Brandon Salcedo Writes:
"If it looks like Zelda and it plays like Zelda, it's probably Zelda, right? Hudson Soft's 1989 Turbo Grafx action-adventure, Neutopia, has all the makings of Link's first quest and even shamelessly copies elements from it. Instead of the brave elf boy, Link, we have the valiant mysterious hero, Jazeta, who instead of finding the nine pieces of the Triforce, must track down the eight medallions, and free a powerful princess and her country from the clutches of the evil wizard, Dirth. Played from an overhead perspective, with the ability to slash your sword, or block with your shield in four directions, you're going to notice the uncanny similarities right away. But you're not going to care. Neutopia copies Zelda's formula, but it copies it very well. It is obvious the developers have deep respect for Nintendo's adventure series and they've done a great job at recapturing its spirit and its tight gameplay, right down to its push-the-block puzzle design. But it offers enough ideas to hold its own, and it's just solid fun."
GS: This week on his series on gaming companies, DDJ looks at Hudson Soft, one of Nintendo's earliest partners and among the only companies outside Nintendo to develop a Pokemon or Mario game.
Gotta love Hudson. My friends and I STILL play 10-player (yes, 10 player) Bomberman on my SEGA Saturn. Those games are so fun.
Why wasn't bloody roar on that list. It was a fun fighter. I hope they add br3 and br4 a s a ps2 classic.
BLOODY ROAR , I Freaking love this game from Hudson and i wish if there's a Fifth one for the franchise .. just imagine how the multiplayer looks like when you play it with Unlimited Combos *o* !
Siliconera:
In Japan, PlayStation Network has a sizable library of downloadable TurboGrafx-16 games. Classics including Bonk, Alien Crush, and soon Falcom’s Ys series are available to play on a PSP or PlayStation 3.
These games are finally heading Westward, thanks to a leak from USK. Germany’s video game rating board has the following games in their database:
OMG! BC Kid, AKA Bonk's Adventure!
Fantastic! Hopefully this'll make up for the insult and artistic style for the recently developed one.
Legendary Axe, Bonks Adventure, Dracula X, Blazing Lazers, Bloody Wolf, Alien Crush, Dragon Spirit, Splatterhouse, Military Madness, Neutopia, Dungeon Explorer, Victory Run, Time Cruise, Final Lap Twin, Soldier Blade, Side Arms... The list goes on and on...
The TurboGrafx-16 is easily one of the most underrated consoles ever created. Despite never gaining the recognition that systems by Nintendo or Sega did, it still managed to craft an identity all its own with a solid collection of titles worthy of any gamer's time. These are the top 5 TurboGrafx-16 games to download on the Wii Virtual Console.
