achieve 60fps...

Please STOP! EVERYTHING on XBO is weak in comparison to the PS4 exclusives to exclusive, multiplats to multiplats it's just a weak machine... even with HDR... lol. Just shut up and play your games and continue saving up for Scorpio so you can finally get a machine that can run games satisfactorily.

And halo 5 has improved massively in the visuals department compared to launch. It doesnt look like it scales back res much at all anymore and detail is improved.

Not necessarily. There is a power difference between the XB1 and the PS4. Just like there will probably be one with the NEO and Scorpio.

Its natural. The xbox one has hardware limitations, which means the developer has to put in more work to achieve the same results.

They both have hardware limitations. It's just Xbox1 currently has the limitation that matters most at the moment.

And if the developer puts in the same amount of extra work the PS4 will pull ahead again in other areas like frame rate or effects. The stronger hardware will always be able to do more. It is like a faster more powerful car will always be able to stay ahead of the slower one. You may be able to put a good driver in the slower car and a poor driver in the faster car and get them even but if you also put a good driver in the fast car it will be ahead again.

They aren't using DX12 for one. They are using the old DX11. It'll probably run at 4K on the Scorpio, so it's not going to matter all that much. It comes out in 2017.

Developers have just started using DX12 in games, so we don't know how well it will work on XB1 games yet, cause there really haven't been any that used DX12 from the beginning. The current games that did get DX12 support was upgraded with a patch and we already know that only makes minor improvements when you do it that way. DX12 won't matter much anyways after the Scorpio is released. There will be 4K/ 30 & 60fps games after that.

Probably. Facts are facts. The fact is the xbone has a weaker GPU. No API will upgrade the hardware magically to match the stronger one. If Scorpio is more powerful then it is, and no amount of Neo "secret sauce" will be able to close the gap there either. The xbone is weak now, and the Neo will be the weak one next year.

The Fallen was a bit hit and miss for me so I will definitely be interested in seeing more for this game but definitely not a day one sentiment yet. I also read in a different interview that they do have ranged combat coming to the game but they aren't ready to show it. Hopefully it adds a layer of depth to the combat. As it is, this feels a bit basic in terms of the combat with what I have seen.

Sometimes when Sony/devs pushes and gets that 1080p resolution its always not a great idea. Take Just Cause 3 for example on PS4. 1080p 30fps and the frame rate drops are the worst I've ever seen on any console. If they just would have went 900p instead, maybe, just maybe, it would have let the game run at a steadier frame rate.

I'm sure this game won't have many problems. But then again, a lot of action RPG's like this sometimes has hickups. But the games are so good in most other areas. Dropped frame rates can be ignored (Dark Souls on Xbox 360, even on B.C. for X1, the game was so good I didn't care) but in the case of Just Cause 3...........no cool. Broken. Not even playable.

No it wouldn't because just cause 3 is also on Xbox one and the Xbox one version runs at 900p.

And the biggest bottleneck for that game with all the destruction and physics interactions is CPU. The Xbox one has the same CPU as the ps4, but clocked at a higher speed so if the Xbox one version with the slightly faster CPU and 900p resolution has the same awful framerate, lowering the ps4 version to 900p would do nothing as resolution is GPU bound.

The power difference between the 2 console's gpu's is significant enough that generally resolution can be higher on ps4 without taking any hit to performance and that's why you see so many multiplatform games running a higher resolution on the ps4. It's just an overall more powerful machine.

I know it is what sells but one of the things I appreciated from a art style perspective of games like Sunset Overdrive, Transistor or No Man's Sky was that they created an aesthetic that wasn't dude-bros in space. The same dark, depressing dystopian futures with a lot of blood and of course protagonists with very manly/raspy voices.
