Dash Bomber writes, "Metal Gear Solid V released last year to thunderous applause. It was the anxiously awaited sequel to the movie Metal Gear Solid 4 which boasted an incredible amount of cinematics. Because of this fact, I did not share the same enthusiasm as my fellow gamers did. But, Metal Gear Solid V completely changed my opinion on this matter. The Phantom Pain deserves every accolade it received and aside from the controversial fan service (and overly long intro) it is a masterpiece."
Whether it's showcasing damage realistically or simulating fractures and conditions, these games are worth checking out.
The Metal Gear series has sold 60.2 million copies, as of September 2023.
...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is another rollercoaster of a game in the Metal Gear Solid series. Here's what to expect and why you need to experience it.
Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.
The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.
It was unfinished. Like, that right there is enough to disqualify it as being a "masterpiece" without even getting into the total betrayal it was story and story presentation wise to the MGS series as a whole.
Nope.
Unfinished fetch-quest with missing features and unfinished story is a masterpiece now ?
Good stealth game ? Perhaps.
Good overall MGS game with interesting narrative ? Nope.
Best intro ever, Worst ending ever.
Most confused MGS game out of the bunch, fun as hell but certainly isn't up there with any of the previous games plot or characters. Not a masterpiece sadly. MGS1, 3 and PW are.
Masterpiece? I strongly disagree. I wouldn't even call it a good game. 6/10 I'd say. It has some great moments, and the core mechanics are impeccable, but overall it felt soulless and bland. MGS 1-4 are some of my favourite games of all time, but TPP is just "some game."
And for anyone who pulls the ridiculous "you just have nostalgia goggles on" card, I played Peace Walker for the first time only a FEW MONTHS before I played TPP, and I enjoyed it considerably more. I also played Ground Zeros only ONE WEEK before playing TPP, and enjoyed it considerably more. (The level design in GZ was far beyond TPP, as was the tense story moments) But sure. I'm just "addled with nostalgia." *eye roll*
Most perfect game I've ever played! Gameplay is a 10/10
